Tablet advice

My child, the budding artist, has asked for a tablet for Christmas and I don't really know anything about them. She has asked for this one

Micro Center - Bamboo Fun Medium - Black

Is this one any good (for the price range its in) or could I do better for 200 bucks?

She is 15 if that makes any kind of difference

Last Christmas I was in similar situation, so I asked a guy in the next office who is a graphical designer about low end tablets. His response was "You get what you pay for but Wacom does make professional products as well and their low end products benefit from that. Ie drivers and durability.

Shani, you might also check bensbargains.net. I see tablets come up there with good prices from time to time. Not sure about quality, but I'm sure that there are other sources for product reviews.

I like my tablet PC. It doesn't have quite the resolution or as great of touch sensitiveness, but you can draw right on the screen.

Look for a Gateway m275 on eBay.

I will second the Wacom tablets. I had good success with even their cheaper models when using them a few years back.

I spoke to our graphic designer on this today, and he said fistly go with Wacom, and secondly get the bggest size you can afford, not the most featured you can afford.

I think so.

If you consider that most tech has a lifetime of 2-4 years, she could still be using it in her final year of school.

If she seriously wants to get into graphics then getting the most rugged and flexible kit is more important than getting one that comes with a flashy software package or loads of function buttons and pretty lights.

I hadn't looked at the prticular product you mentioned, I just spoke to the designer about tablets in general.

Did you find one in the black friday sales?

I bet the bamboo would be great. I love my intuos which is also wacom. if the kid really gets into art they can get a better/bigger tablet later.

but holy frejolies that thing is expensive !! I wouldn't go there for a 15 year old, it'll have coke spilled on it in a heartbeat !

yep we've decided to go with the medium Bamboo fun, maybe it will save me money in sketch books, the child fills them up faster than anyone I've ever seen. Her big thing right now is drawing anime.. She's already drawn me in anime and for Dave's birthday she's working on a sketch of him as a kilt wearing anime character lol
