how many posts
how come on here you can't see how many posts you've done.
usually on boards like this you have your username, and the amount of posts would be underneath i think this is an exilent idea not doing it, but just curious about why |
It's a way as the mods / admins and generally everyone here likes it: it is a conscious choice to not allow post count to factor into a member's perceived worth.
We are all, more or less, afforded an equal voice and opinion here. From how I understood it, when we did have / if we were ever? to display post counts, it would just devolve into a 'pissing match' for some members' to want to outdo so-and-so 'other member', for some sort of e-bonus points redeemable for naught but your boyhood compeitive spirit. |

k thanks for explaining. yeah i understand. sorry for the stupid question |
We are here to serve, not discourage.
It's more a commentary on how we, as a community, do not feel that an indivudual's post count is worth anything to who you are here, and what you have to offer. It wasn't a silly question, so long as you had clear intentions as to wondering why it was "missing" from your posts. (It is visible in your profile, however, but the posts that "count" are onl your most meaningful ones. It's an algorithm that doesn't really serve to memorize, as it doesn't matter much as to how you may choose to peruse, and participate, within the forums.) |
It's not a stupid question. And thanks for the good answer, Jetee.
We've displayed post counts in the past. We moved past that years ago. You can look it up on someone's profile if you're curious, but it's not really a metric that we assign much weight to outside of the promotion tool that the staff uses. The only way that you can even begin to guess someone's post count these days is by their user title, which might change after certain milestones are reached. However, it takes a moderator (or admin) to physically upgrade you, and they only do that after they review your contributions for content. That review is manual instead of automatic because there are some hidden parts of the board that have some sensitive information about folks that we want to keep from a Google crawl - or any moron who cuts and pastes original work onto another board. Keep contributing and you'll start to see what I mean fairly soon. In the meantime, please feel free to ask questions or for help. It's what we do. |
