Tilted Programming

Do we have enough php/perl/C/java/python nuts here to warrant a specific "Programming" forum? Just a suggestion!

phredgreen 10-10-2003 09:20 AM

start rallying the troops within the computing forum, if the love is there it will be recognised.

ratbastid 10-10-2003 06:14 PM

A place where people can relish and savor the putrescence of my extraordinarly obfuscated Perl one-liners? I'm all for it!

Moskie 10-11-2003 06:23 AM

if( $programming_forum =~ /good idea/i )
{
print "I'm for it.";
}

I'm for it.

Stare At The Sun 10-11-2003 07:45 AM

*shrugs* why not just go under "Tilted computers"?

seretogis 10-11-2003 11:21 AM

http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=31125

A thread has been started in Tilted Computers to rally the troops.

---------

Unlikedone: Tilted Computers seems to be more of a hardware/tech-help forum than a programming one. It would be nice to have a forum just for programming, so that threads don't get lost in a sea of "Where did my start bar go??" threads. :)

charliex 10-11-2003 04:48 PM

I'd be for it, currently titled computers is mainly people asking for help and discussions don't seem to be overly welcome or fruitful.

Same thing with the other one, I'm all for it!

Regziever 10-12-2003 01:38 AM

Yepp Sound's like a good idea!

tekaweni 10-12-2003 04:53 AM

I think thats a great idea, I'm all for it.

manalone 10-12-2003 05:14 AM

I think it sounds like a good idea. The tilted puters room is not really applicable imho

spived2 10-12-2003 05:48 AM

Does sound like a good idea.

bodypainter 10-12-2003 08:45 AM

I'd like it except the odds of any other Tilted members having even heard of the language I'm using now are zero plus infinity.

But yeah, I'm for it. I sometimes also have to do odd bits with VB and it would be nice to have an excuse to visit tilted from work.

I used to program in PICK. Is it more obscure than that? :)

feartheraiders6 10-12-2003 05:25 PM

I lend all of the knowledge a senior college student in computer engineering can muster to the cause of C++ world domination.

Nafter 10-13-2003 01:11 PM

sounds good to me, count me in for a vote =)

Lord Humungus 10-13-2003 02:10 PM

i think that would be great. I do stuff in Cold Fusion and can always use the help or would be happy to offer it.

ninety09 10-13-2003 02:25 PM

I would also like a forum like that!

Lasereth 10-13-2003 05:29 PM

I think that the current Computers section is fit for it. I don't see an overwhelming amount of programming threads being started; else a new section would be needed. If the Computer section ever becomes flooded with programming threads, I could see the need though.

seretogis, excellent dick pick!! as terrible as that sounds..

pardon me?

Realizm 10-14-2003 09:31 AM

Seems like a coding forum would be nice... Little bit more specific than computers.

TheBrit 10-14-2003 12:05 PM

I would love one, I like to learn new langauges through real life examples, and this would provide many for me. I would also be able to give input for PHP and shell scripts. Where would UNIX things like makefiles go under this new system?

charliex 10-14-2003 06:07 PM

seretogis , hes the inventor of pick. no joke

Exactly. It seems like such a small part of the community that there are other interests which should be served first.

I guess with enough posts though, I may be in the wrong!

nukeu666 10-15-2003 03:38 AM

good idea

skinbag 10-16-2003 07:33 AM

I have little coding knowledge, but would follow along doggedly.

propaganda 10-16-2003 11:57 AM

not a programmer but always wanted to learn and who better then to learn from then the people of TFP

bubbagumpshrimp 10-16-2003 10:04 PM

sounds like a good idea to me,

oberon 10-17-2003 06:44 PM

It sounds like an interesting idea and I'd probably participate but I doubt there's that much of a need for it. Tilted Computers doesn't really get that many posts.

numist 10-18-2003 05:34 PM

I'm in... even though my knowledge of what I know is limited :P

alkaloid 10-18-2003 10:29 PM

i'll second it too!

My concern, and the reason for this thread to begin with, is that any programming-related posts in Tilted Computers are drowned out by the swamp of tech questions, virus alerts, and hardware-related comments in Tilted Computers. Programming discussion is really quite different than general computer discussion, and to group them together is akin to merging Tilted Motors and Tilted Traveling.

Nefir 10-19-2003 01:11 PM

Just a couple of days ago I wanted to post a programming-related question that was mostly theoretical (iterative recursion, reducing overhead, etc..). I was not sure whether to stick it in Tilted Knowledge or Titled Computers. This is something we NEED.

Tilted Programming has my vote.

rubicon 10-20-2003 04:50 PM

I agree with seretogis thoughts and I'm in favor of a Programming forum. However, I've found that Google searches and experts-exchange.com give me 99% of the answers I need.

I recently posted a thread offering $$$ for someone to write an application in Java. I figured I'd offer the project to my fellow TFP'ers before putting it out for bid. I got a few responses offering to give me some free code snippets but no one else expressed any interest. I thought the lure of getting paid to program would have generated a flood of responses!

[ Side note: the project budget has increased from $500 to $2500. Any takers now? ;) ]

rubicon 10-20-2003 04:57 PM

One other thought...

I've posted answers to a few programming questions and the thread starter never provided any feedback if it worked or not. No thank you's either.

I've found that providing answers to programming questions is more time consuming and some positive feedback isn't a lot to ask in exchange for the free advice.

I hardly think Tilted Programming is warented. Lasereth basicly has the right idea. Perhaps it would be good to add programming to the manifesto for tilted computers, but I really don't think it needs its own section.

Really, I don't think I have ever seen 10 questions on the subject here.

Yes but this said it the best!

I have had a couple of times i wanted to ask some questions about VB6 but wasnt sure where to ask... Aslo i decided not too couse the flood of TECH and other questions would drown my question out!

I am a PROGRAMMER and have no need to look in Tilted computers for programming.
To me Tilted Computers = Tilted Tech.

liquid_dreams 10-21-2003 11:19 PM

count me in

yster 10-22-2003 07:17 PM

This sounds like a great idea to me! It would be a easier for people interested to avoid virus alerts and such as previously mentioned.
