Slight change to how new replies are handled

currently, after posting a new reply, my browser is brought back to the thread, with my reply added on.

Now, I KNOW what i've just written, and I should have read all the previous replies. So it really doesnt add any value at all for me to look at the thread again.

I then have to click one more link to bring me back to the message board directory.

SUGGESTION:

Bring the poster back to the board directory immediately after posting, instead of back to the thread. I imagine it would save quite a fair bit of 'views' on the titty board.

I like being brought back to my post. I like to reread it to see if I made any typos or grammatical errors.

perhaps a preview of just your post would be sufficient.

I bring this up because of the huge volume of posts, especially on the titty board ( where posts stress the server the most). Each new 'post' is effectively an additional 'view' of the thread, (which is not reflected in the total number of views) and is just a further load on the server.

This method will reduce the number of daily page views by the number of daily posts. Is this significant enough for the admins to consider? I feel that its a relatively painless method.

We should do whatever we can to make the existing site more efficient, before resorting to hardware upgrades.

I'd like to see a preview button for the quick reply box, to see if images work.

There has been 320 000 posts since the new forums started in April. With just over 70 days, that would be an average of nearly 5000 posts per day.

Is reducing page views by 5000 a day significant?

I agree with a few of the 'ideas' here. I think that a preview window would be good for the quick reply box. I also hate having to back out of a thread once I've replied. (*same goes for marking a board read... it takes you back to the board*) The 'one-level-up' idea makes sense to me.

Hey there...just wanted to say that I've seen it as an OPTION on whether or not to be brought back to the post or back to the board after you submit a reply...it would be in the options...I think this would make some ppl happy...I like the way it is tho...THANX

What I wish would happen is that the evil "taking you to your post" screen would go away.

If you were going to do it to save on server load, it should be defaulted for everyone to not go back to the post after you reply. And if you want it as an option, you can change it back (because if you just add it as an option, most people won't change it).

Yeah, I've seen quite a few forums recently with the "taking you back to your thread, click here if it's taking too long" screen. It gets really old, because every single time I have to click the thing to make the page come up faster. Why not just let it load regularly without that page? I've never understood why some forums have this. Internet users realize that they're waiting; they don't need to be reminded. Is it some kind of coding issue? Hell, it may reduce server loads for all I know.
