ACC/Big East

I'm tired of all of this bullshit with Miami, BC, and 'Cuse moving to the ACC. I wish the ACC would hurry up and make thier decision. My Cardinals are waitng to get out god-awful CUSA and everyone has said the UofL is the first to go to the BE. Ideally, I'd like to see Cincy and Memphis come with us, but anymore, I just want to get out.

Is anyone else watching this unfold? If so, give me your thoughts.

Yes I wish it would hurry too but it's not just the ACC holding things up.. hell the Big East is suing the ACC so that will delay things. Latest I heard is that we (acc) are talking to Va. Tech again about coming and also UConn. That would give us 14 teams and we could split the conference into 2 divisions of 7. I'm all for it. I think it would be a great move. I can see it being a good move for Louisville. Who knows anymore.. I just wish it'd hurry too. The 1 million deadline is June 30th so hopefully they'll have it figured out by then. If Duke (I love them) would quit bitchin' and UNC would quit bitchin' it would sure help.

Unless you are an ACC fan, this is an awfully boring and disheartening story. This makes sports no better - the football may actually suffer without Pitt and West Virginia, etc. meeting Miami. And the ACC, with the exception of Florida State (who has not played well the past few seasons), is not a place to replace those matchups. The basketball may suffer as well- especially if Duke, Maryland, North Carolina don't meet twice as usual.

So basically its about money and power. Which everyone pretty much admits. Which is lame. As a fan, I'd like to see better competition, not worse.

And one more thing, wraith, Louisville will only be invited to join the Big East if the Big East survivces this. And if four football schools go, it won't. The remaining teams, at least in football, would fold to other conferences. The only reference I've heard to Louisville is if ONLY Miami goes, then Louisville can come in.

As a VT alumni, I want to see VT go with the rest of them to the ACC rather than stay behind in the shell of a conference the Big East will become. Hell, in 10 years I won't care how VT got into the ACC, but I'll be loving when they're playing Maryland, Miami, Florida State, et al on a regular schedule. About time.

And what a time to start it, if it happens, with little Vick.

This just reeks of greed. The ACC is fine as it is right now. They only want these schools for football to make a little more $. By getting more $, the basketball aura in the ACC will decline and I'd bet they make less money on basketball by taking in these other teams. The ACC is primarily a basketball conference, except FSU.

I'm an ACC fan, I don't like the expansion idea much, but I am afraid it is the lesser of two evils. If the expansion doesn't happen, I think FSU might bolt and perhaps take Ga Tech and Clemson with them. That would massively weaken the ACC to the point of irrelevance in football. I agree it is all about money, specifically TV/Football money. A conference with Miami and FSU in it is going to get a bunch of TV money.

If the ACC takes VT plus the "Judas 3", I dont know how their financials are going to work out, because what Im hearing right now, they dont know if its going to cut it with only 3 new schools.

As for Louisville, they are the top univerisity not in the BCS if you look at all-sports and the money that goes into them.

I'm a recent graduate of Pittsburgh and have been a die-hard Pitt fan all my life, and if the Big East is raped the way the ACC wants to, it'll be terrible for Pitt and the rest of the conference. What are we supposed to use the Pete for, more Avril Lavigne concerts and basketball games against small "who cares?" schools like Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Norfolk State? Pitt and other schools in this conference are just finally getting back into the national spotlight with outstanding football and basketball programs, and the ACC threatens to destroy that all. I hear talk that Pitt could join the Big Ten, since it'd be a cold day in hell when Notre Dame gives up its lucrative football accomodations with NBC and the BCS, but aside from disliking one specific school, I generally feel indifference towards the Big Ten.

This whole thing makes me sick. The ACC is greedy and needs to be stopped. I hope this lawsuit slows it down to the point where each school threatening to leave would be committing suicide in the eyes of its students, administrators, and fans if they actually decide to fork over the $2 million and leave the Big East to die. It was a big deal in my school when something like $100,000 was spent on a bronze panther statue without the consent of the general student body; $2,000,000 is quite a few bronze statues to bitch about.

Knolan, I'm still in Pitt and i totally agree with what you say. I hope none of these teams ever leave the Big East, I think both conferences are fine as they are. The ACC are very greedy and I hear they are trying to poach West Virginia. If that happens I'd probably start crying. But I would love it if Pitt went to the big ten. But i think if the Big East folds it's probably C-USA for the Panthers.

Big East can just pick a few from the mid-majors and stop their own bitching.

One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!"
