Just came across this story, looks like Robbins is in a whole lot of trouble. I guess he never got the help he needed.

MIAMI (Reuters) - Former pro football player Barret Robbins was charged with trying to murder three police officers during a violent struggle that continued even after he was shot twice in the torso, Miami Beach police said Thursday.
The former Oakland Raiders center, who has a history of bipolar disorder, "was heard laughing throughout the attack," the police report said.

Robbins is 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 380 pounds, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a break-in Saturday night and found him hiding in a women's bathroom above a Miami Beach pub.

Robbins spun around and began kicking and punching one of the officers, beating him to the ground, then picked up another and slammed him into the walls, the report said.

Robbins turned back to the first officer and grabbed violently at his midsection, apparently trying to take his gun, the report said. The third officer, Detective Michael Muley, pointed his gun at Robbins and threatened to shoot him.

Robbins grabbed Muley's entire face with one hand, pushed him into a corner then grabbed his arms "and began to snarl and growl at him," the report said.

Fearing for his life, Muley pulled his arm away and shot Robbins twice, the report said. Shot in the heart and the lung, Robbins dropped to his knees, still snarling and growling, then slapped the gun out of Muley's hand and drove him to the ground, the officers said.

Robbins eventually sat down on the floor and gave up, the report said. He was still in critical condition at a Miami hospital Thursday.

Muley suffered a concussion and was released after hospital treatment, police said.

Robbins, 31, was charged Wednesday with three counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, attempting to deprive an officer of his weapon, resisting arrest with violence and trespassing.

His attorney told local news media that Robbins had a mental breakdown and that the case appeared to be one of "blatant insanity."

Robbins was cut from the Raiders last year after failing to pass a physical and had struggled with mental illness and alcoholism.

We were discussing this issue at a Raider board. As much as Robbins was an excellent center for us and his disease is definitely beyond control once he ceases to take his medication, it is still his responsibility as a grown man to consume them as directed. I understand if he fails to take his medication, his actions are basically unavoidable, but he was asking for what he got. Imagine if he had been successful in removing the gun from the officer and ended up killing him? Robbins is a huge guy and I'm sure it took more than several bullets to take him down, but he is a danger to himself and others, and if he doesn't want to help himself, then he must be removed from society for his safety, as well as societies.

I wish the Raider organization would somehow try and help him since he obviously isn't helping himself. I hope Robbins recovers from his critical condition, and I hope he is taken to an institution where they can guarantee his recovery and safety. I wish him the best.

www.fansinblack.com

There are plenty more, but this is the main one I post at. There is one section called Raidertalk, and one section called fansinblack....the fansinblack require a $15 payment for a one year membership (I post there), but the Raidertalk is free.
