Boston based firm offers to buy NHL clubs -- scratch that ALL of them
Yea, here's a link to the story:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2003701 this is weird as hell. They're offering $3.5 billion for all of the clubs and the scary thing is the NHL actually LISTENED to this. I know there are some owners who wouldn't go for it so I'm not counting on this deal happening but its interesting none the less. |
Toronto fans would *never* let their team be owned by an American firm...
There were would be revolting in the streets... |
At this point I'd consider almost anything if it guaranteed me that there would be hockey next fall. I'm so sick and tired of this lockout... It's bad for the players, it's bad for the owners, it's bad for the fans, it's just bad for the game. If agreeing to a deal like this will get it done, I definitely think they should consider it. If the current owners and players don't like it, well then GET A DEAL DONE.

This is a bullshit move. Not that it would be a bad thing, but this is a deal made public to scare the players into making a deal on the Salary Cap.
For this deal to go fwd EVERY team owner would have to go for it, sure the owners of the Flames and/or the Nasville Whatevers would be happy to take their $90 mil and run... but it's pretty unlikely that Toronto or Detroit would ever get the $200 mil they'd be asking for. This would never work with 3 or 4 "indy" teams. So if anything this is planned to scare the players, cause if it did ever work the players would see a huge drop in Salaries and there would be nothing they could do about it. Not getting paid well enough by your small market team Iginla? Too bad, the large market teams have the same owner. Anyway, I think it would be cool as it would make the leauge more competitive... but it's far to improbable. |
gotta agree with the_marq. This is just a scare tatic to try and force a deal on the unions part. I don't think any one would be dumb enough to actually take this deal.

u can always count on me (and my corny sense of humour). My friends literally roll their eyes when i start in on one of my jokes... |
I think it was Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio who said:
"If you put an El Camino in the paper and someone calls and offers you $400,000 for it, you take it." -Mikey |
I don't think any Canadians and those few American/International people that love hockey would go for it. Its a complete mochary to sell the NHL, but as I see it now, the NHL makes themselves look like a good joke in every sense of the word.
