Shared Docs log in??
Hi, up until recently I used to be able to access shared docs from other coputers on my network but recently they have stopped letting me and come up with these boxes. Does anybody know how i could stop this happening? Is it something to do with my new router?
Thanks, Chris Trying to access a xp computer: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...20stuff/xp.jpg Trying to access a Linux computer: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...uff/ubuntu.jpg |
did you make any configuration changes to your system recently?

...like your login? I'd guess your Windows credentials (username/pw) changed. Or you're logging into Windows as another user that doesn't have the same privileges.
The command "net use..." allows alternate credentials. |
All the pc's have admin privilages and no passwords apart from the ubuntu one but i put the user and password in and it still didnt work.

xp does not (by default) allow null passwords for remote use. change all the user names to the same thing, and all the passwords for that user name to the same thing.

All the passwords are already the same.

If it started happening at the same time then we should be looking at your system and credentials. If the behavior on both servers started at different times, even slightly, then I'd suspect settings on the servers.
Is the XP "server" home or pro? XP Home logins are against the guest account. Did I already say "Simple File Sharing" is a pox on mankind? Blank passwords are a continual source of grief. Use something, even something simple. |
They are all xp home apart from the ubuntu machine, I am not sure but after we reinstaled windows on 2 of our xp machines this started happening, on our other xp machine that hasn't had xp reinstalled we can access its shared docs fine.

Now we have reformatted another xp machine and we can no view its shared docs. We have also got a new pc with XP Pro x64 and we can't access shared docs on that and it comes up with an error saying that we don't have permission to access it and it doesnt come up with a log in screen, but when we try to connect to our windows 2000 pc we get the log on box come up but we have the chioce of what username goes in and if we type the usernmae and password of the user account on that pc we can access it. The only thing i can think of is something to do with our new router but i'm not sure what.
