I just remembered I have one. They were great machines. Anyone got any cool screen caps or anything?

I don't think I've got any pics. But this guy does.

I've got a 2000 in my dad's basement, right next to his 4000. They were neat. Too bad they never made it as a "third option" to Mac/PC. That would have made it interesting.

I suppose Linux will have to be the third now. We shall see.

Do you know of any software amiga emmys that actually work? I tried UAE without much success.

Yup

I still have my Amiga, Commodore 64, 128D, and Vic 20 somewhere around here. Lest we forget those massive 5.25" drives, a tape drive, and ooh my 300 and 1200 baud modems!

Truely kick ass machines in their day. I still play alot of the games everyonce and awhile on my PC.

yeah Bablylon 5's amiga renders can still hold their own compared to some of todays stuff. Amiga's a wonderful machine..wonder when someone is going to get it back on track.. that german company seems to be holding out.

I heard about a guy who was working on a thing called Amiga boxer, which was like the Amiga's answer to the Power PC. Didn't seem to go anywhere, though.

I don't think there are any other Amiga emulators besides UAE...at least, not for the PC. Anyway, I've gotten UAE to work before. It's a little difficult, though -- you need a lot of patience, as well as a Kickstart ROM image and Workbench disk images. It's possible to find these on the web, but since there still is an Amiga, Inc. and they own the copyrights, it's technically illegal, so you're on your own as far as that goes. (However, there is a company called Cloanto that sells a product called Amiga Forever that, among other things, includes legally licensed Kickstart ROM images and Workbench disk images.)

Still, you might check out AIAB (Amiga In A Box), which requires only a Kickstart ROM image. AIAB is basically the current state of the Amiga art, as far as I can tell. It's pretty impressive, considering the relative power of the Amiga.

Of course, if you want the true hardcore retrocomputing experience, you could install Workbench yourself... here's a guide to doing that. That's what I did. Of course, it's not nearly as functional or impressive as an AIAB install would be.

I saw Fatboy Slim on the extras DVD for Moulin Rouge the other night, and he was talking about how he still uses a "15-year old" computer for his music because it's the only one he knows how to operate.

It was an Amiga! Amazing how many people are still using it out there for video/music applications.

I had a vic20, commodore 64 and a 128. Never could afford an amiga. They were all great machines.

I want an Amiga so badly

I have a few C64s, C128s, a VIC-20, and a Commodore Plus/4 though, as well as several Atari computers and Timex Sinclairs. What I want most though is an Amiga. I think I'll have to go ebaying sometime

I remember those guru meditation errors (on an amiga 500). I remember that those errors actually had a real definitive meaning instead of the "normal" "irql is less than or equal to" Bsod on windows machines that just tell you that the machine crached on something

Did the A1200 ever make it to the states. Nobody's mentioned it yet, but in Britain it was probably the most popular of the series. One of the big gaffes that killed the Amiga over here was that they had this HUGE marketing drive for the A1200 then forgot to make anuy at Christmas and the demand was about 10 times the supply. Then everyone got pissed off and bought a PC instead.

actually a windows BSOD gives a lot more information than the guru meditation ever did, basically a GM was just the software or hardware failure code + the address it happened at, a BSOD not only gives you that but a stack trace and program/kernel space as well.

the A1200 did make it to the states, but it was the end of life for amiga commerically around that point, and the amiga was never as popular in the states as it was in europe.

just in case i get flamed for the bsod vs GM i am big amiga fan, like i said still use my A4000 ex member of one of the larger amiga demo groups, ex team17 and did TFX amiga.

I have an Amiga 500, I found two broken ones in a second hand store. Luckily on one of them only the floppy was broken so i replaced it with the one from the other. Fun games to play while you do the warmup drinking before a party.
