I need help with my setup.....

I had recently purchased a 50 inch LCD backlit projection HDTV. I want to hook up my computer to my TV, but I need help.

I was wondering which video card I need so that I can hookup my computer to my TV and use it as a secondary monitor.

I want the good resolution of my TV. I have 3 open S-Video connections, also I have two HDTV Compsite Connections.

Any suggestions?

You can get a DVI to HDMI cable, that’s what i use on my system to get 1080i output to my HDTV. svideo and RCA are all 480i (or is it 240i) basic old school TV format. Remember that your video card has to also support the resolution, 1080x1920, which is quite demanding on all but the newest cards. What kind of video card do you have?

Well the some of NVIDIA 6000’s support composite out. I’m not up to date with ATI though but I know that some are able to produce a composite signal. Will you be playing new 3D games with this video card?

No, I just want it as my primary monitor so to say.....
I will be playing games, but they are of the older variety.....

Civ III and such, but more so for the movies and music use of my computer.....

To sit from my couch and be able to use my computer normally, is the feeling I am going for.....

Is the display 1080I or 1080P, you don’t want to use 1080i as your monitor it will look terrible and jittery. If it is 1080p drive over to your local computer shop, find a geforce 6200 that has a component out cable sold with it, buy it (keep receipt) install it, try to get it to work. If you do get it to work, return it, and buy it at newegg.com for $50 less.

a tip, if you have a second computer? The way I got my setup built, was I used a second computer to connect to my TV computer remotely (TightVNC), so I could change the resolutions until it worked.

just think, if you installed a urinal and a beer fridge in your couch, you'd never have to get up!

What about 720p, are there any for that?

They should work with 720P as well, are you absolutely sure it supports 720P, you could damage your TV if you try to use it at 720p and it does not support it.

I’ve never dealt with hooking up a 720p TV to a computer, nor have I tried with a component cable. But it should be the same, go pick up a 6200 from your local shop, (make sure it will work with your computer) and give it a try, they should have instructions in the box about using the component dongle with your TV. Let me know how it turns out.
