Your favorite word processor
My first thread:
As a writer, I have had the option of using Word, WordPerfect, OpenOffice and 602Suite. What I am curious about is what word processor do you find most useful, and why? (I am split between OpenOffice and 602Suite - my editor likes the fact it is Word compliant, I like it because they were FREE!) Please feel free to comment, and don't forget to donate if you can! |
Notepad

I just use Microsoft Word :P
But I dont find it usefull at all, just basic word processing. |
word cuz i'm just used to it.
i only use that for essays and all that stuff. for informal stuff, notepad, a lot faster to load up |
MS Word.
It's free because I have it on an old disc from a previous PC that I don't have anymore. |
I use microsoft Word, but you can try OpenOffice: which is open-source, free, and is supposed to be just as good (even better...Openoffice.org). Alternately, you can try Corel Wordperfect.

i always liked worperfect. but now that openoffice.org is out, and does the formats needed, and is free.... well, i like free

OpenOffice is the shizznit.

I use/have used at home and work all the products you mentioned except 602Suite and I prefer Word for real work (to be presented to others) on both the PC and Mac. The only feature that stands out to me for Wordperfect is the reveal codes function - it's excellent, but not enough. I was never a huge fan of OpenOffice. If I'm doing quick and dirty things then of course it's all about Notepad or Textedit.

MS Word. I suppose if I went Linux I'd use OpenOffice.
For Mac, MS Word until MS drops support for that too. |
Text Edit. I HATE HATE HATE! office for X. it is evil incarnate. its' got this little "edit" menu on the right, but all the stuff is still in those arcane right click contextual menus. it's VERY frustrating. I'm not a big writer. all my papers last semester were .txt files created in either textpad at school or Text Edit at home. easy as pie. :D

word works for me... :)
|
hmm.. I would say OpenOffice is my favorite (Abiword had too many bugs with the last version I used)
although if we are going to just text editors, I love pico/nano :) |
Atlantis is a pretty good w/p

I use MS Word for essays and the like, and the only reason I use MS Office is because my school work requires PowerPoint and Access. My professors are very picky about my presentations being PPT files. Argh. Otherwise I might look into switching to something else...
For work and programming I use vim. Sometimes I use pico but my friends make fun of me for that. |
I don't do much with it, but Appleworks does all I ask.
