who'll win the WORLD SERIES

I know it's way to early to tell but i want to hear your predictions i

for me, i really want to say the Royals but i just think they are on a lucky streak so im going to have to say Giants over Yankees in 6.

gov135 04-20-2003 09:08 AM

That question is like asking "who has the best pitching in baseball"

Answer - the Yankees. I'm no Yankees fan, but they got incredible pitching, so I say Yankees over St. Louis in six.

GuttersnipeXL 04-20-2003 09:09 AM

Mmmmm....Yankees over the Giants in 5!!

Dr.Who 04-20-2003 09:38 AM

If I have tu put my money on a team right now, the safe bet is Yankees. Geez, look at those pitchers. Come on, come on, can you hear that money talk?

goddfather40 04-20-2003 10:50 AM

As much as I hate them and even though it's early, the Giants are simply unstoppable right now. I definitely see the Giants making some noise in October again, but hopefully the Angels win it again!

forseti-6 04-20-2003 01:12 PM

I'm a big yankee fan, and really think this may be the best team they have had in a long time. Their hitting is just absolutely incredible. Their starting pitching is really great also. Just not very comfortable with their bullpen. But when Mariano Rivera and Steve Karsay come back - I think they will be unstoppable.

The cubs have a much better staff than the Yankers. I say the yankees get lucky to get past first round. I also say the cubs win it all this year.

Pirates over Devil Rays in seven

shotofwine 04-20-2003 04:48 PM

as you stated yourself, way to early to tell.
who looks like contenders from my pov:
Yankees and they should with a pay roll of 150 million.
Red Sox, being a Red Sox fan I know they won't win and will choke sometime during the season.
Angels, Mariners, A's - AL West is brutal
I don't like anyone from the AL Central to do any damage come play-off time.
Giants, Dodgers, D-Backs - almost as tough as the AL West
Astros, Cardinals - I like the Astros here with all the injuries the Cardinals are going through.
Phillies - I don't really see anyone else competing with the Phillies in the NL East.

my best guess at this date would be the A's and Phillies.
A's beating the Yankees and Phillies beating the Giants.

Cubs only have a chance if they manage not to die after midseason. This seems to happen every year, strong start and by midseason, they just lay down and die.

reconmike 04-20-2003 05:12 PM

bosox vs. cubbies one of those cities will be burnt down

Crazy_Man 04-20-2003 05:24 PM

If the Expos get some quality pitching, we are going far this year, I say one or 2 games out of the playoffs :o

They have a chance but you never know. I do now I hate the way Baseball playoff is, it should have more teams, cause anyone can win (look at Detroit losing to Anaheim), in baseball with the amount of wins that Anaheim would of had, they would of never made it. Just my two cents really

EXPOS!!!!!!!!!!!

Good ol Dusty won't let that happen. He has these guys primed. I just hope Grudzy and Gonzalez keep hitting like they've been hitting. Choi is a stud. Sosa needs to be traded while his name is hot for a couple great young prospects.

bond007 04-20-2003 09:54 PM

if their pitching staff can remain relatively healthy... Yankees.

MikeyChalupa 04-21-2003 11:25 AM

Yankees over either Philly or SF.

Hey Cubs... in October, let's see who is hoisting another pennant and who is making excuses and waiting until next year, okay? That goes for Red Sox fans too. If either team from Chitown makes it into the playoffs, it'll be the White Sox, and they had better start beating teams like the Royals if they want that to happen.

MikeyChalupa 04-21-2003 04:53 PM

But if they do, then we get to hear 29 other teams' fans bitch about how they waah waah bought the series and it isn't waah waah fair? Sorry, can't have it both ways.

I think the New York Rangers and Washington Redskins proved that you can't "buy" championships, just like the Anaheim Angels proved that you don't have to. You have to pay your free agents, yes, but you also have to make smart personnel moves, develop young talent, not trade it away like the Yanks used to, and chose players that will complement each other and play well together.

-Mikey

reconmike 04-21-2003 05:01 PM

Sorry but the Florida Marlins Proved you CAN buy a championship.

the Redskins were still under a cap and the Rangers are just a friggen joke.

The evil empire is doing nothing illegal, but with an extra 50-70 million alot of other teams in baseball would win a world series also.

sierra2774 04-21-2003 05:39 PM

The Pirates are looking good!

edmos1 04-22-2003 10:59 AM

Cubs fans, they do have a great rotation, and if Sammy can shake some helmet out of his ear he should be back to normal. Plus you have to figure they were a pre season favorite to go to the playoffs. That being said, Yanks look good, those deep pockets seem to be working. As for the Giants, they were picked to be # 3 in the NL west, starting to prove some people wrong

Zesty 04-22-2003 12:16 PM

Toronto Blue Jays

teflonian 04-22-2003 02:28 PM

I can't make an unbiased decision as I am way too much a Giants fan. So, I vote for the Giants. They do after all have a good chance, almost as good as any team in baseball. Though, that is not really waht influences my decision. :)

buffto 05-21-2003 12:43 AM

it'd be funny to see cubs versus white sox, since neither of them have won anything in a damn long time. The last cubs world series was like 1920s?

KeyserSoze 05-21-2003 06:21 AM

The Yankees??? Are you serious??? Hell they got swept by the RANGERS....bwhahahahahahahahhaha.

And how about all that cash Steiny paid for Contrerras, 5,500,000. for a 15.5 ERA.......LMFAO

Since May the Yankees are just an average team, and I REALLY HOPE they don't even make the playoffs.

THE HALOS will repeat!!!

rogue49 05-22-2003 06:36 AM

Yankees
but then again I'm a Yankees fan, so I'm biased.
That being said, they've got a great lineup, the money & the spirit.
The always seems to go right to the end in the recent years,
so if anything they are a SERIOUS contender.

Glory's Sun 05-22-2003 07:31 AM

In the matter of money yes it can help... the yankees proved that. But you have to know how to spend your money well, if you don't then you end up like the Mets. They suck and they have the second highest payroll in the majors.

Oblivious to what I've just said I'm taking the Boston Red Sox

homerhop 05-22-2003 08:04 AM

Why is it called the world series when its only played in America?

crackpot 05-24-2003 07:24 PM

I'm liking the way the Expos are playing. So I'll go with them. Safe bet, it ain't... but that'll make it all the sweeter when they make it to the finals.

VirFighter 05-24-2003 07:51 PM

Atlanta Braves. They are playing pretty good baseball despite the loss to the Mets the other night.

Then again, I'm biased though.

godukehoops 05-26-2003 02:51 PM

the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Oakland Athletics.

hughjarse 05-29-2003 04:57 AM

My question is: Why is it called the world series, what other countries compete?

bundy 06-01-2003 07:05 PM

canada and the US play, isn't that the world?

da' braves. they've finally got some power in their lineup. that'll make all the difference and they'll win the series.

Reacharound 06-09-2003 11:21 PM

If those old bastards like Martinez, Olerud, Moyer, etc. can stay healthy I'd take the Mariners. Braves got a shot too. I'd say Giants even, but only if Nen comes back in September like he says he will.

eyeseepeedude 06-13-2003 04:00 AM

I would have to say that the Braves are tearing it up right now, and are my favorite for the Series. The only reason I'm cautious about saying that is this: I've been a Braves fan since '89 (*back when they still sucked*). I've seen them with a losing record, I've seen them go from last in the division to first within a month. I've even seen them go to multiple World Series'. But they've only won ONCE... what an utter disappointment. You just HAVE to keep telling yourself... "This time is different..." :)

trent98 06-30-2003 08:43 AM

absolutely the cubs, theyve only been losing a few lately because of a few burps in an otherwise flawless bullpen.

eagle1 06-30-2003 02:12 PM

Mariners over the Braves in SIX

Barring any major injuries to our senior players.

BigGov 06-30-2003 02:54 PM

Diamondbacks. On a roll, and they're only going to get better with two of the best pitchers in the league coming back soon.

Quant 06-30-2003 06:47 PM

I like the Astros in NL Central, but I'm not sure they can beat the Giants.
The Yankees will run into problems if they keep playing like textbook Red Sox (I'm a Sox fan, so I can say that).

Red Sox all the way, until they choke, clearly.

Memalvada 07-01-2003 10:32 PM

THE GIANTS!!!

sportsrule101 07-02-2003 10:36 AM

mariners = world series ring
yankees = 160 million less

richeee 07-06-2003 08:59 AM

Mariners over Dodgers in 7!

livingitup101 07-07-2003 06:37 AM

The A's or Mariners over St. Louis in 6.

Brian Fellows 07-23-2003 12:27 AM

I hoping the Royals make it, but at least i hope the Yankees lose in the first round again.

Mr Scorcex 07-23-2003 09:05 AM

I'm goin with Red Sox over the Cubs in 6 games, becuase it's about damn time for one of those teams and because I'm a huge boston fan.

cliffxpro 07-23-2003 02:44 PM

I'd love to see a repeat of 1985, but I'll settle for the Royals just getting the AL Central Pennant. Anything after that is just icing on the cake.

Bobaphat 07-23-2003 06:53 PM

Mariners over Atlanta

Jdermit101 07-23-2003 08:43 PM

The answer is: Cubs

superhaun 07-24-2003 11:24 AM

The Braves... Or I think they will at least make it to the worls series. If they don't choke, they may win. Their bats are swinging like they were in the Justice years. We don't have a "Series" pitching staff, but as long as we can hit the longball, and give them some runs to play with, than I don't see why this can't be their year! and then again, If they don't choke!!

SysteMatiC 07-24-2003 02:51 PM

I would have to go with san fran.

djflish 07-25-2003 10:10 AM

bundy,
just cos canada and the us are involved, it hardly justifies it being called the 'world' series

dogma13554u 07-28-2003 07:10 PM

anybody else still thinking the cubs have a late season comeback left in them? GO CUBBIES!!!!

iceman2032 07-28-2003 09:29 PM

The Giants, in 5 games

denton 07-29-2003 01:44 AM

True, it's not the World Cup, where most countries send a team to compete, there are only two countries providing teams. But Major League Baseball players hail from many countries. 30 percent of ALL major leaguers come from Latin America. Right now, 50 PERCENT of the minor league system is from Latin America. On many team's 25-man rosters, American-born players make up only about half of the team. Just one example:

12 of 25 "Yankees" were born outside the 50 states. 4 Dominicans (Soriano, Mondesi, Benitez, Wilson), 3 Puerto Ricans (Williams, Sierra, Posada), 2 Mexicans (Garcia, Osuna), 1 Panamanian (Rivera), and 1 Japanese (Matsui). Plus there's a Cuban (Contreras) on the DL right now, not part of the 25 man roster.

By the way, Merrie Olde England has provided 32 players to the majors Since 1871. No offense, but none were any good. The most recent was Lance Painter, a relief pitcher for Colorado, St. Louis, Toronto and Milwaukee from 1993-2001.

-Mikey

iceman2032 07-29-2003 11:12 AM

For all of those that forgot, The Giants!!!!

Dang 07-29-2003 03:39 PM

In a shocking move...after losing the World Series, the Yankees buy the trophy and title from Peter McGowan and the Giants for 200 million and prospects.

Seriously..the whole payroll argument is played out. I think it's bad for baseball, yeah..but money had only allowed the Yankees to keep the players they either brought through their farm system or traded for.

B.Williams
D. Jeter
M. Rivera
A. Pettite
J Posada
N. Johnson
A. Soriano (purchased rights, then spent short time in minors)
All players from their farm system

J Weaver
R. Clemens
R. Mondesi
E. Wilson (originally aquired via trade, came back to Yanks for less than market value)
D. Wells (again trade, then came back for less than what he was offered by Arizona)
A. Benitez
These guys were traded to the Yanks

M. Mussina
J. Giambi
H. Matsui
J. Contreres
C. Hammond
A. Osuna

Free agents
