Tilted Work

I have come here to find out what everyone thinks about certain things dealing with my work. It has been difficult to really find anything dealing with what I was looking for specifically. So what I was thinking is a section that would be dedicated to anything work related (e.g. best work boots, programs used for video editting), really anything.

I think that it would have the potential to bring people closer as a community to know people that do the same or similar jobs. There can be a trade of ideas and collective knowledge of other things that could help someone out with a problem they have at work. It could help people pool resources and find the best places to get things for work.

I think that a forum about work has a lot of potential, but maybe that is just me. I know that I would like to find out a lot of what others think about certain things I use and need for my work.

We've got a really wide array of professionals here. I'm a wholesale insurance broker, and I know that we have a construction manager, a chef (maybe more than one), a few video editors, scientists, grad students, small business owners and the unemployed. I don't see too many commonalities there - my job, for instance, is probably radically different than just about anyone else here.

Personally, I don't see anyone starting threads of this nature that would warrant a separate forum. If they did, it would be in Tilted Life, and I don't see much there. If you want to start threads and see if it catches on, we can look at it down the road, but I just don't see the need for it now, especially with so few threads devoted to work issues.

To summarize for The_Jazz: please post your new threads in Tilted Life - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community , unless you see a more appropriate subforum (such as http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/tilted-technology/ for your video editing question).

That is understandable. Then another thing would maybe create more variety to the areas, eg. under Tilted Life, have sub categories for work, school, and play. Something like that, it seems that there are a lot of threads out there that could be grouped into a more distinctive area of the "Tilted" sections.

DJK, I really don't see any benefit to subdividing Tilted Life. It seems like a lot of work (for us admins) with no real benefit for anyone. People are still going to use the search feature the majority of the time when they're searching for something specific.

As far as "threads that could be grouped in a more distintive area of the 'Tilted' sections", I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. Almost all of our sections have "Tilted" in the title, with the exceptions being General Discussion and Members Playground (which you don't have access to yet). It seems like you have something very specific in mind but for the life of me I have no idea what that is. Can you explain better?

Creating subforums isn't that big a deal except to our technology challenged admin Jazz. No knock on him as he is the first to make that same admission.

The bigger question is what is the benefit to making more forums? Most people should be using the search function to find things that they cannot by perusing the forums. I monitor what is being searched for and work boots comes dead last to panties and other keywords.

A couple of us have been trying to figure out how to have less forums but better post icons or even tags to help people find things easier.

Making more cubbie hole for people to look through is self defeating in this short attention span theater of the internet.

Too much specificity is not a good thing. We used to have a lot more sub-forums discussing various topics; the result of that was a whole bunch of lightly trafficked areas. It turns out that stuff like Health and Fitness, Pets and/or Needlepoint don't need their own areas; they can fit just fine in the areas we already have, and our member base just isn't big enough to support eleventy billion subforums and have a useful amount of traffic in each of them.

I'm not opposed to tags or icons, but that's as far as I would go in terms of subdivision.

We've Heard This Song Before.

I guess if we do not have the fan base then it wouldn't work out. I thought there were more people around then there is, so then a smaller "Tilted" area works.
