Anyone seen any good deals on a PC?

Ugh, I'm getting really frustrated lately with my current setup. Normally I'd just build a new one but I don't have the patience right now to do all the research. Anyone seen any prefab rigs that are a good deal lately? It's for gaming, would need to be for under $600. At least 2gb of ram, preferably 4. Obviously I know they they tend to be location specific, so it'd have to be online or at a widespread store like fry's electronics (I live in az if it matters)

Thanks

though the "Intel Integrated Graphics " worries me. Usually that's a bad sign for video, ya?

yes. Integrated graphics sucks, especially if you're planning on any games better than Solitaire.

It's too bad you can't up your budget by $200 - you'd have a lot more options if you could.

Systemax SG 1150 Gaming Desktop Computer - Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200, genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1, MSI G31M, 4GB, 320GB, DVDRW, 9500GT, Flash Card Reader, GB LAN, 500Watts 981003 at TigerDirect.com

There's one that fits your requirements. The vidcard isn't the greatest thing on the planet, but it's a hell of a lot better than integrated graphics.

If you get that, use a hotmail email address when you're filling out the forms. Tiger Direct is pretty good, but they spam the hell out of you with daily advertisements for everything under the sun.

Newegg.com - Gaming, $500 - $750, Desktop PCs, Desktop PCs, PCs & Laptops

Newegg has a few too. Note that they're not exactly household names ;) If you have a monitor / keyboard / mouse already you might consider building your own. It isn't very hard at all, and you can generally get much better stuff for the same price, since you're not paying someone to assemble it for you.

I decided to scrounge my old system and upgrade rather than go new. Suggestions on specifics are still welcome. I plan on getting a GF 8800GT video card, Intel E8400 (3GHz), and a Gigabyte G31M-Es2L motherboard, with at least 2 gigs of ram. Should be under 400. The motherboard I am least certain about.

What OS would you be running ? Many dekstop OSes are limited to 3 Gb Ram so spending $ on 4 Gb could be .......

I wouldnt buy a computer from Fry's in any case. YOu never know what you are getting in a system. Computer systems are bought and returned all the time. The only items i buy at Fry's are cables, media products - (dvd - cd's).

Jinn is right on with Newegg. Newegg is probably the best place on the 'net for anything and everything. I personally buy just about everything from newegg. They are in LA county (as am I) so i usually get their stuff within a day or two. the have great service and really low prices. Microbarn isnt bad either. Just dont buy anything at Fry's that can be returned.

Zeraph 12-09-2008 10:16 AM

Ordered 500 bucks (400 after rebates) of stuff off newegg. Should be here in a few days. Should be able to run just about everything on max after upgrade. Can't wait!

Newegg is the best computer/electronic site out there. Hands down.
