Is your baseball team in the playoffs?

I'm a Phillies fan, and they should be in the playoffs, given their off-season acquisitions and talent, but in typical fashion they choked and missed out. I also like the Royals, and they choked even harder, breaking that 100 loss barrier.

So now the playoffs have started, and I'm excited to watch them, but it just feels kind of empty because a team I follow isn't in them..

Has your team made the playoffs, and if not, are you still able to enjoy watching the games, or don't you care anymore?

Let's try not to turn this into a "baseball sucks" thread. If you aren't watching the playoffs because you think baseball sucks, and not because your team isn't in it, then that isn't really relevant to this thread. :)

Seandq 10-08-2004 07:35 AM

No. My team sucks. :P. Actually, we're just frequent users of the phrase: "Wait till next year..next year's the year!". We may actually take your manager off your hands. :D. Gotta love the Mets.

I did pick a team I preferrably like in the regular season to be a team I'm rooting for in the offseason and that is the Boston Red Sox. Maybe it's the Mets fan in me that's saying to root for the Yankees' rivals and whoever's against them but I've always had a deep love for the Sox.

And need I say it, the 1986 world series was very hard on me (I was only 4) , but I took the side of the Mets.

absorbentishe 10-08-2004 07:55 AM

I'm a Yankee fan, so yes they are in. They don't look like they'll win it. My money is on St. Louis. I told people early on that the cardinals would be there at the end, vs. the Yankees. Let's just see how this plays out.

dylanmarsh 10-08-2004 08:12 AM

RED SOX!!!

They're just in a groove right now and it doesn't look like anyone is going to stop them. Anaheim was one of the hottest teams down the stretch and the Sox are making them look like a non-contender.

I'd love to see a rematch of the '67 World Series with the Cards and Sox. That would be a battle of epic proportions; 7 games, easy.

Averett 10-08-2004 08:14 AM

I'm a Braves fan. They pulled out a win last night to even their seires 1-1.

Honestly though, I've become a piss poor fan. Haven't watched many games the past year. But I'll tune into playoff baseball :D

Looking forward to Red Sox vs. Yankees. I'm hoping for a Braves vs. Red Sox series.

Sargeman 10-08-2004 08:28 AM

I've been a diehard Dodgers fan since the '77 WS.

Even though they will probably make a very early exit, I'm just glad they won the west and made it to the playoffs. If they could get some pitching this offseason, I expect them to do better next year.

present_future 10-08-2004 08:58 AM

Go Cardinals!

They got it done again last night. Sorry Hal, but it looks like my Redbirds are gonna make easy work out of your Dodgers.

guthmund 10-08-2004 09:17 AM

For chrissakes, don't jinx it!!!

Especially with Morris pitching on Saturday. Matty Mo has been off and on again these last few months, mostly off and if ever there was a comeback team in these playoffs it's the Dodgers.

yup my teams in.. ^ I'd love to see the sox vs. cubbies but that will have to wait for another year.. so now i"m hoping for a braves sox series

radioguy 10-08-2004 12:59 PM

nope, the rangers almost surprised alot of people. now the dodgers are about to get swept, but i am enjoying the games.

eagle1 10-08-2004 01:44 PM

Nope!

The Mariners are not in playoffs, they don't have a manager, and don't have half the team that they started with in April.

Talk about a rebuilding year!

Obtuse 10-08-2004 01:54 PM

Braves fan, so yeah my team is in. Not sure for how much longer if they keep playing like they did in the first 2 games against Houston.

Dengar 10-08-2004 06:58 PM

cough cough Tigers fan cough

so my answer is no they are not in the playoffs, but next year you just wait and see!!!

wrongfullyaccuzd 10-08-2004 08:18 PM

Yankees are in. And congratulations to the Red Sox on your sweep of the Angels. Winning the ALCS just wouldn't be the same without beating Boston.

yankeefatboy 10-09-2004 09:50 AM

Being a true NY fan(Yankees, Giants, Knicks, Rangers and when they existed, Cosmos) I get to experience the full spectrum. So yes, I am enjoying the baseball playoffs. Check back at the end of the football season.

MikeyChalupa 10-09-2004 05:05 PM

Yankee fan. We ARE the playoffs.

-Mikey

heccubusiv 10-09-2004 06:49 PM

Pirates Fan and we were ahead of the Astros but then we lost almost 20 straight

Paradise Lost 10-09-2004 06:50 PM

Unless the Pittsburgh Pirates changed their name to the Boston Red Sox, then no, we are
not in the playoffs.

1slOwCD8 10-10-2004 03:50 PM

Nope, too bad for the Cubs. close but lost the wildcard. oh well, theres always next year.....i guess?

Esen 10-10-2004 05:05 PM

gotta feel bad for Red Sox fans,
They keep getting their hopes up when they know it is IMPOSSIBLE for then to win the world series.

MontanaXVI 10-10-2004 05:27 PM

A's fan.....

No playoffs for me this year :(

Chemical Smoo 10-10-2004 08:46 PM

Detroit Tigers fan here... I doubt I will see them in for awhile, kinda used to it now.

Shizukana 10-10-2004 09:50 PM

For the 13th straight time, yes!

I've been a Braves fan since they truly and utterly SUCKED. Actually, I think I came out of the womb with a Braves hat on... :P Dale Murphy is my favorite all time player, and a great guy to boot.

But... yeah. GO BRAVOS against Houston tomorrow - Houston had their chance today and absolutely blew it due to poor management. Hopefully we can just play some better baseball than they do in Game 5.

Halx 10-10-2004 10:22 PM

...not anymore...

bbbbbb555 10-10-2004 10:26 PM

i am a padres fan and they got close to the wild card, but could not make it, so they are not in the playoffs.

Beatlefan58 10-11-2004 09:31 AM

I am a fan of both the Twins and the Braves, so I've enjoyed the playoffs thus far. The Braves can mess up a lot of predictions tonight if they can beat the Astros. As for the Twins, better luck next year!

GeePeeS'r 10-11-2004 10:12 AM

I'm a Devil Rays fan. Actually, I think I am the only fan left. At least we got 70 wins this year. There is hope!

Maybe next year we can go .500!!

goppers 10-11-2004 02:38 PM

pulling for the sox here. Time for Pedro and Schill to do their thing.

Wow, I read this post and thought, "when did I post that". It describes me almost perfectly. Well do I remember the days when the Braves were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs by the end of August. But I kept watching them anyway.

I don't know which is worse; having your heart slowly broken over a 5 month period, or having it abruptly crushed in October.

But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. We aren't done yet this year, so there's always hope.

cavscout05 10-11-2004 08:32 PM

Yes my team is, and im an Astros fan, and for once in the history of the team they have actually won a playoff series, all i have to say is damn good job.

darens42 10-11-2004 09:05 PM

you read it here first - bo sox & astros world series & bo sox world series champs

d

go rangers!

keeb 10-11-2004 10:20 PM

they were but then the yankees beat em..

Averett 10-12-2004 04:35 AM

Stupid Astros :(

Sigh... well, is it time to start the rebuilding train for the Braves?

Giant Hamburger 10-12-2004 09:47 AM

Huzzah!

I took a vow of silence until my beloved Astros exorcised the demons, which most often took the form of the Atlanta Braves. I consider the season a resounding success. I am so pleased even if my pleasure brings Averett pain.

One of many great weights has been lifted from my shoulders.

buffto 10-14-2004 10:04 PM

my cardinals are still in. too bad they have a history of choking in the nlcs. funny how they swept the braves in 2000 then lost to the mets in 5 games. same in 2002 with sweeping the diamondbacks and getting smashed by the giants.

Zoz 10-14-2004 10:06 PM

Yankees rock!!! Gonna win the big one...

Again!

{Anti-Punk} 10-14-2004 10:08 PM

My team was as far from the playoffs this year as a team can get. Hint: 111 losses. At least we beat the Yankees in 2001. In my time of frustration for my team I like to remember those times.

LIMilf 10-15-2004 03:57 AM

Yet again my team the Chicago White Sox let the Minnesota twins get into the playoffs. Its just sickening that the sox have let the twins win 3 years in a row. Sad but true

tooth 10-15-2004 05:26 AM

GO CARDS!!!

Zyeox 10-15-2004 06:28 AM

Dude my team is gonna take it all this year and the next!!! Don't be hating on the NY Mets!! LOL, Man I cant believe they suck ass that bad!!! But there still my team!!
