Harvard vs. Yale Prank
On November 20, 2004 at the 121st Yale-Harvard game, 20 Elis donned custom made "Harvard Pep Squad" t-shirts, applied enemy-red war paint on their faces, and set out to pull a prank on 1800 Harvard alumni. Like clockwork, these brave Elis proceeded to exude more Harvard spirit than any Cantab ever... tossing t-shirts to the lucky and unsuspecting few, and passing out 1800 sheets of red & white construction paper in perfect order to the cheering Harvard crowd. With 4:47 minutes left in the second quarter of the game, each member of the crowd raised their sheet of paper expecting to spell out "Go Harvard" as they were told by the cheering "Harvard Pep Squad." Instead, the truth was revealed to a laughing crowd of YALE alumni and students who saw the Harvard crowd spell out in clear red letters "WE SUCK."

You gotta love college rivalries. As a Cal student, I knew pranks were a big part of the Big Game tradition, but in my four years at Cal, I don't remember us ever doing a prank against Stanfurd. The only recent prank that I can somewhat identify with was in 1997 when Cal students broke into the Stanfurd PA system and on a Stanfurd penalty they spoke over the loudspeaker system, "personal foul...excessive arrogance." I wish I would have been there for that one too. |
Hahahahah, you'd think as Harvard students they would be too smart to fall for something like that

I could have sworn MIT had already pulled off a card trick against Harvard, but I can't find a reference. Hacks aren't what they used to be; this was a very clever setup, and the best they could come up with was "we suck"? Lame, lame, lame.

Caltech did the same in the ROSE BOWL, in 1961, when Washington played Minnesota. Great article.

The adage "those who refuse to heed history are doomed to repeat it" comes to mind. I think it's hilarious, and really kind of harmless as well, which is refreshing. I guess not harmless to everyone, but hey, you snooze, you lose!

a truely awesome prank. it didn't hurt anyone and no one got in trouble. simply brilliant.

That video was the funniest thing I have sen in awhile, nice prank.

I think that is a cool idea for a prank. Its more work oriented and intellectual. Pranks done at my school or done to rivial schools are less classy. Usually they invole painting a giant penis or the anal. I think that the prank the pulled was perfect becaues it was funny and was not offensive or damaged property.

You'd think all college football crowds would be very leery of card displays during rivalry games. Maybe this will put an end to them.

While that prank was very awesome, it wasn't as awesome as the Great Rose Bowl Hoax.
