tilted, tilted, titled, tilted, tilted, tilted, tilted, tilted, tilted, etc.

...it's a little redundant imho lol. When I first joined, having to scan over the word 'tilted' in forum titles was a little headache-y. And it still is. Maybe it'd be cleaner with just, 'Music,' 'Politics,' 'Life,' etc.? I think having 'Tilted' used in the category headers would be fine though.

Also, how about a 'Health, Mind & Body' forum? It seems general health topics are scattered through Discussion, Sexuality and Life. Having them all in one forum might be a nice way to keep things clean? Some people may enjoy playing doctor by reading through and replying to threads of this nature. Granted, having the staff move all those threads would suck for them.

We used to have a Tilted Health or Fitness or some such - but it was underused and therefore removed.

Also if memory serves it was merged into tilted life, and those sorts of questions are to be directed there. If you find one in another forum I don't believe it would be inappropriate to ask a mod to move it.

Cynthetiq 08-07-2009 05:56 AM

tilted is our brand... not much different than a Mc

Aren't you guys assigned to particular forums to moderate? Wouldn't it be your gig to move the threads to where they belong instead of relying on members to let you know? I mean, if I'm not a moderator, then I'm definitely not going to act like one! It's just a suggestion I had is all.

Why isn't it in front of all forum titles then?

genuinegirly 08-07-2009 06:04 AM

Have you noticed the little red and white triangle under everyone's avatar? That's the "report post" button. If someone says something you feel is questionable, report it. If you feel a thread should be in another section, and it's bothering you, report it.

This board relies upon members to report indecent posts, PMs, blog entries, wall posts, and so on.

Just because we're here on the board every day, reading everything we can find, doesn't mean that we will catch everything. We're not likely to notice or care that someone is asking a weightloss question in general discussion. But if it bothers you, by all means report it with a note and we'll move it.

Cynthetiq 08-07-2009 06:11 AM

I just caught a spammer... no one reported him. it was simple but the moment you read it it's a spammer.

the point of us here is to not be like other forums. and to that point we don't want our members to be like they are at other forums.

the same reason why Mc isn't in front of every single product at McDonald's.

You all are seriously defensive instead of remaining open. So much for 'Tilted Suggestions.'

woodsie,

no particular moderator is assigned to any particular forum. we are just regular members here like everyone else here. we like posting as much as keeping an eye out for this place. at the same time, we dont catch everything or get to read every post and rely on our members to help us out.

like GG said, if you come across anything you think we need to look out for, then report it. it will help flag it up for us for one of the moderators to look into it. we pride ourselves on our members being the extra hand around here.

and for the record, not everything starts with a Mc at McDonalds

Really.. what is defensive here? You made one suggestion and you were informed that we tried it once and it was merged into Tilted Life.

But you go on to harp about our branding scheme, which was calmly explained. I'd like to add more to it though. Our forum naming scheme is designed to let people know what they should expect to be reading when they open the forum. This makes them bland in and of themselves, so we add the brand name to indicate our own little twist. We'd like to be viewed as a different kind of forum.

Then you comment on moderation methods, which were then calmly explained. I'd also like to add a bit more. Since the TFP's inception over 7 and a half years ago, it has been a self-policed community. Moderators exist for when administrative action needs to be taken (can't give EVERYONE delete/edit/ban permissions) but we rely on the community to bring various violations to our attention.

If you think these reasonings are off, come back with counter-points instead of telling us we're defensive. A good suggestion should stand up to justification.

Now that is a nice response lol. Thank you.

I don't see these health-related threads as inappropriate or questionable, therefore clicking on the 'little red and white triangle' is pointless, along with the attitude I've been shown. I made a suggestion. Obviously some mods got on the defense. I won't be suggesting again.

And yes, McD's doesn't have 'Mc' in front of everything because it's redundant. And that's my point lol.

Good day!

genuinegirly 08-07-2009 06:46 AM

For trying to be straight-to-the-point I've now been called defensive. Thanks, hon.

And rude.

Do you really think I'm a stupid ass? Do you really think I don't know what 'report post' means and what it's intended for? I fucking reported a bestiality image of an octopus up a girl's ass that remained posted for 3 1/2 hours. No one else reported it, because as soon as I did, Baraka Guru (or whatever,) got right on it. You're welcome!

[/thread]

genuinegirly 08-07-2009 07:00 AM

I'm glad you're willing to share your viewpoint with me on this matter.
I don't view you as stupid.
I didn't realize you had reported a bestiality post in the past.

Though I do recommend you edit your post there to remove the insults before someone else decides to give you an infraction for it.

I've always had a question about this. Do alot of people report things in threads? In other forums (which are NOT tfp) I never used a report button, I always felt like a "rat" or a tattle-tale. I always let Mods, who were picked because of their ability to make good judgments, decided if the post was against the rules or not. To boil it down, Halx makes the rules, Mods enforce them, I try not to break them. I never thought about it beyond that. I guess I just didn't want to try to step higher than the totem pole allows.

No, not enough people use the report function.

It's not there to rat on someone, it's there to alert. Maybe just let staff know that a thread is starting to get heated. Maybe to alter to a potentional underage or spammer. Maybe to say,"Clean up on aisle 4!" when something just goes off the deep end.

woods, I'd like to take the time to say before you accuse of being defensive, take a look yourself, since your posture in the posts are much more defensive than any of my explanations here. just an observation. and while you may say, "but i wasn't being snarky, just sarcastic!" remember, there's no body language here, just words on a computer screen.

Good day!

I'm not a mod, but it seems to me reporting a post via the report button, when it is clearly in the wrong forum is perfectly acceptable. It's also not like someone automatically gets in trouble for you reporting the post.

Helping the mods keep things organized around here certainly isn't pointless.

I was always under the impression that the members helping the mods when they can was an important part of this forum.

/dead horse

Cynthetiq 08-07-2009 07:16 AM

hektore that's a good example that I forgot to put up.

Many people use the New Posts function and they don't have any idea what forum something is posted in, this included staff.

I try very hard to comb through the first page so that I can move things over at elast every other day.

You can also think of it this way, this place is as nice as it is not only because people come here with different thought and can respect different viewpoints, but also because people care enough about the community to get involved. This means, getting involved in discussions to reporting posts for staff attention.

That's all that it does, it brings it to our attention. Sometimes you'll get a thank you from a mindful staff member for taking the initiative, sometimes you'll not hear anything back. Either way it's a good tool to use.

Hektore 08-07-2009 07:25 AM

Maybe we should add a "The Report Post Button" section to the intro & rules threads.

Of course maybe there already is one, and I've simply not read/remembered it.

*runs off to find the new users thread*

LordEden 08-07-2009 07:28 AM

What happens when you hit that button here? Do you have to fill anything out or does it just raise a flag in the admin side of things?

snowy 08-07-2009 07:29 AM

Perhaps I'm strange but I enjoy using the "Report Posts" feature. I like doing my part to help out the moderators and the community here. Think of it like picking up a piece of litter in a school hallway; sure, the janitor may be along later to do it, but why shouldn't you be nice and give them a hand?

Glory's Sun 08-07-2009 07:30 AM

try it..

it reports the post and allows you to comment on why you are reporting it if you feel the need to do so

You have the option of filling out a brief note if you'd like. Otherwise you can just hit submit. In either case we get an e-mail message saying you've reported a post and a new thread is created in mod-land to discuss the post that has been reported.

Since Snowy says she likes reporting things - and she often reports spam - I'll hunt one of hers down and give you a screen shot. Give me a minute or two to find one.

Of course. Look at the suggestions forum, do a search and you'll see that many ideas have been pitched. Some came to fruition. Some never see the light of day. Some were demanded over and over and over.. and the staff tried it out, even though our best judgment was to stay the course.

Here's a few that didn't make it... Tilted Pets, Tilted Health and Fitness, and Titled Marketplace. Heck we even had specific locations for those far flung around the world to discuss their own little sections.

These were demanded over and over, in the end, they didn't get much traffic nor did they generate many discussions.

Nothing looks like a crappy forum than dead forums that the last posted thread was months ago.

wooÐs 08-07-2009 11:58 AM

I'm not sure I follow -
...did I come off as demanding with my suggestions? Or have the same suggestions been made before by others?

I'll admit I didn't bother using the search function beforehand this time. Maybe I should have.

Cynthetiq 08-07-2009 12:08 PM

no, if you look you'll see you aren't the first to come up with this particular suggestion. if you look for TFP Pets, you'll see that it was demanded over and over. Look up TFP Men's Lounge, and you'll see the same thing as well.

The board is long in the tooth, so we've done many innovate and different things. some have been utter failures, and others been positive growths.

as far as the comments on the brand, well it's a little off putting to go to some friend's house and and point at the decor and claim it is tacky or off putting, which well, is about how I read the critique on tilted, tilted, tilted.

wooÐs 08-07-2009 12:16 PM

Well in that case, your avatar is very slimming.

The health and fitness bit has been done, it failed the mod test for keeping forums around, not that it wasn't entertaining.

/another suggestion, maybe we should add a "we tried it and it failed/Ain't gonna happen" section to the 'About this forum' sticky.

List the ideas that just aren't going to happen (aka Male equivalent to the Ladies Lounge), and the forums that were tried, didn't work and were then removed, like the regional forums and tilted health & fitness.

See, but 'Health and Fitness' is different from 'Health, Mind and Body.'

Personally, I'd be less likely to click on 'Health and Fitness,' as I don't like meatheads.

But 'Health, Mind and Body' could cover a much broader spectrum. Depression, heart disease, suicide, genital warts, pink eye, etc.

Moderators curse on this forum. If I really cared, I'd report the posts from now on.
Calling another member 'rude' is not a flame. Now if I called you a bitch or dumbass, I'd welcome the infraction.

and that's where this is about growth and evolution. you may be less inclined, but here you should be inclined. If you have preconceived notions before you even click on something that's just defensive posturing before you've even gotten a chance to be open minded to what might be lurking there.

and all those things you're talking about are covered by Tilted Life. gential warts is covered by Sexuality since it is considered an STD.

Sorry sorry sorry - one quick thing though.

Can you guys link me to this info? I was actually looking for infraction guidelines a while ago and couldn't find anything.

Hi... might I interject on the report post button?

In fromBasics dark, it's a little pale white thing that I couldn't see without my glasses that there was an exclamation point on it when I was trying to report the Nokia phone spammer earlier in the week. Now that I know where/what it is, I'm much more likely to use it.
And GG, if I accidentally reported you, I'm reeeeeeeally sorry. I hit the back button.

If a thread is started, could you include what it looks like in the different styles? TFP green makes my astigmatism go haywire.

Okay, I'm done.

we don't. why should there be? so that people can cherry pick to maximize how they will troll or aggravate someone before being banned?

this contains everything that a new member should know about how we expect our members to behave and be treated.

TFP Forum Guidelines

Welcome to the Tilted Forum Project. Our official founding date is January 20th, 2002. Since that day, the TFP has had one goal: to make the internet a wonderful place for thoughtful people. We know that you can go anywhere for funny pictures, advice, and discussion, but only the TFP provides a place for people to get genuine responses to real discussion on just about any subject. Its users regard it as the most mature forum on the internet and as a testament to this claim, it has been supported entirely through donations from its loyal members for the entirety of its existence.

In order to keep this place running smoothly, we've developed a few rules over the years. While never overbearing, these rules are in place to make your experience here a better, cleaner one. If you find anyone ever breaking the rules, please use the "Report Post" button that is located on each post or send a private message to a staff member.

It should be reminded that we encourage users to make full use of the forum and its topics. At the TFP, we do not judge a member's worth by their post count. Making quality posts and contributing to thoughtful discussion is the best way to make yourself known here. Please feel free to jump right in and add your two cents on any thread and we will accomodate you with an appropriate response.

  1. Standard Guidelines
    1. The Tilted Forum Project is intended to be a center of mature, intelligent and productive discussion. Any post that does not fit in with this ideal is subject to removal.
    2. To make this quick, here is what is not allowed: trolling, flaming, harassing, spamming, site plugging, advertising, advocacy (charities, polls, causes), immaturity (except in nonsense), images of minors (under 18), shocking images (gore, scat), other people's personal information, sexual advances without consent, and being a cunt in general.
      1. You are allowed to set any link you want as your homepage in your profile.
      2. You may link to your site in your signature ONLY if your site contains a prominent link back to the TFP.
      3. If you want to post a picture of a minor, either the picture must be a link, or the minor's identity must be obscured.
    3. You must be at least 18 years of age (in mind and body) to view and post on the TFP.
  2. Thread Starting Guidelines
    1. With the exception of a few specific forums, this site is centered around DISCUSSION and therefore all threads must have some conversational purpose.
    2. If an external resource (news article, story, image, etc.) is being posted for discussion, the thread starter must quote the relevant part of the content along with their own thoughts and opinions on the topic. That is to say, you can't just post a link or a quote without adding your own words.
    3. If possible, check to make sure that you're not starting a topic that is already being discussed. It is OK to rehash a topic that hasn't been covered in a while.
    4. Please follow up with your threads and post in them frequently. A good thread starter will tend to their replies to keep the discussion moving.
  3. User Permissions and Promotions

Can someone define "inappropriate" language? (in the context of getting an infraction)

wooÐs 08-08-2009 12:57 AM

I had no idea it was against any rule or anything. Nothing's posted about it in these guidelines. There's loads of cursing on the site. And I curse like a pissed Irishman yet have never been contacted by staff. Dunno what's up with that but it's maybe not enforced I guess?

SecretMethod70 08-08-2009 02:00 AM

Pretty sure that was just created as an option for unforeseen circumstances. Using racial epithets like nigger, chink, etc (outside of this current descriptive context) would be inappropriate language. You can keep posting shits, fucks, and asses to your heart's content ;)

Also, a note about the points we give for infractions: we don't advertise them 1) because, as Cynthetiq said, we don't want them to be abused, but also 2) because they are merely behind the scenes guidelines for the moderators. Context is important, and moderators are chosen for their judgment. If they feel a certain offense deserves more or fewer points, they are free to make that adjustment, so it would be inappropriate to advertise a set list of points given per type of infraction.

Halx 08-08-2009 06:12 AM

Basically, you're allowed to say any word you damn well please. It is the context you use it in that might cause some problems.

No shit. That's the way I've always fuckin' seen it. Not that I condone the use of profanity.

Meathed 08-08-2009 07:55 AM

maybe you should go out for a little while, get some ice cream or something.

Psycho Dad 08-08-2009 07:56 AM

How would that help? I don't even like ice cream.

wooÐs 08-08-2009 08:15 AM

I like this forum lol.

And some of the mods are great too. Thanks to those of you who hit me up to explain things a little better without having to talk down to me or what not.

Don't force me to make another suggestion thread on how it would be nice to see staff positions under user titles to know who's what :D.

Besides, admins never call when they promise they're going to...

:(

Psssssst.... look under the avatars ;)

wooÐs 08-08-2009 01:53 PM

ok

Halx 08-08-2009 02:08 PM

Not all features are shown in all styles.

wooÐs 08-08-2009 02:11 PM

There's an add-on you can install to include a second custom user title for staff members that will apply to all skins. Small images can be used instead of text too - like a button or whatever.

Just a suggestion. No big deal.

Halx 08-08-2009 02:16 PM

Bit more complicated than that. But as you may be observing, I am fixing it right now.

wooÐs 08-08-2009 02:32 PM

Right on! :)

Halx 08-08-2009 02:34 PM

The only style I really keep up to date is Insignia. Heh.

wooÐs 08-08-2009 02:39 PM

All the skins are nice. But dark is the easiest on mah eyes.

Thanks for the fix. It'll be a lot easier to learn who's who now.

SecretMethod70 08-08-2009 02:40 PM

Halx doesn't use TFP Green?! Scandal!

wooÐs 08-08-2009 05:11 PM

I just realized that the join date's now gone (for BlackSmart at least.) Is there any way to bring it back?

I swear, this woods bitch will never be satisfied.

SecretMethod70 08-08-2009 05:14 PM

Nope, join date is supposed to be gone. That's what you get for drawing Halx's attention ;) We don't like to display join date so that people don't make assumptions based on it.

Cynthetiq 08-08-2009 05:16 PM

fat change. nope. not going to happen.

it's not supposed to have been there, it should have been removed when we removed it from the other themes.

newbies should be treated with the same care and respect that old timers should be. In fact there was a time where, old timers would discard someone's post out of hand strictly because the person was new.

You mean like I've been doing all along?

I'm just glad I could help again lol.

Wait...

...all I have to do is click on a member's profile to see their join date. Does this need to be corrected too? lol

Cynthetiq 08-08-2009 05:28 PM

yep that's fine there. it's a few extra steps to click on the members profile and then look at the statistics tab.

yep, fat change. :) Half penny, two penny, gold Krugerrand

Xerxys 08-08-2009 05:31 PM

The get rid of user handles too because I e-profile all "uprights"!!!

No tabs -

http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/4731/bhj.jpg

Cynthetiq 08-08-2009 05:33 PM

still same... requires the person to leave the thread in some fashion...

wooÐs 08-08-2009 05:36 PM

Well as long as I can still make assumptions on members in regards to their join date, I'm good.

;)

---------- Post added at 09:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:35 PM ----------

Hey you joined on 4/20.

You must be a pothead.

Xerxys 08-08-2009 05:38 PM

 Ohhh man, I thought the same thing too some time back when I was looking at Cyns profile ... I have no idea why though. First I assumed he was a chick, then a pothead ...

wooÐs 08-08-2009 05:41 PM

I did too! I thought he was a she.
The handle is a little feminine, not to mention the kitties.

...NOT that there's anything wrong with that.

Moving forward, I don't have the option to change my user title. What do I need to do?

Cynthetiq 08-08-2009 05:41 PM

synthetic isn't a masculine or feminine word.

you need to post more...

wooÐs 08-08-2009 05:42 PM

So it's just up to staff when I'm allowed to change it? Or is there a number I need to reach?

Cynthetiq 08-08-2009 05:44 PM

why worry about it? why set it as a target or goal?

just post good thoughtful contributions :) it will happen when it does.

wooÐs 08-08-2009 05:46 PM

I'm not worried lol. I'd simply like to know when I'll be able to change it from 'Addict' to something else.

SecretMethod70 08-08-2009 05:46 PM

There's a number. I forget what it is exactly, but it's high. It's a minor perk for sticking around and contributing a lot. It will change from addict before then - there are a number of system titles to run through as you contribute more.

Xerxys 08-08-2009 05:47 PM

^^ What he's saying is stop posting "lol" or one liner zingers and maybe you'll be able to change it. Either that or sleep with a mod.

When you get to "junkie" you'll be able to change it.

wooÐs 08-08-2009 05:47 PM

SecretMethod70 08-08-2009 05:49 PM

Sleeping with a mod won't do anything, but free sex is always encouraged ;) We don't really have much control over it, it's just something that happens when a user's participation meets a certain set of criteria.

That helps - thanks.

It's definitely minor. I was just wondering.

PonyPotato 08-08-2009 05:52 PM

I'm interrupting this quickly moving thread to plug TFP chat.

I'm in there a lot lately.. and I'm chatty. Come hang out!

You may now return to your regularly scheduled postings.

Punk.of.Ages 08-09-2009 12:23 PM

So, now that you've changed the BlackSmart theme to show who's an admin/mod, I have a question. Is there any way we can make that optional. Much for the same reason you guys don't like join dates displayed, I enjoyed not knowing who was in charge when they post. That was one of the main reasons I used the BlackSmart theme. When I needed an admin/mod I'd just use the "Forum Leaders" button.

Halx 08-09-2009 12:46 PM

Just can't win...

Punk.of.Ages 08-09-2009 02:33 PM

If it's not doable, it's no big deal. I just enjoy not knowing who the mods are.

However, sleeping with an admin will.

I'm happily married, but I'll look out for the other guys. And Smeth has a really cute girlfriend, too.

Just so you know... ;)

lol@edit

It has nothing to do with the word 'synthetic.' It's the spelling you use. When I first read your username, I assumed your real name was 'Cynthia' and you just twisted it up a bit.

Don't take any offense to it. I'm mistaken for a man occasionally. But that's just because my penis is enormous.

I'll work on some black and whites later today.

lol

Xerxys 08-09-2009 11:57 PM

Punk.of.Ages, I will ship you the badge and title documantation of resident creep-o ...

Phew ... load off chest!

Punk.of.Ages 08-09-2009 11:59 PM

I'll show you a load that involves your chest, Xerxys...

We're getting off track here, guys! How about that optional showing of admin/mod capability?! Is that a no-go?

By the way, Xerx, I love you...

Xerxys 08-10-2009 12:03 AM

That's the load I was speaking of P.o.A, ...My chest is not big enough or "supple" for the bosoms to be loaded on ... Hence you take up job.

So, to get back on track, TFP, when can I get my severance package?

Punk.of.Ages 08-10-2009 12:05 AM

I know you only weigh like 118 lbs., Xerx. I'm okay with that...

You get no severance package. You are not worthy!

Xerxys 08-10-2009 12:07 AM

Are you kidding me??? Not worthy? I'm the creepy thin guy who gets no sun and sits on the computer all day chatting up facebook chicks!! I go as far as wearing pantyhose and lipstick ... I creep out the girls on TFP ... and you claim my time here has not well been served ...???

PREPOSTEROUS!! I could outcreep anyone who dare walks the halls of the internet!!
