is there any good unified messenger software?
that you can use to talk to people on MSN, Yahoo and AIM... with one application so I dont have to run all three all the time?
Anyone know of such a thing? |
Trillian is my favorite of the all-in-one chat clients. I haven't used chat clients for so long though, so not sure if there is something new and fancy out there.
Trillian absolutely rocks. Talk to all my MSN, Yahoo, and AIM friends at the same time. Semi-transparent windows, too.. ooooOOooh.
The Linux geeks like Jabber, too.. it's open source. |
Gaim 2 was just released. It supports all the major networks INCLUDING Google Talk.
Trillian is pretty good. It works well; continues to keep me happy - which is sometimes harder than it may seem. :D
thats looks pretty good. Thanks! (Trillian)

Trillian has some serious limitations since they've split it into a free and pay (Trillian Pro) version.
People say good things about GAIM all the time, but it struck me as bloated crap. I use Miranda. |
GAIM is not bloated, it’s nice and, modular and concise, i love it.
I would have to agree with trillian. Its important to find a skin you like though. the one it comes with is kinda annoying. It does have its limits but if you just plan to chat and stuff it works great.
I also use trillian and love it.
For the Mac (I see OP is probably on a Windows box) I recommend Adium. Great little application, annoying default sounds.
And another vote for Trillian on Windows side. I upgraded to the paid version and honestly there is nothing there that I really need. The free/basic version is really quite good. |
Is Adium the only OSX application?
Charlatan - it was the only one I could find. I like that it also incorporates Google Talk - however, now I have some people on my buddy list 3-4 times because they also use each method.
Does Trillian support webcams yet? Specifically for MSN? I had to switch back to regular MSN because webcams weren't supported back in... March '06.

I have used Miranda in the past. It is very basic to start off with but has all manner of plugins to configure it. Like the foobar2000 of the IM world; it takes time to get it right but can rock when you do. Not sure about webcam support, haven't used it in a year or so.

I have used Trillian for a while and have never had a problem. I just installed the beta of Gaim 2.0 but haven't used it yet.
I like GAIM. It's one of the few that will work with my segregated hard drive. It's ever-so-user-friendly when I'm tired, but it screws with the Active X settings for my work stuff. And being that this is my work laptop that I use at home, well...
I support GAIM. It's free and works great.
I prefer Trillian because it looks better, but I use GAIM also.
