DVD player causing buzzing
 

My DVD player is causing an annoying buzzing sound that is linked to volume..it gets louder when the volume goes up and gets quieter when it goes down. We were using a different one for a few months, and recently plugged our old one back in; it never buzzed before we unplugged it and used the other one. The DVD player is about 2 years old, it wasn't a cheap model but wasn't an expensive one either, and we've never had problems with it before now. It's definitely not the TV causing the problems, it's the DVD player. Any suggestions?

Most likely your power cable is too close to your speaker cables and you're getting the hum of 60hz through your speakers. Try re-arranging your cords.

Actually, since it increases with volume, it's likely internal to the DVD player (or the connections are shorted somewhere). If it was from a power source, you'd likely always hear a constant buzzing.

Is it connected directly to the TV or a component connected to an amp, etc? Where is the volume control? (on the TV or amp or...?)

You've checked the cables?

Is it just left or right? What if you switch the audio connections?

Well, I moved the cords around...and that seemed to help a little, but it still buzzed.

The DVD player cord is connected directly to the TV...and I guess the volume control is on the TV, because we don't have any amps. Our TV doesn't have separate speakers, so I can't adjust to one or the other. I'm not sure about other audio connections, but I'm going to fiddle with it in a few minutes and I'll post any results. Clean the audio connectors. You may have a bad ground. So less effective shielding.

So, it just turns out that I'm a dumbass...I had the connection wires in the wrong plugs (but they were color coded, so I thought I had them right). I even fiddled with them for 20 minutes yesterday. Hubby just fixed it for me and problem solved. Thanks anyway, everyone!
