ubuntu setup.. fail! / ubuntu parental controls?

I'm usually good at these things, I've installed ubuntu on a few machines a good while ago but I haven't done so recently and have been stuck on the whole wireless card driver thing at the moment with this computer. I did this with easy before but don't know what i did.

the current computer i'm working on has the latest version of ubuntu installed and a d-link air DWL-650 802.11b wireless PC card adapter.

I did some googling and found some misc stuff but I didn't have much luck.

Can anyone give me some advice / reminder on how to do this quick and easy?

also, does anyone have any experience using parental controls on ubuntu? I'm curious as to if anyone has any experience with any...

i threw in another wificard to this laptop and it connected right away... without blinking an eye.... but that card i put in belongs to another computer so i can't stick to the switch... not sure why this DWL-650 card isn't working that easy :-(

For parental controls, look into dansgaurdian.

i found this thing of drivers... cant figure out how to install it yet lmao, it said to extract into this one folder before extraction but it said permission denied... my usual wireless card which is reconized and picks up networks does not connect to networks with this laptop. so i'm back to trying to get the original card to work with this... completely lost and since i wiped windows off of this fellows computer i gotta finish it soon

ndiswrapper is what you need.

Permissions issues can be solved either with sudo or chmod, depending on what you're trying to do.

Don't know any software for parental control, but proper access policies will go a long way. You can also set something up in iptables, to filter out websites you don't want the wee ones on.

I'd recommend upgrading to technology produced within the decade. 802.11g cards are cheap, and n is finalized now.

There are parental controls in Linux? I was a free-range kid and I liked it that way.

Hopefully someone will mention using a Linux LiveCD to get around them...
