Can we have a Guy's only area? *PNSFW*

I lurked into the "Scent of a Woman" thread, sorry. I had some things to say. Can we have a Guy's area that isn't, ya know, crude?

Plan9 06-09-2009 09:21 PM

...that's like asking if there can be a special place in America for white people.

Martian 06-09-2009 10:13 PM

Yeah, no.

Been discussed to death. Not happening.

No it's not. But the answer is still no.

If men want a "safe" place to discuss men's issues, they simply need to kindly request that women not participate. But there are no guarantees.

Glory's Sun 06-10-2009 05:24 AM

We've been down this road many times. There really isn't a need for a men's only section. If you look at the numbers, men outweigh the women here 10 to 1 (I'm guessing). With that being said, men can discuss whatever they want how they want, but they may get a female perspective. I see nothing wrong with that, as we all know, we need a female perspective in most cases. If you have something to say in the LL, then you can easily PM a female mod with your thoughts and they will be happy to post it in the LL for you.

Shell 06-10-2009 06:21 AM

...i understand, wyodiver, how you feel about wanting to say something in the "scent of a woman" thread and not being able to. I would love to hear a man's perspective there too but i also understand why it's not allowed...especially since there are fewer women here.

...but I'll bet there is a certain fragrance that men have smelled on a special lady that lingers in their memory...i would love to know what that is myself...in fact, i'm sure all the ladies would like to know. But then most men probably wouldn't know the name of it.

...if any men have a name of a fragrance that lingers on in their memory as being something very special on a woman, then feel welcomed to PM me with it and I'll mention it in the "scent of a woman" thread. I know the ladies would love to know.

You know better than I do; you're a white man with assets. :)

Poppinjay 06-10-2009 09:09 AM

My penis itches to the right, does that mean I fucked Shaq, or Kobe?

Otherwise I'm comfortable with the itch. I think it's mostly due to rampant bus station restroom bouncies.

Any advice or fantasies like mine?

gucci outlined the procedure that the board has been following for a while:
If a male member would like to contribute to a thread in the Ladies Lounge, he may do so by private messaging a female moderator, who will then decide whether or not his contribution is relevant to the discussion taking place. And a guy doesn't really need to PM a female moderator, per se--I know other long-time ladies have volunteered to accept PMs from guys who want to contribute. Identifying information may be removed, too.

It really depends on the thread and the contribution. We've had some great contributions from guys via PMs in the LL over the years, offering their perspective.

Right! Next Cromps will demand a smooth-spotted-individuals' area... It's all downhill from there.

Such places do exist:

FelixP 06-10-2009 11:19 AM

That would be a fucking sausage party.

Personally, I prefer female input from time to time; it helps to know what the other sex is thinking. I'd rather have female input than male input on a girl problem(usually).

Wyodiver33 06-10-2009 11:28 AM

Ok, I get it. Sorry I brought it up. Got my first ever TFP warning because of this. Well, that was because I posted it in the wrong place, my fault. But still, sorry I brought it up.

Funny story: We were at an amusement park a month or two ago, and there was a cheerleading competition happening there that same day. So there were hundreds upon hundreds of cheerleaders crowding up the joint.

Waiting in line for a ride, I started a conversation about what the inverse of a sausagefest is. If it's all girls, what do you call that?

I believe we came up with the new canonical answer, but I open it up to your thoughts before giving it to you. What's the term for the Ladies Lounge that's of similar "dude"itude as the term "sausagefest"?

I love "clambake," but how about "clitfest?"

...thank you for the slap on the hand...i wasn't aware that there was a chain-of-command for accepting PMs so i will leave that up to the moderators from now on. I did read the outlined procedures when i first came on board (still rather new here) but i didn't interpret it as all-exclusive for moderators only. Since i was the one that started the thread, "Scent of a Woman", i feel a bit of responsibility for it and was just offering a listening ear for wyodiver as a friendly gesture. It won't happen again... :rose:

What you took from my statement was not at all what I meant by it.

What I meant was that we've been doing this for a while now, and I was affirming that there is some space for men to participate in the LL, if the ladies are willing to let them into the sandbox. As far as I'm concerned, all ladies are in some capacity gatekeepers to said sandbox, especially if the thread in question is one they've created. You're more than welcome to include Wyodiver's contributions if you think they're relevant to your OP and the purpose of your thread.

For the record, I am not a moderator. I've just been here a really long time. So what I say could be completely irrelevant; they're really just my observations. :) And Shell, I appreciate your contributions to the board, especially the Ladies Lounge. We can always use more voices in that space and elsewhere on the TFP.

Shell 06-10-2009 01:35 PM

...thank you snowy...no problem...see you there

silvertiger 06-10-2009 01:44 PM

Guys only area .. what more is needed? we have discussions about everything, eroitic areas, all that jazz. if you're too afraid to say guy things in front of everyone, then you're likely pretenting to be manly and don't want anyone to call your bluff. lol

from what I nkow the forums is all about being you, and not an act :)

This was a real nice clambake...

Sorry, couldn't resist. Happens to be the worst song from my favorite old-time musical.

FuglyStick 06-10-2009 06:54 PM

Really, just find another board to talk about man stuff without the women. They're out there.

The_Jazz 06-11-2009 05:14 AM

As one of those folks that makes these sorts of decisions, I have never heard any reason that's even marginally acceptable for why we need this kind of area. What EXACTLY do you want to say that you don't want female input on? Because that's what setting up a "Men's Lounge" would be: women could read but not participate. And you're looking for that exactly why?

If it's better to do it via PM, mine's always open. So are Halx's and Cynthetiq's.

Some examples would include men who were sexually abused by their mothers as children, recently divorced men who have just lost custody of their children, or men currently in abusive relationships.

There is a reason why counselling services will ask clients whether they'd rather a male or female counsellor.

I think the problem is that, theoretically, a men's area would be used for these things only on rare occasion. I don't think there is enough outside of these kinds of issues to justify a men's area otherwise. Men's issues tend to be glossed over anyway.

I don't see any real reason for an entire area.

ShaniFaye 06-11-2009 05:41 AM

heck, I'm almost of the opinion we set one up to see what people would put in there

Glory's Sun 06-11-2009 06:29 AM

I know what would be in there.

"My gf/wife caught me with porn!"

"How can I shave my dick?"

"I totally railed this bitch last night"

"my gf/wifes pussy has a funny smell"

"BOOBS!"

"I need sex..what do I do?"

etc etc etc

I don't know what could possibly go into a specialized forum like that for men that wouldn't involve sex. On top of that I can't fathom how any of the responses would dictate having it's own forum.

Women over think things and have lots of .. "issues" that only need a female perspective. Men on the other hand tend to act first and think later. Other than prostate cancer or bitch tits.. I just can't think of topics that would not help having a female perspective.

The_Jazz 06-11-2009 06:48 AM

We have threads, sometimes multiple threads, for each of those topics already, gucci. And B_G, I searched for threads like the ones you described and couldn't find any at all. It could be that I suck at searching, or it could be a lack of men wanting to discuss those topics.

But if such a thread were started with the instructions "men only", I see no reason why the staff wouldn't make sure that those instructions weren't followed.

And you've reached the same conclusion that I have, so here we are.

Plan9 06-11-2009 10:10 AM

Pfft... two points:

- Men are already in charge by majority.
- Men don't have feelings, they have urges.

I'll agree on the "worst song" portion for Carousel, but if I never see another R&H musical again, it'll be too soon. (I was Enoch Snow in that show, BTW.)

The_Jazz 06-11-2009 10:59 AM

And now this thread has everything. It should be moved to the HoF.

Staff pile-on: check
Crompsin participation: check
Crazy out of context quotes: check plus

Don't feel bad for any suggestion!

At least this one we had fun with. And hey, B_G put us in our place by reminding us that there really are men's issues that women shouldn't comment about.

You come home every night in your round-bottomed boat with a net full of herring from the sea?

I agree - hall of fame. But it needs to have at least a couple more pages of nonsense. Where are Ring, Jetee and BadNick when you need them??

Wyodiver33 06-11-2009 02:46 PM

Wow. It was just an idea. I don't feel strongly for it, even. I've been on the TFP for many years and never caused this much of a sh@t storm. Can we just forget about it?
