Hey, I just started using torrents last night and I am running Azureus. My little brother has been using this thing for a long time with no problems and he kinda helped me out. Well it was working fine last night but now whenever I try to use it about 5 min after it starts up my internet just completely dies. I cant open anything and closing Azureus does nothing. The only way to get it back is to reset my computer.

Wondering if any of your guys know what might be happening and how to solve it. I have asked all my friends that run this program and none of them have ever run into anything like this before. Also there are 3 computers in this house using the same router and my internet is the only one going down. I tried reseting the modem and it doesnt affect my computer at all.

I did a search for this but I couldn't find any problems like the one I am having, so sorry if this is a repost or anything.

Limit the outgoing and incoming bandwith. Whenever I try to fill my upstream I can't get anything to work either.

Azuereus is terrible at bandwidth and more importantly memory management. JAVA is a nice way of gaining a little platform independence but terrible trying to deal with memory (in my own experience). Use XBTT or better yet, uTorrent. They are both nice and small and do a better job than Azureus. If you're worried about using plugins like safepeer to protect you, use PeerGuardian instead.

I have no idea about any of this stuff. As I said last night was the first time I have ever used anything like this.
I made it so I can only download 3 torrents at a time and upload at like 5kbps. It still destroys my computer.

And trache do you have any links where I can get one of those programs? I dont trust trying to find them myself as most of these style sites are just porn pop ups that ravage the computer. Also if I switch to one of those programs is it possible to keep the half finished torrents? I have about 2 gigs worth of stuff half way through and losing it would be a pain.

I had the same exact problem with Azureus and switched to bitcomet, i'm very pleased with it and don't have any problems now, anyway, bittorrent tend to use all your bandwith if you don't limit the upload and download limits. I have a 512kbps connection and can download at 50kbps while upping at 35kbps and still surf the net without any problems. As well, i've learned that, at least with my connection, i shoud not download more than 3 files at the same time.

try also limiting the number of peers you are uploading to.

Azureus is for advanced users, it does not automatically limit your bandwidth, and you need to limit your upload when you use it. As for memory use, java is not bad; a lot of people badmouth it with out having a clue. Being based off of java makes it easy to code plugins, and a wide variety of plugins are available for it. In addition, bit torrent is very rough on your network, and some network devices cannot handle that many connections. I’ve had some routers and some Network Cards cannot do it, they grind to a halt after a few minutes.

Set your max upload to 66% of your upload, and adjust it as necessary. I have charter at home, 3,000 kbps down, 250 kbps up. Before installed my packet shaper, my max upload was set to 160 kbps, and I had about a 250ms of lag when opening a webpage, but games were unplayable. Now that I have a packet shaper installed, I have my max upload set to 200 kbps and I feel no lag when I browse the web and only have a slight bit of lag with games, (increase of about 15ms latency). In both instances I have many torrents going at the same time (18 now, normaly more than 20, all active) and I still manage to fill my up and down pipe. Since you don’t have a packet shaper, set your max upload to 66% of your maximum upload, this will clear up your problems.

Dilbert1234567 is definitely on target when it comes to Azureus. I find it to be a powerful and highly useful client, but it's definitely not for beginners and/or casual users. Until you get a handle on how the bittorrent network works you're probably better off going with utorrent or something else a little more user friendly.

i used to have this problem with bitcomet it would kill my router so i was totaly disconnected to the internet for a while or untill i rebooted the router. i changed from bitcommet to the ABC bittorrent client and it fixed all my problems.

The reason your computer doesn't recover when you exit Azureus is because Azureus doesn't shut down completely when you close the program. You need to go into Task Manager (hit Control-Alt-Delete) and End Process on Azureus.exe.

I hope that helps, keeps you from having to restart your PC.

I actually noticed that Az doesnt close all the way, but when I go into the task manager it would close that way either, it would just ignore my commands.

hmm, as I have never shut AZ down, I cannot confirm it not shutting down, well I only shut it down to upgrade AZ and AZ handles that by itself, but that’s like once a month.

Both of these have very low overhead and I have found them both to be very responsive.

You can keep your running torrents, if I'm not mistaken if you store the files in the same place and use the same torrent files in the new programs, you shouldn't have any problems continuing your downloads. YMMV.

Wow! It works great! So simple to use compared to Az. I am well on my way to getting a decent country/oldies collection.
