How can I download an imbedded video?
My band was featured (sort of) in a video on Freep.com http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a.../80625006/1002 and I'm interested in downloading a copy for promotional purposes.
Am I going to violate copyright laws? Am I going to be able to download the thing at all? Should we just contact the reporter and request a copy? Thanks again for all of your help, past and future! |
Which browser are you using?
|
IE7 (I am a slave to ATT/Yahoo)
I am not opposed to Firefox, but QW is comfortable with IE. |
This is the only one I found that doesn't require Firefox.
|
I know several Firefox plugins are available, but for IE I can't help you.
I'm in love with your Rickenbacker. |
eh... It's some sort of windows media player embed.... I can't even locate the file that is called up to play so that I can download it at all.
|
I'll re-install firefox for this, if it gets the job done. What plug-ins should I look into.
(yeah, Rics are the best! but that's for another thread, another... well, I guess it IS technology, isn't it?) |
The Download Helper plugin for Firefox works for me on Firefox 3 - the video is an embedded flv which might be a little difficult to work with after you've downloaded it. You'd typically need something like the Wimpy Desktop FLV Player to view the file on your computer, not sure how you'd go about converting it into a different format if you needed to.

"IANAL"?? I Am Not At Liberty?? (unfamiliar acronym) Anywho.... You are probably right. I've already suggested to "management" to contact the Freep. Although, I still intend to play with that Firefox thing. Good stuff to know, down the road. Thanks all! I'll let you know how it goes.... |
You can download and install DivX for Dr. DivX which will convert FLV to DIVX, which can have its extension changed to AVI and still be playable in WMP, WinAmp, VLC, etc.

I think I might have revealed (at least to myself) how much I read Slashdot, where it is used frequently :oogle: |
Well, Firefox 3, cool as it is, ain't getting it done, yet, even with the download helper. Wimpy's a cute lil guy. i'll find a use for him.
Meanwhile, I'm waiting for an email from my son with the code for the vid. He tells me I can imbed it wherever I wish. Hey, wait a minute..... |

Wait, uhh.. I mean... NERRRRD!! Regarding the original topic, I'd just contact the site owners. Get the original video and deal with any legal issues all in one swell foop. |

yeah it doesn't show up in my downloader plug in... anyone else? |
I can see files with DownloadHelper, but it looks like the site is doing some nifty scripting to prevent downloads (the file only comes in at 2-3kb once started).
Has the video moved or disappeared? The link now goes to artists revitalizing Detroit's Russell Industrial Center (I remember drums). |

The band can be seen on video here: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...3-8e6448a93e3e (Highly valued endorsement here: "Tuesday, June 24, 2008 8:10 AM good vid guys........sweet chick too cheers.............fly") (end of self-serving whorism) I've emailed the reporter with, hopefully, enough schmooze to get her to email me a file. The effort to download from the Freep was a nice exercise. i may have developed a skill to apply somewhere down the line, and gotten back to Firefox, as well. All in all, not a waste of time. Thanks for the tips and support, everyone! |
You guys have a good sound going on. Sort of classic clean rock, with a bit of a Euro vibe.
An endorsement from the Fly will almost always get a listen from me. |
