Laptop Touchpad
Now before I ask, please know that I am aware that these things are less than perfect. I normally attach an external mouse, but sometimes I don't bring it with me.
When I'm browsing the internet and I go to click on a link with the touchpad instead of one of the buttons below it, clicking the link will sometimes cause my window to shrink. Not minimize, but shrink (middle button of the 3 in the top right corner of the browser window). Does anyone know why this happens? Sometimes it happens 3 or 4 times in a row with the same link (I tested it, I wasn't sitting there like some idiot clicking the touchpad instead of clicking the button :) ). I'm pretty sure there's nothing to be done about it, but it can't hurt to ask. Thanks in advance. -Tamerlain |
Ghosts?
Yup - you ave a haunted laptop, my friend. Or not. |
Does it still happen after you disable tapping?
Check the TouchPad control panel (usually part of the Mouse control panel). If Tapping is enabled then tapping on that link may match a zone and perform the Restore Down action. I have to assume that link appears in the tap zone. If that isn't it I'd disable the touchpad software entirely to see if that eliminates the problem. (msconfig) Or you have ghosts. |
There's no option in Control Panel > Mouse to disable tapping, so that plan didn't pan out.
It doesn't matter where on the screen the link is, this problem can happen from any area of the screen. Sometimes when I click the "x" to close the window it just performs the Restore Down function. How would disabling the touchpad software fix the problem? -Tamerlain |
Bummer.
Does it have its own control panel? Is there any control over types of taps? Have you checked for updated drivers? The idea behind disabling the software was to eliminate its added features as the cause. Depending on the make it should still operate as a mouse though I suppose the taps will probably go away. That's one fix. |
Nope, doesn't have it's own control panel. Disabling the touchpad just eliminates it completely as a mouse pad - had to plug in my other mouse to turn it back on.
Drivers are the most recent ones available. Guess that leaves ghosts... -Tamerlain |
