TFP SUPER BOWL Pool discussion thread

Well one more day and it is here!

NCB 02-05-2005 10:52 AM

I'm hoping for a great game. I know in years past, there have been matchups that on paper should have been great games, but instead turned into snoozer. This year's matchup reminds me of such. I hope I'm wrong.

And oh, go Pats!

The_wall 02-05-2005 11:58 AM

Go Patriots!

Maybe it's because I'm a Pats fan and I'm biased, but I've loved every super bowl they've been in (that I've seen) even the one they lost to the Packers in.

Lost to the Packers....Awww yeah :)

Anyway, is it just me, or does it seem like people aren't as excited about the game this year. It might just be the people I hang out with, but no one seem to into it. Not to mention this thread had only 2 replies....

Oh well. Guess I will throw in a Go Patriots!

Rdr4evr 02-06-2005 02:43 AM

That's because people are sick of the Patsies....

What time did the pregame programming start on Fox, 10 a.m.?

The_wall 02-06-2005 12:15 PM

I can understand people getting sick of the patriots, but I've been a patriots fan since I was a toddler so I'm loving this success the patriots have been having. But people always get sick of great teams winning.

Halx 02-06-2005 12:28 PM

I still don't know who to root for. I may root for Philly just to spite the loud-mouthed asshole who was badgering his friends about the fact that "THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE PATRIOTS ARE GOING TO LOSE" who I overheard (couldn't help...) on the train.

Esen 02-06-2005 12:48 PM

ack! nooo
I really hope the Pats win,

I have them picked for teh TFP bowl

gonadman 02-06-2005 01:34 PM

Too many Patriot fans on this thread...

GO EAGLES!!!

No one gives the Eagles any respect. If McNabb is hot, Pats don't stand a chance...

roadkill 02-06-2005 01:37 PM

im going for the eagles just soley cause im sick of the patriots, hey you never know the eagles may have a chance of winning ^_^

I don't know, It would seem if you're going to root for a team to spite loud mouthed assholes you might reconsider.

Nope, from egs avatars....unless you're talking about the game...which I've never played.

I think I'm going to pass on the half-time show...7-7 game.....LETS GO PHILLY!!!!

spongy 02-06-2005 05:17 PM

If the Eagles can hold onto the ball.. avoid anymore turnovers, and use Kearse and Burgess to contain Dillon and pressure Brady, The Pats will lose.

7up at the half.. we shall see soon.

underdog 02-06-2005 05:38 PM

I can handle the Eagles winning, as long as Owens does'nt score.

Esen 02-06-2005 07:01 PM

Esen 02-06-2005 07:17 PM

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

n0nsensical 02-06-2005 07:19 PM

Hellz yeah, I totally predicted them 45 points!! Everthing else...well...just about the exact opposite. Though I don't know what the toss and first ad were since I refuse to watch the crapfests before and at the halftimes of major sporting events. Boston is becoming the new New York of sports.

Rdr4evr 02-06-2005 07:21 PM

*yawn* You would think the game is fixed with the way the stupid morons wasted time in the final two drives. Everyone could look forward to hearing "dynasty" non-sense that started with the snowjob for the rest of the year. Turnovers, stupid decisions, moronic play-calling...good job Philly. Another boring Patsie win, I could hear the crickets chirping.

Cross-Over 02-06-2005 07:29 PM

McNabb's 62% completion percentage is misleading. Three of his incompletions were for INT's (one of which took points off the board and another stalled a great drive in NE territory). In addition, he threw several more near INT's and a lot of just bad balls. Poor game by his standards.

The Eagles D gave up big plays and were horrendous on defending the screen pass. I counted at least four 1st downs that they gave up on screen passes.

Patriots: Great throws by Brady, big plays on defense, the usual recipe for a Super Bowl victory. Oh yeah, I forgot, add a touch of good running game to that recipe.

BonesCPA 02-06-2005 07:35 PM

Congratulations Chauncey. You have won the TFP Bowl Trophy (tm). After a long season you have bested them all.

Also Congratulations to MacGuyver. With 80 points, he was the best of the players in the TFP Bowl. All MacGuyver missed was the coin toss and the first team to score. Well done.

Esen 02-06-2005 07:50 PM

Thank you very much Bones!

DIdn't I have 80 points as well?

It was a great season

Spartak 02-06-2005 07:59 PM

The fact that it wasn't a blowout makes me feel like I've got some sort of moral victory.

your anti-Patriots sentiments are so boring. Your team doesn't win anymore, stop being bitter. After a while it's just an annoying buzz.

Rdr4evr 02-06-2005 08:19 PM

bla bla bla, i don't talk to people from "pats country"....and you want to talk about boring? Please.

RogueHunter65 02-06-2005 08:40 PM

I think it was a great game. The closeness of the scores made it wonderful to watch. I was not surprised at all by the final score. Did the Eagles ever really have a chance?

The only thing that I did not enjoy about the game was the amount of injuries. Its never good to see a player get hurt during a game. Nothing too serious but its scary nonetheless.

Looks like the Eagles are gonna have to fly home sad and have some chunky cambells soup with Mrs. McNab till next season.

heccubusiv 02-07-2005 04:31 AM

how bout that coin toss, the little kid did not even flip the coin, it went straight up and came flat down. That kid cost s a lot of people money by not meaning over to flip a coin.

/damn kids

Although you may pick winners, you have a slight trouble with addition:

Pats won - 30 points
35 total points - 0 (45 points)
Pats score first - 0 (Eagles)
Touchdown first - 10
Brady as MVP - 0 (Branch)
Tails - 10
Alcoholic beverage commercial - 10

Adds up to 60 in my book.

Congrats to Chauncey on the win for the TFP Bowl Championship and congrats to MacGuyver for winning the match outright. I look forward to next season, should be interesting.

Redlemon 02-07-2005 11:39 AM

What was up with all of those Eagles leaving the game with cramps? The temperature seemed pretty moderate. I've never seen that in a game, and I don't recall any Patriots leaving the game with cramps.

The only other mention of this that I could find was on FARK, of all places ("Another Eagle gets a cramp! Maybe they are all having concurrent menstrual cycles?").

Yeah, I think you are right with this one. Football is way more interesting with some bi-polar steroid loser disappearing the night before the game or Al Davis having his toupee blow off, than a solid group of players who only care about each other and winning the game.

If you gonna start complaining about this year's Super Bowl, start with Joe Buck and the litany of commercials during the first quarter that were shown in place of live action.

Rdr4evr 02-07-2005 12:39 PM

Damn Dylan, are you llow’s buddy? You Patsie boys are getting upset lately, eh? Is my anti-Patsie attitude getting to you? It's all good though, bi-polar is something 'ol Barret couldn't help, it's an awful disease that is incontrollable if one ceases to take the medication, but I do blame him for missing the big show.

Either way, my 5-11 team is still more exciting to watch than your "dynasty" team that somehow talks the NFL into allowing them penalties (and I'm not just talking about the snowjob). Or are you angry because your team fanbase consists of you and maybe 10 others?

As for Joe Buck, I'll agree with you there, I think he's an annoying POS.

I still love you Dylan, you crazy Patsie fans are a hoot to argue with!

P.S. We will STOMP on you next season

Ace_O_Spades 02-07-2005 02:03 PM

I don't see what any Patriots fan needs to be upset.

Domination of the league for nigh on four years? Yeah, they've got that.

I know you enjoy using the term "Patsy" and/or "Patsies" quite bit to belittle the NFL's best team and its fan base, but your intent and use of the term don't seem to be conducive to one another. By definition, "Patsy" is a person who is easily manipulated or victimized. It seems to me that the Steelers, Colts, and Eagles became patsies when they played the Patriots in the playoffs.

Now, if you are using patsy to describe myself or the other 10 Patriot fans in the world, you might be correct with the latter. As far as the former, I have never considered myself a patsy nor do I feel I will become a patsy by rooting for team that I have followed since the days of Dick McPherson and his 2-14 record as head coach or the 1-15 record of Rod Rust.

I don't fault you for cheering for the Raiders nor resenting me or the 10 other Patriots fans for enjoying 3 of the past 4 seasons. I grew up a Red Sox fan and I know how much it hurts to root for a team that is the epitome of mediocrity and underachieving. Someday the Raiders might just break through and win a meaningful game. But just as the Red Sox suffered under mismanagement and a slew of head cases in the locker room, the Raiders will continue to do so until a change is made. I think we both know that change needs to be with Al Davis.

First, Dylan is a Pats fan and could be my buddy anytime. Second, it's not the most "exciting" team that wins the Super Bowl, its the team that is prepared, motivated, and executes its game plan. Again and again, and again.
Anyone who watched the game last night would have though that it was the Eagles who lined the refs pockets, not the Pats who "talked the NFL" into making or missing calls, but you don't win the Super Bowl complaining about the refs, you win by overcoming obstacles.
I don't know about the nine other Pats fans besides Dylan and I, but Someone fills Gillette stadium for every home game and hasn't seen a Pats loss there in over two years.
When I was in 6th grade, I went to Foxboro stadium and watched Raymond Claiborne take an int. back for a score and win against the Bills. I thought the Pats were unbeatable, but when they got creamed by the Bears in XX, I didn't go around hating the Bears and their fans forever. You should spend more time loving your band of reprobates than hating a successful team.

Damn man, you’re going for the jugular, eh? On a serious note, we had superb seasons from 00-02, but due to our straight up shit for luck, we unfortunately gave up three easy SuperBowl victories to mere playoff losses. Allow me to explain:

2000- We made it to the Conference game and were headed to an easy SuperBowl, but what happened? Fatass Saragosa had to illegally bellyflop Gannon on the FIRST drive of the fucking game breaking Gannons ribs, which in turn cost us the conference title, and possibly our first Lombardi in 20 years. $10,000 fine isn’t bad for a championship, is it?

2001- As much as you guys hate to hear it, it was and still is a huge deal. Whether you’re a fan or not, you and I damn well know it was a fumble, no ands, ifs or buts about it. It WAS a fumble and we were clearly robbed of it. We won that game, you guys lost, plain and simple, but due to the NFL’s hatred for the Raiders, you got the win handed to you on a silver platter. The fact is, you wouldn’t even have a “dynasty” label if it wasn’t for us, it would have been us that went to the SuperBowl 2 years in a row, and maybe even crushed your confidence in the process preventing you from going again. If not, you would’ve had only two trophies under your belt, and would not be considered a dynasty. Unbelievable how one call can alter the entire NFL.

2002- Barret bailed on us because he chose to have a drunken night instead. This fucked up the teams’ morale and killed all confidence we may have had. Although, this is more of a minor excuse compared to the Gannon injuries.

2003- Sixth game in, Gannon destroys his shoulder, thus ending his season. Furthermore, Tui obtained a season ending injury in the opener of the very next game; we were stuck with Mirer for the remainder of the season. NO team is going to have even a .500 season with a third stringer.

2004- Gannon broke his neck in the third game in Tampon Bay by a cheap fucking spearing shot that Brooks delivered which he wasn’t even fined for. Protecting the QB a top priority? My ass. Once again our season was lost because Gannon was lost.

It is obvious that our bad luck has been due to our lack of Gannon. He was the prime reason for our success in those three years. What he brought to the team was discipline, motivation, dedication, perfectionism, leadership, “commitment to excellence”, “pride & poise”, and most importantly, a passion to the game and to winning. I place a great emphasis on him not only because he is my favorite Raider since I’ve been a fan, but because we would’ve been lost without him. Of course he is not the only reason for our crap luck, but countless injuries as well as losses of key players and constant changing of personnel aren’t exactly the key to success, and this is where Al comes into the equation.

Davis worked incredibly hard to build this team’s image, and he was successful, but unfortunately, what brought him success in the past is not going to work towards the present or future. He made a wise decision into bringing Gruden at the helm, and Gruden brought the discipline that was so lagging in previous years, Davis obviously had a problem with this and tore up his contract. Stupid decision, absolutely. Our scouting, drafting and FA pickups are obviously not the wisest decisions either. Why? Because we draft guys who are athletic, not guys who are talented football players (if only all of our picks were Gallery caliber). Free agency? We pick up guys who only have several years left in them, which is great for short term success, but disastrous for long term success. Al has made his mistakes in the past, and I fear he will continue to make crucial mistakes until we have someone new controlling the organization, but the man has earned respect for building a team such as the silver and black.

I would be careful saying we can’t win meaningful games; we have just as much trophies under our belt as you, plus two extra Superbowl appereances.

Anyway, we will meet next regular season, and possibly in the post season, until then, heres hoping to wise off-season decisions.
