Need some help with MS Server 2003

I have recently delved into the world of VPS and am doing my best to navigate ms server 2003....I have managed to figure out quite a few things, but this one Im at a loss.

I have no sound.....I have gone into services and started windows audio but when I try to go into the volume controls I keep getting a
"windows cannot find C:\WINDOWS\system32\sndvol32.exe" error

if I look for it via explorer its there and I dont know what else today

does anyone have an answer and can explain in a way that a non server pro could understand? Im not having much luck with google

Have you installed motherboard drivers? Or any other audio drivers?

No, as I said Im new to this entire server thing (its a VPS account if that changes anything) everything I googled said starting the service should have worked, this is the first I've heard about drivers?

To me it looks like the install didn't detect sound hardware, hence the missing drivers and audio controls.

PS: I take it that VPS is some Virtual machine of some sort.

If it's a managed server contact the provider. Why would you need sound on a VPS? You aren't going to be playing any sounds on the local machine. It won't even have speakers connected to it in the datacenter.

why would I need sound? because when I RTD to it to work on things, whether from my laptop at home, or my work computer (because it gets past the company firewall and I can get to websites that I cant get to anymore) I'd like to have sounds

Do you have access to the configuration of your virtual server? It's possible that you can install it if you have that kind of access.

Otherwise, you'll need to contact the provider of your virtual server to see if they have enabled the audio card in the configuration.

Do you know what virtualization software they are using?

EDIT: Keep in mind that if the host machine (the physical server) doesn't have an audio card then you may not be able to have one on the virtual server.

Looks like there may be another part to this:

Enabling Audio Mapping for Remote Desktop/Terminal Services
