Hey, I have tried this before, and only had a couple responses. Hopefully more fencers will notice this time.

And yes, I fence, but you know that.

I've always been interested in fencing. How does one go about starting? Information such as equipment, training, cost would be much appreciated.

I used to fence, in HS. Gave it up in college.

Firebird, just check in the local yellow pages, usually there will be a club or two in the area.

Fenced in college, I was never really competative, but I enjoyed it. It's been years since I have, I actually got into it because some girl I met said she thought fencing was facinating and I told her I knew how. Went out the next day to start learning how. It never worked out with that girl, but I had fun fencing for the next few years.

I fenced a little back in College, but that was almost two decades ago. I still have my foil and mask though.

I fenced a little at the end of college. Of course that was 14 years ago......hadn't really realized just how old I was getting. For the most part I was limited to foil, but I did pick up the epee for a tournament when my college wanted a warm body. I actually held the weapon for the first time minutes before I advanced in the tournament. Maybe I should have stayed with it, but there was not much opportunity in med school.

Sorry, can't say that I fence, I'm too scared my ass might get scared (and I don't mean the emotion but getting cut). Just for those smartasses out there.

fencing is safer than most any other sport. the major injuries are repetitive stress injuries due to doing something incorrectly and it putting a strain on the body. you very rarely get any injury that will leave a scar (though i do have a few, i'll explain if you're interested). really, everything is engineered to be quite safe.
