				CD-R drive not opening
Hey, the title is pretty self explanatory. My cd-r drive is not opening. I push the button and it not responding, no light or anything. I called Gateway, yes i know i was desperate, and they said it was a driver problem. So here I am. I dont think he knew what the hell he was talking about so Im here to find out. Is there anyway to diagnose the problem. I heard it also might be power connection problem or a motor problem with the drive. Also there is no hole to put a paperclip in so that idea is out the window. Thanks for any help. PS. Im a poor college student so if I could avoid buying a new drive that would be great. Take care. |

| Location: up north | When you boot up your computer, can you get in the BIOS? in there, you should see a list of drives (hard drive and cd/dvd/a . if your cd-r drive is in the list, then it's a problem in windows i would think. if it's not there, then you have a problem. open the computer (side panels) and check if the power cables and flat-gray cables(IDE) are correctly plugged in. also, check what your power supply is. 250? 300? 350? it's possible you're not getting enough power to the drive. If you have a 2nd computer that's working, i suggest taking the defective drive and trying it in the 2nd computer to test it out. that way you'll be sure. good luck with your problem!

| Devils Cabana Boy Location: Central Coast CA | while inside of bios, try the button, if it still doesn't work, its not a driver problem.
