Image Text Recognition Software

I'm looking for software that can recognize text (letters and numbers) better than Microsoft's OCR software. I tried the OCR stuff, but it basically took a table of numbers from my textbook and made it into a single column spanning about 8 pages. The idea for this is that the software would see the table as a table and keep some semblance of that formatting (that is, if there are 4 pieces of information on one line on the page, those 4 pieces show up on the same line in the Word file).

Anyone know of any good software that can do this?
