Monitor Problem
I have only recently tried to fix a problem with my mnintor. Its a 19" viewsonic. The brightness is really really dark even if I turn brightness and contrast to 100 percent. Then I went to my prefrences and found that under the overlay tag that that my brightness is at something like -100%!!!! I cant change it because its locked. I dont know how to fix this. Please help me.

Assuming you're in some version of windows, check your settings under control panel - display - settings (tab)-advanced (button) - monitor (tab). There may be something you can muck around with there.
|
tried that. didnt work.... Is there a program that i can muck around with overlay?
|
Sounds like the moniter has crapped out..... I've never seen any brightness or contrast settings in windows.... as far as I know the brightness and contrast are always adjusted with the controls on the moniter...
|
overlay tab is only used for DVD playback etc not for regular windows, if theres no default button, uninstalling and reinstalling will set it to the default, but i doubt itl fix your monitors problem
if the monitor is getting on in age , it may simply be dying, there is an internal setting you can turn up as the monitors life shortens, however its temporary (how long depends on how bad) and the insides of monitors are *extremely* dangerous, so unless you are familiar with dealing with 24Kv type power, i'd leave it be, otherwise on the HT transformer theres usually two settings, top is focus and lower is HT level, thats the one you want. it'll brighten up the display. if you dont know what i am talking about, leave it be :) and if you do play with it mae sure its unplugged and discharge the anode cap at least twice with 5 minutes in between. is it dark on the bios or boot screens? if it is, its not windows doing it. |
No its just in windows games and stuff.
|
My brother's laptop does that every once in a while because of a power saving feature. You might want to check your settings, I'm sure that a desktop could do the same thing.

Depending on what kind of videocard you have (hint, hint) you can adjust the video card's gamma to compensate for the monitor's darkness. Also, contrast doesn't neccesarily make things brighter or darker. All it does in increase the difference between the lightest shade and the darkest shade. I would leave that slider in the middle. If your monitor has gamma adjustment, I would recommend pumping that up too.
For ATI cards, right-click on the desktop and select Properties, click Settings tab, Advanced button, Color tab, and adjust the Desktop Brightness slider. Game gamma also needs to be adjusted separately. Don't overdo that setting. |
Your viewsonic should have come with a cd called "Viewsonic Wizard". The program is a bit time consuming, but there are a lot of adjustments available. The disk also comes with a paint chip to compare with your finished settings to verify color after all the calibration. If you can't find the cd in your desk, try their website. It's a bit slow getting stuff from them though.

Also, you monitor's OSD (On screen display) could have some locked functions. You may need to reset it and then adjust. Just a thought
|
yes yes theres the ticket.... so how do I reset it?
|
I've got a ViewSonic A90. Very infrequently it goes a shade of yellow then goes away. There are quite a number of OSD controls - start tweaking and reset them to Default if nothing works.
Sorry I don't have anything specific to tell you. |
My monitor I have is really dark....I cheat it by using a program called Adobe Gamma Loader that I know comes with Adobe Photoshop..it might even come with acrobat....not 100% sure on that though
