Plugged in, Not charging
 

So my girlfriend has been complaining to me that her laptop when plugged in and should be charging says that it is plugged in(not charging) when she scrolls over the battery icon. Now if she re-seats the batter it will fix the problem. However she doesn't feel it necessary to have to do that everytime this problem happens, and it has happened more than once.


It just recently started happening when she got a new battery wasn't holding much of a charge anymore. under or around 1 hour.

anyways she got the new battery and had this problem occur the next day. I'm pretty decent with computer so to rule out it being the battery we put the old one in and had the same problem occur again. The problem never occurred before the new battery.


Anyways heres the computer specs.

Vista home premium 32 bit
Hp pavilion dv2500 notebook PC

all the other specs shouldn't really be needed to fix the problem I think.

Anyways if anyone knows anything about this problem that'd be awesome to help me help her.


Also just thought of it checked the drivers on HPs page and there are none for the battery.

the contacts got misaligned or misshapen somehow, or the newer battery is not built in proper tolerance spec and moved the contacts just enough.

Was the batter you bought actually an HP battery?

It was just a replacement to the old battery, ordered off the HP site for the make and model of the PC. How would the misaligned contacts become aligned again after it being reseated?

I had the same issue with my Dell laptop. The culprit here was the power supply. There had been too much bending and yanking on the cable, courtesy of my kids.

Like freeload said, it's probably the power supply. Check the wire for tears or nicks.

Thank you Murphy! I was trying to be helpful by posting here, but the next day my laptop didn't want to be charged (again)... swapped the power supply (again) and everything was good (again).

Who to blame? My kids (again) ....luckily I buy the replacements from DealExtreme for $12.44 incl. shipping so it's not going to ruin me ;)

that yanking on the cable can damage the part of the laptop that the power plug goes into... mine stopped charging and i had to keep wiggling the plug until it refused to charge all together, a new plug failed to do the trick.
