Can I upgrade this dinosaur?
I have an old HP pavilion which has a 1000mhz proc (not 1 ghz, so says the processor) and It has become the main comp, as my other one died as its warranty went out.
I simply can not find any information on what kind of socket it has, weather it is removable at all and my ram has no markings to tell me what kind of RAM I need. (oh joy) Yes, I know it may be better to just build my own, but the wife would skin me alive for even mentioning it. Is the PC slow? Why do you want to upgrade it? If it's simply for Windows browsing like Internet, Office, etc. then upgrading the hardware won't make it any faster (adding 256 MB of ram will help it a small amount). If it's running slow in Windows, it probably needs to be formatted.
If you want to do some xhardxcorex gaming on it, it's a lost cause. ![]()

I'd buy a 256 MB stick of ram for it and format/reinstall Windows on it. You won't be able to tell a difference between it and a Core 2 Duo afterwards (except for gaming).
