hard drive issue
i've got an old computer that got the dreaded blue screen of death (unmountable boot volume), i don't have the orginal windows startup disk and no other computer i have has a floppy for me to download some stuff that i found on different websites that said you could use. my question is could i remove the hard drive and put it in a new computer i have and reinstall the windows disk that i think i have for the new computer and "fix" the old hard drive? or am i just S.O.L? i've got some old stuff on the hard drive that i'd like to have...thanks!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Newegg.com - VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter - Adapters & Gender Changers
best product ever! I use it for fixing and transferring from old hard drives. it is one of the best $20 I've ever spent on technology. |
cool...so that will allow me to connect it to my good computer and "hopefully" fix the issue? thanks...

yep :) you can use it on all IDE/SATA and laptop drives. It's great!
You should be able to mount the drive and copy whatever you want off of it. If you are trying to repair the OS then you'll have to install the drive on your good PC and go through all the hoops. |
i don't really care about fixing the hard drive...i just want the pics and music! i really appreciate your help dude!

Heh. Just got an enclosure for my 300 GB IDE since I now only have a laptop and some scattered guts of my old desktop. I justified it as a need for extra storage, but re-finding all my old pr0n and gf(now wife) pics was nice.

do they make one for an scsi drive ? I'm not seeing one on newegg
|
sadly no. I keep a machine and SCSI cards handy for just that reason. Yet another win for Steve Jobs!
