OSUx In trouble

Has to be on of the best articles I have ever seen.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1919059

This could be huge and OSU could lose their national championship if everything works out

I'm sorry, Clarrett is on crack. He has never been anything but a crybaby, and he's upset about not getting into the draft. He needs press and how else to get it.

Funny, he brought up all this shit to get out of OSU when he thought he could go into the NFL and then wanted to go back to them, and they expected him to actually work and he couldn't do it.

Funny, how the only one collobarating his story is an ex player suspended for drugs.

OSU isn't perfect no NCAA big time team is, but to bring up all this shit is just sour grapes and an "I'll show you" attitude from someone who needs press so that he may get drafted.

I don't trust a word of what Maurice Clarett says. The kid is not good news, and I have no idea how this would "clear his name." Not only did he say that he took money from people he shouldn't have, he admitted that he didn't do his schoolwork. Then, he claimed to be "blackballed" by OSU when they didn't do his homework for him.

The only reputable source told ESPN that his advisers put him in useless classes that did not apply to his major. This occurs quite frequently (although it is slightly against the rules), and it is up to the athlete to take the classes needed for a degree.

If those allegations turn out to be true, it would be sad for the decent people who are associated with Ohio State, because they worked hard to earn a national championship. I got tired of them winning by a tenth of a point every week, but I don't hate them like some people seem to.

I know that not all college credits transfer, especially (not saying this is the case but should be checked into) if OSU is on quarters (it is) and if Maryland is on semesters. Also how many of his classes did this guy recieve a "C" in, which again sometimes does not get credited in a transfer.

OSU is in no way perfect but neither is ANY big time school and this should be taken with a grain of salt.

HOWEVER, IF I were a conspiracy theorist I might say someone within the OSU Alumni may have put Clarett up to this to get rid of or at least put pressure on a growingly unpopular Tressel and Geiger..... but only IF I were conspiracy minded would I even think that possible.

Exactly. He's got to get his name out again, so that NFL scouts might remember him. He's even willing to take negative publicity. I hope Clarett and Ricky Williams meet up, and they can live happy, lazy lives together.

OSU will not get into any trouble over this.

Although, again, I say if I were a conspiracist I'd say that if anything happens it'll be Geiger's and / or Tressel's resignation.

But only if I were a conspiracist would I believe that to ever happen.

I'm originally from Columbus, and I absolutely can't stand OSU fans. They are pretty much freaking drones, they have no idea why they like Ohio State, but they are so devoted to the school. Hell, most of them don't even know the rules to the sports they watch OSU play.

So I moved to Lexington. Not much changed, just a couple of letters (OSU to UK).

Already the call for Geiger has started up here in the North Eastern part of the state. People are saying Geiger is handling this as badly as Clarett, that if the accusations were totally false, Geiger should have just come out and said, "This young man is just a disgruntled ex-student, the accusations he is throwing have no merit and as they are hurting our good name and reputation we are seeking legal action for slander." End statement, no questions taken from the press.

Instead Geiger is commencing with name calling back. Doesn't show class.

PS: I am an OSU fan, I know the rules, I know the campus, the area, the history and the tradition. I know that one reason John Cooper was hated (besides never beating Michigan) was the fact he was the first and only coach to not have any Ohio or OSU ties in any way. I also know that Woody Hayes was the man who put OSU footbal on the map, and he was often hated by the the faculty and trustees for doing so.

I do take offense when people say fans of a certain team are just "drones" or "that they have no idea why they root for the team"... etc. You can apply that to ANY team, political party, celebrity, tv show, whatever. It's wrong to do, not only hypocritical in most cases but prejudicial and self-righteous.

Now to say a team has bad fans because of their actions (i.e. fighting, rioting, running out onto the field.... etc) is still biased because you only see the handful, but you can make a solid case over it all when the actions have happened numerous times.

That's because 3 years ago when he was playing none of this shit on either side came out. Onec it did both sides looked bad and both sides have been showing no class and no respect to anyone, students, alumni, fans.... etc.

Someone was right tho, the NCAA wont ignore this, this could be ugly if there really are credible people corraborating the allegations.

I'm sure that being a Miami fan clouds my judgement on this issue. I'm not really sure what I make of Clarretts allegations. I think that Clarrett has a difficult time telling the truth and its hard for me to believe what he says. However, the old saying is that where there is smoke, there is fire. If Ohio State was cheating in some way, they should pay for it. I just read the OSU is going to allow the NCAA to investigate the allegations, so I guess time will tell.

I find it pathetic that Miami fans blame OSU and not their team for their loss, what 3 years ago(?). Or the fact that people like to kick a team when it is down and claim how much they hate it.

OSU is not only a sports powerhouse but is also one of the finest schools in the land (along with having the best damned band in the land).

I will laugh as hard at those who laughed at OSU over unsubstantiated accussations, if they are proven false. If they are proven true (and I am sure there is some truth to it how much and how serious who knows), OSU did nothing no other big school hasn't done, they just got caught, and trusted the wrong athletes.

I don't see the NCAA doing anything, and Clarrett has lost millions of dollars because NFL owners and coaches are watching him and saying this guy creates problems, he's a "me" player not a team player and IF he does get drafted he'll go real low (I think 5th round is earliest at best).

I think if OSU gets punished the NCAA needs to look at every program and see who DOES run an honest program...... have a feeling they'll be looking for an honest program for a very very very long time.

Actually, the NCAA is going to investigate OSU
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1923175
As far as being kicked when your done, I remember when Miami was put on probation due to violations, and no one showed any mercy. People were out for blood. I remember the Sports Illustrated cover pronouncing, "Why UM should quit playing football" or something like that.
I don't think Ohio State is going to have their alleged (just kidding) 2003 national championship taken away or anything like that, but if they are cheating, let them pay the price.

Since the NCAA does not award a national championship in football, it would be pretty hard for the NCAA to take the Buckeyes 2002 Championship away. I think that Tostitos would have to remove the Championship, since it was the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Poor Maurice. He said he could have had any girl in Ohio while he was playing for the Buckeyes, but after he was caught lying to the NCAA (multiple times) and suspended, he said those girls were gone. Poor Maurice. Not gettin any action on, or off, the field.

The question is, did OSU know any of this was going on? If they did, there could be problems. But since, in my opinion, they are allegations from the mind of Clarrett, the Buckeyes couldn't know.

And when your own high school football coach publicly rips you for being trouble, you know things aren't good.

We can celebrate for the weekend. Doesn't matter what OSU does the rest of the season as long as we beat that team up North and we crushed the Blue and Yellow.

We may not be a great team this year but for the biggest game of the year we were.

How true, pan. On another message board dealing with HS sports here in Ohio, the UM fans are saying that the OSU game isn't that important, because they won the Big Ten and are going to the Rose Bowl. But they are backing into the Rose Bowl after losing to their most hated rival. It's a great day in Buckeyeland!

Man, has this story died... After the NCAA was on campus, and went through the same allegations made by Clarett a while back, now no one has anything to say. I think ESPN has figured out Clarett can't be trusted, and has pretty much dropped thier whole involvement in this... Just my opinion...

Well, it looks like Clarett is desperate now. This story was linked to the Canton Repository :

OSU, Clarett have been in touch
By TODD PORTER Repository sports writer

Even as Ohio State begins to prepare for the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29, there is a sense among some close Buckeye observers they are waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Again.

As has been the case since he was suspended from Ohio State last season, former running back Maurice Clarett and ESPN The Magazine may not be finished with the Clarett scandal that rocked OSU a year after winning the national title.

Rumors have circulated for the last 10 days that Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel and/or Athletics Director Andy Geiger are on the hot seat and in jeopardy of losing their jobs. Geiger told The Repository on Monday there was no truth to that rumor although he, too, has heard it.

"I just spent all day in Bricker Hall (OSU's administrative offices) today and no one there seems to know anything about it," Geiger said. "There is no truth to that whatsoever."

Word is that Clarett recently tried to patch things up with Ohio State. He supposedly called Geiger to say he was willing to apologize and admit he fabricated most of what he told ESPN The Magazine. In turn he wanted OSU officials to issue public statements of support in order to help his reputation for April's NFL Draft.

Ohio State supposedly declined the offer.

Geiger did not deny that such a scenario took place.

"There is always communication," Geiger said when asked if he received a call from Clarett to patch up the relationship. "Beyond that, I cannot elaborate."

If Clarett would rescind what he told ESPN The Magazine, it could lend credence to Ohio State's assertion that the publication sought to tarnish the Buckeye football program.

Following Sunday's Browns-Patriots game, Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown spoke to the media in Cleveland's locker room. Brown was an adviser to Clarett during the NCAA investigation, but seems to have distanced himself from the Warren Harding graduate.

Asked what he made of Clarett's recent comments about Ohio State, Brown shrugged his shoulders. Clarett told ESPN The Magazine that Tressel set him up with boosters who made sure he had money in his pocket and a car to drive. He also alleged tutors did class work for players.

Ohio State's athletic department and football program were cleared of any wrongdoing in a months-long investigation by the NCAA after Clarett was suspended.

Brown saved his harshest criticism for Clarett and Geiger, and praised the job Tressel has done. Essentially, Brown said Clarett should have kept his mouth shut and not gone to ESPN The Magazine with the story.

"I think the whole thing is a tragic affair," Brown said. "I think Geiger handled things improperly from the start. But I also think Maurice talked about things he should not have talked about. It's a tragedy for everybody. Jim Tressel is a good man. He's been my friend for a long time. I hope nothing happens to damage his reputation, and I hope Maurice can play in the NFL."

Asked if he thought Tressel would break NCAA rules for Clarett, Brown did not address the question.

?
i don't get into that," said Brown, who has publicly criticized the NCAA in the past. "I don't know what the NCAA rules are anyway. I think their rules are ridiculous, so I can't get into that."
