Need help troubleshooting new computer build! - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

Hey guys, first time builder here...

Things went well at first; everything went perfectly and I was able to boot up on the first try, got my BIOS checked, then loaded the operating system, no problem.

So I turned everything off, moved my desktop to a new room where it will be longterm, replugged in the power...and now nothing happens! I tried a different socket in the room, even went back to the original place, but now nothing turns on. I don't even see the green power light on the motherboard..argggh I'm so frustrated. Would really appreciate some troubleshooting help please..

double check your connections.

plug and replug all plugs, the power supply should turn on and the fan spin, there may be an LED somewhere on the PSU.

check all cards and memory modules, reseat them.

What power supply are you using? What specific brand and wattage?

Check the cables, especially the cables that connect the case power switch to the motherboard.

Also, check the switch on the back of the actual power supply to make sure it's not turned off; it's easy to hit when moving the PC sometimes.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Unfortunately, I'm trapped at work right now..but will note these options to try out.

My PSU is a seasonic SS 650HT (650W). For some reason, my board has rather high recommended power requirements at 600W (maybe due to the IGP?). But yeah, I don't even have a video card plugged in right now. The power supply switch is the big toggle on the back of the case with the on and off right? Checked that several times, unless there's anything internal that needs to be toggled..

Here's a long shot, but could it be the power cable itself that connects from the wall socket to the PSU? My OEM psu did not come with a cable so I had to repurpose an old one, which I cannot vouch for it's reliability or quality. Though it did boot the first time..

Number one first thing you should do is unplug the power cable from the wall, and unplug it from the PSU BOTH. Do not unplug only one side. Then, push the power button on the case to discharge any residual energy. Now, plug power cable back in to wall and PSU and see if that will do the trick.

If that doesn't work, check the PSU switch - it's black, the back of the PSU (some don't have them).

Lastly, like Cynth said, unplug EVERYTHING in the computer and plug back in.

Yes and try another power cable if you have one.

If I had to guess, your main power connector to your motherboard has wiggled loose - it probably wasn't seated right in the first place, and moving the computer jostled it out.

Thanks guys, problem solved. A couple have guessed it...loose power connection to the mobo; it felt like it was seated but I didn't get the locking click. I feel rather silly now /embarassed for a nub mistake.

Here's hoping there'll be no more hiccups!
