New iPod update experiences for 1.1.1, 2006-03-23
So, there's a new iPod update available. I happen to know that a number of us have iPods so I was wondering what experiences people have had with this update? I have been badly burned by the last update (1.1) and I am, thus, reluctant to simply go out and get this one (1.1.1).
Apple claimed that the 1.1 update simply added remote control suppord (for a new accessory that had come out) and some bug fixes. All lies. That update removed a feature that I had used (manual backlight control) and broke video playback for many video files on the video iPod. So, now they have a new update but, as you can imagine, I am reluctant to give it a try since the last update was such a bad failure that I had to revert it and, in the process, was forced to reformat the iPod and re-add all my files. What a pain in the ass that was. I have lost a lot of confidence in Apple software and they will have to work hard to earn it, again... So, has anyone tried this new update? What are your thoughts? Have you encountered any problems with it? Thank you... |

It doesn't update my unit, so I haven't tried it.
Places to read user comments: Apple releases iPod update with maximum volume limit Bug fixes apparently include "It fixes the video bug and fixes the (even more annoying, for me) ratings screen bug, on the 60gig model." Someone else noted "Alas, holding the MENU button doesn’t activate the backlight any longer. Instead, it returns the user to the Main Menu whatever point you’re at.", so that's the same as it was in the last update. A second list of comments: iPod Updater 2006-03-23 Released - Mac Forums , but I got bored and stopped reading. Even though it is "MacRumors", they usually have the best user reporting on updates.
