Tilted Radio

I think it would be very cool if the TFP had their own Winamp radio station. Though, i have no clue whatsoever how hard it is to do. I just think it would be pretty cool.

Music would ofcourse vary, and perhaps an online request in Tilted Music.

Just thought i'd put it on the table!

(sorry if this has been mentioned before!)

That would be pretty awesome. It would be even more awesome if we could broadcast it on shortwave. Maybe a group of TFP'ers could work together taking in suggestions and playing them.

I think there would be WAAAAAY too much bandwidth required to support that... That is, unless some strings can be pulled and someone can get the heavy duty relay servers to broadcast it... The concept is interesting, feasibility and cost say otherwise.

Not to mention the legal issues involved with playing copyrighted songs.

We could also use only Indie music...but about bandwidth? I have no idea how that works...

illesturban 02-04-2004 11:07 AM

yeah this would be a kickass idea; but yeah the legal issues and bandwidth concerns are substantial setbacks. It is a cool idea though...

What about doing it through Live 365?

http://www.live365.com/pro/pricing.html

That has all the pricing for that page Quadro mentioned. Do you think you could get people to advertise on there? That could really help cover the cost of the monthly fee.

All the royalties are included too, as it says on the page

I believe that Numist runs a shoutcast station, or tikki.... one or the other. They could probably tell us whatever we need. I'd be all for that, and I'd gladly donate my playlist (however one would go about doing that...)

I run a station, and so long as the station is in the united states, and you do NOT make any money off it (That includes donations) its free to run.

Bandwidth can be anywhere from a minimum of 7.5KB/s per user, upwards to 15KB/s anything more is overkill.

So say you want a 40 person station, you will need a server with AT LEAST 300KB/s bandwidth (Actually more). (Dedicated 30Mbit line there folks)

Thus costly.

Hense why I keep my station for a small number of users since I run if off my own home internet.

Otherwise the only options are having one person run the station personally, and have multiple people act as station relay's.

Similar to a processor cluster for computers.

Works like this:
Main server holds up to say 6 people, of them 6 spots you get 6 *relays* to connect, each of them able to host say 5 people.

You then have your self a 30 person station.

But it takes fairly coordinated work to keep that rolling perfectly.
