just saw the news across the crawler on Channel ten...(Local kings broadcaster)....

In Petrie we trust....I just can't say how we will be better off.

Back to Mediocreland I fear.

I think the Kings could have gotten more, but this is a decent trade. Foremost, I want to mention that I think Webber is underrated, he puts up fantastic numbers and competes hard, usually resulting in wins for his team. Fans and commentators seem bored/spoiled with his play. I like Kenny Thomas, but he is still a clearly inferior player to Webber, and he has a hearty price. Big Nasty still has a couple years left and Skinner essentially does too. That’s the negative. On the flip side, Thomas is a starter, and the other two are competent players, who can log productive minutes.

As the article indicates, the Kings weren't trying to free up space, because the contracts they took on equal the remainder of Webber's salary. I don't know if the actual cap numbers they acquired free up space to sign Mobley to a deal this off-season, and I don't know if that is even in their plans. I would think they would like to, hopefully this creates space if their wasn't any before. That is just speculation on my part though.

At first, I thought this was a terrible deal, but it is making some sense to me:

-Thomas rebounds well, can hit the midrange jumper similar to Webber
-Skinner gave the Bucks 10 and 7 as a starter last year, respectable numbers
-Big Nasty is a good scorer
-Supposedly, this may change Pea’s mind about leaving, and he was second in the league scoring last year, with most of his damage done in Webber's absence.

Sacramento was playing good ball earlier in the year, but have been on a little skid as of late. Ownership/management obviously thought a change would be best.

I've never liked Chris Webber, and I think that when he's not 100%, he hurts his team more than helps. I will admit though, that when he's not under pressure, he plays the game better than 99% of the players out there. There is a reason, though, why we call him Mr. Choke.

Since Philly already has AI, C-Webb makes that team a serious fuckin' threat. The Kings got pretty much shit in return. 3 role-players in exchange for a huge name and 2 role players. I am laughing on the inside.

Since Peja is the one who asked to be traded, I think he's the one they should have traded. The Kings are now putting the future of their team on the shoulders of a guy who didn't even want to play for them. If it was just because of Webber taking away his shots, what does that say about Peja's selfishness and unwillingness to sacrifice for the team? In the end, of course, it was probably all about money with Peja on a bargain bin contract and C-Webb with the opposite of a bargain bin contract.
I think the Sixers instantly go from playoff hopefuls to contenders in the East while the Kings go in the opposite direction in the West. You can't make such drastic changes to your team midseason and expect everything to gel on the fly.

As bad as Webber was under pressure, Peja is even worse. He makes a marshmallow look like an anvil on steroids.

The Sixers must be guffawing heartily at this. Give up three struggling role players and get a superstar in return. Terrible trade for the Kings.

well at least one team in the east made a big move, damn cavs and there great trade. I hope this time next week we are not talking about webber and AI fighting

Yeah... right that would be a laugh if Ivo and C Webb start feuding after how much allen has talked the trade up.... He is exstatic to have a fellow superstar on the team. Big dog just wasn't cutting it I guess :lol: They are going to be huge in the Alantic now.

How the Kings are better out of this is that they were having trouble moving Webber, which they had to if they wanted to keep Peja. So, now they have 3 decent to good players, who they can now trade as needed. And they are no longer on the hook for $62 million to a man with a bum knee.

Brad Miller, Peja, Bibby, Jackson... still sounds like a great line up to me.

The Kings played very well without Webber last year. When he came back, Peja wasn't as much of a force, and often deferred to Webber. This could be an example of addition by subtraction for the Kings. The trade should work out well for both teams. The Kings still have a great lineup, and they have some good depth. The Sixers almost locked themselves up the 3 seed in the East, with the chance of getting something rolling over the next 20-30 games. That said... GO PISTONS!

The sixers are going to be a definite threat to the Pistons in the east, but I still don't see any other team except the Miami Heat facing them in the conference finals. Maybe next year, after C-Webb and the Answer have gelled a little better. I had no idea this trade was going to happen, the only thing I had heard was Peja for Odom, but that never materialized.

I didn't really understand the jist of this trade. The Kings didn't do two major things usually done with trading a superstar: Freeing up cap room and/or getting defensive help. I agree with "betula" that this could be addition by subtraction of for the Kings as Peja didn't really groove with Webb anymore and they werent even playing that well with webb. One thing is for sure, Webb has a better chance to go deeper in the playoffs now that he is in the east, versus with the Kings in the west.

I hope we see Cavs vs. Sixers in playoffs - how fun would that be?

Has anyone noticed that the fans in philly have started to boo C-Webb? I personally do not think the trade was a bad deal for the kings. They were able to DUMP tons of caps space, and Webber, even though I love the guy, has not been as productive since his knee surgery. The Kings are going no where this season in the playoffs, if they make the second round, they are over acheiving. However, they are in better shape to try and make a run at Peja'. Everyone knows Peja' and Webb were not on the same page, and Peja' was asking for a trade b/c of Webbers asanine comments last year, after the playoffs. I still do think Peja' will become a Laker. Brother Vlade, is supposedly in the mix for a LA front office job, and who do you think would be able to lure Mr. Predrag from Sac-town, into shit town?
Anyway, getting back to the trade. Petrie has now allowed himself to acquire more talent due to the availability of cap space. Petrie is a very smart person, and if the Malloof boys allow him to spend some cash, I have faith they can rise from the ashes. Sure, the team is not as good as it was two to three years ago, but atleast there not as bad as the Lakers.

As a Sixers fan, are you still happy with the trade? I would like to get your prospective, now that the dust has settled, and you have seen C-Webb play with your team. As a fan, C-Webb will thrill you, but when it comes down to those intense, need to have games, he will ripp your heart out. Believe me, I have had to endure the last seven years as a Kings fan.
