You Cannot Have Too Many Monitors

You can never, ever, ever, ever have too many monitors

The_Dude 06-18-2003 04:48 PM

just like a cockpit, wow

viveleroi0 06-18-2003 05:15 PM

holy fricken cow. That guy must have a god complex when he's just in windows...

tinfoil 06-18-2003 05:20 PM

Shit, I thought I felt leet when I had three.

That's it, I need more now :D

Hydralisk 06-18-2003 05:27 PM

so how exactly does one do that?

I have a few spare monitors in my house, do I need a special program? Is each monitor hooked up to a unique cpu?

micah67 06-18-2003 05:30 PM

wow.

micah67 06-18-2003 05:33 PM

Wow. I'm impressed. I was thinking of going to three - it seems I keep running out of Real Estate.

As I understand it, the XP OS can handle up to 7 monitor cards. I count 13 monitors and they obviously are tied into one system. Does he have 7 dual-head cards?!?

A dual head video card is the easiest way. Beware nvidia cards prior to GeForce 3, however, since their implementation sucks. You can also add a secondary PCI card, but some PCI vid (Matrox and some earlier ATi) cards don't care to be secondary and may sometimes require some bios tweaking.

bryanzera 06-18-2003 05:43 PM

This setup (13 Monitors) was done with a program called Wideview.

I already have a radeon 9700pro and use 2 monitors with that. So you just keep adding video cards to the PCI slots and you can get a set up like that?

My games already slow down when I have 2 monitors, so I'm guessing that you need a lot more power to run that many smoothly. How do you hook up all those comps?

Sion 06-18-2003 06:30 PM

if you look below the desks, you will see no less than 7 cases (and there may be more that you cant see). im guessing seven total systems, each with a dual head vidcard, probably a LAN.

cool setup though.

darkure 06-18-2003 06:53 PM

Jesus fuck! Think of the power bill.

I still wish I could ever afford such a set up though.

bob32 06-18-2003 08:21 PM

Too bad it's just for Microsoft Flight Simulator (assuming he's using Wideview). Imagine doing that with everything...

gamer715 06-18-2003 08:30 PM

that is damn awesome

i need more monitors

i felt 1337 when i got my 2nd...

freedomdowntime 06-19-2003 02:31 AM

OK, this is a robbery. I am taking your chair. By the way, mind if I play flgiht sim for a sec or two?

The_Dude 06-19-2003 04:39 AM

where do you live again?

sandeep 06-19-2003 09:49 PM

i like the 15" monitor up top for msn messenger. nice touch :)

Boner 06-19-2003 10:55 PM

I think its probably too much when you have to look around the room to find one of the applications that you have running :)

YourNeverThere 06-19-2003 11:49 PM

i need more!

sub zero 06-20-2003 02:38 AM

can i borrow that?

rogue49 06-20-2003 03:06 AM

Man, I hate that shit.
We've got 6 different monitors for each station in our NOC at work
Layered 3 x 2.
It confused the hell out of me.

Give me one BIG monitor.

gump 06-20-2003 06:48 AM

that rocks i'd love try and play that

bryanzera 06-20-2003 09:14 AM

This isn't my setup. I found the pic online. I wish it was my setup ...

-z3r0- 06-20-2003 08:19 PM

soop, thats not a seat belt, its some sort of strap/harness to hold the joystick in proper position for playing the sim.

freedomdowntime 06-21-2003 03:25 PM

On the subject of the chair I can see it now

"fat boy's lard burns as he he fails to unbuckle his joypad from his chair."

juanvaldes 06-21-2003 04:44 PM

this just made slashdot

wasapeas 06-21-2003 06:23 PM

That is absolutely insane, I thought I was the coolest one on the block with 2 =(

Randerolf 06-21-2003 09:20 PM

Too bad the man will die from radation posioning from the monitors.

heh, all those people who we laugh at who are dying becasue of cigarettes, will chuckle when we, as a generation, all start getting adverse effects from heavy computing.

Err... I mean... HE IS GOD.

duckduck 06-21-2003 09:21 PM

I wonder how he got that to work in windows? I'm pressuming since it's MS Flight simulator that it's not Linux. I thought the max monitors windows supported was 8. Does that limit increase when it's dual view card.

If he's doing it with the other comps, I wonder how he got the image from one prog to be outputted through the other comps.

Really cool.

**EDIT**

Nevermind. Read slashdot and saw he's using Wideview software and that he's using both XP and Win98. Cool

ireallydontknow 09-22-2003 10:25 PM

AWESOME

jujueye 09-23-2003 10:53 AM

The gamer in me says....UT2003....Q3...Undying.....so many games could be 'enhanced' like this....so sweet!

propaganda 09-23-2003 11:53 AM

Damn I've always wanted to play Combat Flight Simulator on muitple monitors. Nice to know that someone actually does it:D

*edit* wow I didn't even notice that joystick.... hmmmm i should try that out

SonicRL 09-23-2003 12:14 PM

Damn..that is really nice. I wish I had more moniters to try that out. Playing CFS on one moniter seems like nothing compared to that!

Tandem 09-23-2003 03:30 PM

lol - bit obsessive.

I'd kill myself laughing if the owner of that fine array of monitors sat down to start playing and the console displaying the airplane instrumentation died.

B21 09-23-2003 03:39 PM

WOW thats a cockpit

But how does 1 go about doing that?

Dilbert1234567 09-23-2003 11:41 PM

windows 2k only suports 10 monitors what os you running?

Mr.Deflok 09-24-2003 12:14 AM

That's cool and all but where the heck are the candy wrappers and empty coke bottles? No workstation is complete without them!

Great Scott 09-24-2003 12:35 AM

I keep telling myself not to drool. There are more important things to want and do in life. Just wish I could make myself truly believe that. I want that setup too!
