Undetected USB ports
Basically, I tried to update the mainboard drivers (EVGA AMD nForce 4 SLI motherboard) and something happened to pci.sys, so I repaired the windows installation, and reinstalled the latest mainboard drivers (the ones that had previously messed up). Now, however, my USB ports on the motherboard are not being detected in Windows XP Pro. I've updated to SP2 and have all the windows updates.
I'm not sure what to do as I've checked in the BIOS to make sure USB was turned on (and it is) with V1.1/2.0 enabled. Why would none of the USB ports be detected now? There are no conflicts listed under the Device Manager that I can find, so I am clueless at this point. Summary: EVA nForce 4 AMD SLI board (no actual name on it) USB ports on the motherboard are not detected in Windows despite being enabled in BIOS and with latest motherboard drivers |
Can you roll back to the previous mobo drivers? That's the only thing I can think of ATM.

Worth a shot. I'll let you know if it works.
Edit1: Just used the ones off the mobo CD, and I got nothing still. Ethernet works, but no USB (just like before). Edit2: Helps if the USB controller has its driver installed, doesn't it? Everything seems to be working now. Very odd that it wasn't installed by either Windows or the mobo CD automatically. Oh well, everything is functioning properly now. Thanks for the help MikeSty. |
Damn :| Are you sure they're enabled under the device manager? That might be why there is no conflict ?

In case you don't see the edit, I got it working now. Seems that neither the CD nor Windows saw fit to actually install the driver for the USB host controller. A quick "Update driver" on the driverless device fixed it all.
