What the?? Site is awful on iPhone!

Even though I've had it (iPhone) year, I guess I haven't used it to browse TF, because i'd have rememberd this mess. I surfed in and am stuck in some horrible mobile skin that's only barely functional.

Please, there must be a way to make it stop. I want the same skin I use at home. Help?

TIA!

there is a mod that autodetects mobile browsers and selects a pared down version of the site. It's like that for everyone that uses a mobile product. It's not barely functional, it's 100% functional and has been tested by many people.

I'm not sure how to override it so that you can see the site as it is on your desktop.

If you say it's fully functional, I will believe you, but it sure doesn't look like it to me right now.

It looks like a 20 year old BBS. There's got to be a way to turn it off.

I don't know, I'm going by Halx since he's teh one with the iphone. yes the theme is very light on the graphics.

The solution may be as simple as removing the iPhone from the list of mobile devices. No one with a real browser is going to like this.

Well, I knew this dilemma would come up.

I have an iPhone myself. One of the old ones. I like the mobile theme because it downloads very fast over the edge network. It allows me to browse like a normal person when I am standing in line for something or just chilling out somewhere. Now that there are 3G iPhones who don't share the same woes, I'm caught in the dilemma. True, the skin isn't very PRETTY, but the page weight is a LOT less than any other style.

I use a Nokia N81, with opera mini - I realise that I COULD d/l the full version of TFP, but I don't want to, for the reason of slow data transfer. Can you arrange it to give an opt out on people using full featured browsers on phones? Defaults to mobile skin (thin) lets you pick full featured (fat)?

Choice would be the best, of course, but don't change it just for me. As I said in the OP, I've had the phone for almost a year and today was the first time I'd tried TF with it. It's not like I use it to come here very often. :)

I found the mobile skin to be less than 100% functional. For example, my bookmark takes me directly in to the Tilted Motors subforum. From there I could not find any link to navigate back to the main page. I had to edit the URL manually to get out.

Halx 07-28-2008 12:39 PM

The navigation is at the top of the page.

On a related point.

I tried to use my phone and it gave me a "wrong password" warning. I used the same credentials on a "real" PC and it worked.

Any thoughts?

My PW is alphanumeric, uses cases, and has no special characters. I'm wondering if it's the _ in my username?

bodypainter 07-29-2008 12:59 PM

^^ I got that once on my phone and then it worked the next try. I think I must have got a character wrong and didn't notice before it turned into a dot. Maybe an unintentional double-tap or something.

About this mobile skin, there is definitely not a navigation link at the top of the screen. I see the words "Tilted Forum Project - TFP - Sexuality, Philosophy and Political Discussion" but it's not a link like it is on my desktop. To get the to main page, I have to backspace the "tilted-motors" off the end of the URL.

Scratch that, I just figured out the word "Forum" on the left of the screen underneath that text is the link to the main page. IMO that was a lot harder to find than should be.

All sorted now. You've got to leave the check box blank.

Hi gang. I have a Samsung r410 and I have to say that the site looks great when compared to the desktop version on a 2in screen :) The main bug that I noticed is that the Blog section has all the writing on the right side of the screen, going verically until it reaches the blogger's pic, at which point it goes back to normal. Also, the Blog link is hidden in the User CP section, instead of being in the same line as Forum, New Posts, User CP. Other than that,

Treo700w here (shut up, Verizon wouldn't let me get the non windows version ;) ). I'm very happy with TFPmobile. Lets me do everything I need to do, it's fast, it's actually readable on the little-screen, without having to scroll left and right, and it's easy to read even when bright sunlight makes my display look like junk.

SecretMethod70 07-31-2008 08:38 PM

I really like the TFP Mobile skin, and I'd use it on my phone, but then it'd screw up the "new posts" search the next time I'm sitting at a computer. That's just my own preference though....overall, I really like it.

Martian 07-31-2008 09:33 PM

I use it on my 2 year old LG and I think it's great. I couldn't browse the site on my phone before because it was too slow, but the new diet version is just right!

I would like the option to pick the mobile or regular site. Google has the choice at the bottom of their home page. It initially was the usual look, but the mobile view is tedious trying to view pictures & other attachments.

Is the password check box supposed to make you stay logged in? Every time I click "Forum" up top, it logs me out :(
