Client updates own website
Is anyone familiar on how a client would be able to update their own website regularly. For instance, I have a client who would like me to design a website for them but they would need to change prices daily. Is there portal or a way for them to do this themselves without changing important code and messing with the rest of the site.
Thanks. |
I would think the onus would be on you, the application / web developer, to provide a portal (with a login) to let them modify whatever values they'd like. This sounds like a fairly embedded application, and if it's simply prices, it could be as simple as giving them a directory to drop their 'prices file', from which you dynamically update the pages.
There are a number of customizable CMS out there, and things like WordPress are commonly used to allow 'customers' to modify their own pages. Depending on how much control they need, this may or may not be enough. |
It all depends...are those prices driving actual ecommerce, or are they just listings? The best way is to provide a portal and login, probably using (at least) php and mysql to dynamically adjust whatever input you are allowing them to.
This is a pretty basic question for someone with clients to have, honestly, are you sure you aren't out of your league? Better to say that's not something you can do than botch it and both be unhappy. |
I let one of my clients have a CMS and they still find it daunting to make even simple edits.
good luck! |
