Bowl Games
Does anybody plan on going to any bowl games? I"ll be at the New Orleans Bowl rooting for a North Texas win over some CUSA team. No opponent has been chosen for the game as of yet. It's an awesome experience, unlike any regular season game. You should check it out if possible.
My wife and I follow Auburn wherever they go for bowl games, except we will not follow them to the Orange Bowl if that scenario arises. First, we've heard too many negative things about the Orange Bowl, and second, we want to be in Auburn should they happen to win.
Well, considering I'm a South Carolina fan, I don't think I will be now. Although, I will say that going to a bowl game (even when your team isn't in it) can be great fun.
When my wife and I lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, we drove up to San Antonio for the Purdue-Oklahoma State Alamo Bowl. Spent the day in SA and then caught the game. The atmosphere in the city was awesome. Just something about competing crazy football fans taking over a city that adds to the experience. I'd highly recommend checking out a game if it's near you. You can probably even score cheap tickets outside the gate, as bowl games nearly always have guys looking to unload massive quantities of tickets. |

I was there for the South Carolina-W. Virginia Carquest Bowl (yeah, not exactly the MNC, I understand) and didn't have any problems at all. Stadium is right off the interstate and the area around it isn't anywhere near as bad as some places I've been. |
I will be wherever Cal ends up playing. Hopefully that will mean a trip to the Rose Bowl, but it can get no worse than the Holiday Bowl. Go Bears!
sorry to threadjack, but... wow, another fan of the Mean Green!?!?! I used to live within walking distance of the campus... and still have family & friends out in Krum!
I'm tryin my hardest to get to N.O. for the Sugar Bowl (as long as Miami beats VT) and there's an outside chance I'll take some time to head over to Jax to see FSU try for some redemption against west virginia.

You guys are lucky. There's not a lot of places better to go for a bowl game than New Orleans.
I'll be heading down to Charlotte to watch the Heels in the Contenintal Tire Bowl. Yes, it is a bowl named after a tire company, and it is only 3 or so years old, but hey its better than having to decide whether to travel to the blue field at boise state. Haven't been to a bowl game yet, should be fun after such an up and down season.
Go Heels! |

I was just thinking about this the other day whether or not people still even got excited about Bowl Games. Guess I was wrong.
Another year watching Texas at the Holiday/Alamo Bowl....sigh....fucking Big East Champions and their automatic BCS Bid. Santa, can I have a playoff system for the NCAA this year, I swear I've been good!
North Texas will be playing Southern Miss in the New Orleans Bowl......I can't wait. anybody that has a chance to go to a bowl should. it is an experience that you won't have any other time. good luck to all following their team and have a safe trip. keep us updated on who ya'll are playing.
While I would love to head to San Diego to see my Aggies, I don't think I can afford it right now. I am still holding out hope for a Cotton Bowl berth.
I'm going to the Motor City Bowl!!!
Well, I'm only going because I got free tickets. I desperately would like to follow Michigan to whatever bowl they're going to. |
I've been to the last two Outback Bowl's.
Big Ten vs. SEC Usually a good game. I say usually because last year was bad for SEC and Florida fans. Iowa - 37, UF - 17. Wisconsin vs. ???? this year. There is nothing like the atmosphere of college football. |
I thought about going to the bowl the Buckeyes are in, but funds won't let me. I will probably go to the Motor City bowl if my UT Rockets go. Andrew, can you land me a free ticket or two?
trying to get to Phoenix to watch Notre Dame, if I don't try to get accross the country to watch Henne in the Rose Bowl
I live in Ohio and believe it or not as we speak I am looking at rental cars and hotel prices to go down and watch my beloved FSU noles take on them 'Neers from WV. I have a buddy at work who happens to be a WVU fan and we are trying to get down there to see the game. If anyone who can help out with any kind of deals down there on hotels or good places to stay for CHEAP (we only gonna be there Fri and Sat night) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drop me a PM@@!!!
Thanks and GO NOLES!!!!! |
I would if I had a chance. I'd head to the Liberty bowl to watch my Broncos go against Louisville. Number one ranked offense vs number two ranked offense. That is going to be one awesome game.
Right now Oklahoma State's bowl is up in the air we are placed somewhere inbetween the Holiday, Independence, or Alamo. Who knows?
I think you guys should take on Ohio St. in the Alamo Bowl.
OSU vs OSU would be cool and it is where I hope we end up.
Wow, for a moment there I wondered why they would be playing themselves. Whoops.

it looks like Texas will be in a BCS bowl after all (most likely the Rose Bowl)... which bumps A&M up to the Cotton, Okie State to the Holiday, and Texas Tech to the Alamo Bowl.

mark it down... Texas is going to a BCS bowl this year! the 'Horns made up enough ground in both the AP and Coaches' polls to pass Cal in the BCS. the only dispute will be which bowl... Rose or Fiesta???
We'll see. I think everyone is going to get screwed....
here's the scoop on the Big XII bowl teams:
Oklahoma -- Orange Bowl Texas -- Rose Bowl Texas A&M -- Cotton Bowl Texas Tech -- Holiday Bowl Oklahoma St. -- Alamo Bowl |

Wow. I'll go ahead and suggest anybody and everybody bet the "Over" on the Holiday Bowl, regardless of how high it gets set.
Troy is in the SVC Bowl and will play Northern Illinois.....2 Sun Belt teams made it to a bowl.....that's good for us. hopefully, the Sun Belt can go 2-0 this year.
I'm a South Carolina fan, so I'm still pretty bitter about the whole "We're taking ourselves out of bowl consideration" thing.
I do think it would have been funny, though, if there weren't enough bowl-eligible teams to fill all the bowls. Apparently that very nearly happened this year. |
Due to unfortunate events concerning the BCS, I will now be attending the Holiday Bowl instead of the Rose Bowl. :( I'm still excited about Cal going to a major bowl game, but very much disappointed that its not the Rose Bowl. Well, at least its good to know that Cal will finish the year with a bang, I could easily see them drop 50 on Texas Tech. :D
I'm going to the outback bowl in tampa. My girl is a UGA fan and I decided I'd rather see Georgia whoop up on a BIGpreTENder than see the seminoles in jacksonville. I've got my hotel reservations downtown, now just waiting for a good deal on some tickets. Anyone got something in the front row they aren't going to use?
Why did Cal down their last possession? They might've scored and that might've made the difference, you never know.
True, but Tedford played the game the way he would have played any other game. I will say that the touchdown that got called back because of the clipping penalty might have made that difference. Its kind of upsetting because the guy did not have to make the block at all, but mostly because it was a bad call by the ref. It just seems that Cal's season was all of a sudden determined by how they played in their last game.
I do wonder why the Rose Bowl decided on taking Texas instead of Utah. |
Quote:
Heh, could you imagine the ruckus that would be caused if the number four team in the nation didn't go to a BCS Bowl? Or were you talking about Texas and Utah switching places in Bowls; Texas to Fiesta, Utah to Rose. Oh, and don't count Texas Tech out, they can hang fifty on OU, what makes you think they can't do it to Cal? |

God, I'd love to go see Michigan play in the grand-daddy of 'em alll...
But I'll be trapped up in MI for the holidays. |
BCS manages to screw up something else, I feel bad for Cal and going to the holiday bowl. All this stuff would be settled if there was just a playoff.
Yeah, kinda sucks that the Rose won't be Big 10 / Pac 10 this year...but since USC is going to the National Championship game, I guess the rules were out the window.
Hey Horns!
Break down and make the trip to the Rose. And don't forget to win the game! The Sooners got the "consolation prize" of the Rose Bowl a couple years back and it was an incredible deal. A great place to play and a great trip. I was happy for Mack and the crew although its' too bad Cal won't be the host. That would be a great match up. Go Sooners and Go Horns!! |
I got my tickets today. Anyone else sitting in section 138 for the Outback bowl?
Everyone is arguing about whether or not Texas or Cal should've been in the BCS. I argue that Pitt shouldn't be in the BCS.

The best news I've heard today: Jeff Tedford signed to a 5-year deal!! :) Go Bears! |
I'll be in New Orleans rooting on my alma mater in the Sugar Bowl.
Got transportation, got hotel, now all I need is tickets. Anybody have any extra sugar bowl tickets they'd like to sell me? Go HOKIES!! (even though Auburn will probably beat us) |
I'm going to the Silicon Valley Bowl in San Jose. I march with the NIU Huskie Band and they're paying for us to fly out there, for our hotel, and for all of our meals. It's a pretty sweet deal. Basically the only thing I need to shell out money for is if I want to party up. We're going to be there from the 28th-31st. Go huskies!

North Texas has a bright future ahead of them though, Jamario Thomas (correct me if I got his name wrong) is brilliant on the field. He sees everything and is an awesome rusher.
the game really sucked. southern miss stacked 9 in the box and jamario couldn't run through them. they got to our quarterback so fast that there was no time to throw the ball either. jamario still ended up with 92 yards, not bad against a team selling out with 9 in he box. they were just so much bigger and faster than our guys. yes, North Texas has a bright future, but it will be tough getting there. here's to next year!
I'm going to the Orange Bowl! Could have gone to the Champs Sports Bowl (glad I didn't) and could still go to the Capital One Bowl (probably won't).

The final score was only 26-16. An extra touchdown wouldn't have been embarassing at all. In the case of points, sportsmanship doesn't really apply unless you're up by a lot (example being Louisville beating Cincinnati 70-7).

A coach can't tell his 2nd or 3rd string QB to not try to score, fumble or throw an interception. The kid has been trying hard all his life to succeed and when he finally gets into a game with his folks in the stands he will do his most to score. What can you expect.
