Funny, I saw him on SportsCenter the other day saying that the Cowboys were going to be his team this season.
Oh well, it will be nice seeing Vinny play once again. Article Cowboys Send Last Years Starting QB Packing By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com In a stunning move that likely pushes 17-year veteran Vinny Testaverde to the top of the team's depth chart, the Dallas Cowboys released Quincy Carter on Wednesday. Sources told ESPN and ESPN.com that Carter recently failed a team-administered drug test. Carter already was in the NFL substance-abuse program, having tested positive for an illegal substance in the past, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Carter, the starting quarterback for the last three seasons, left the Cowboys' training camp in Oxnard, Calf., early Wednesday. The release of Carter is expected to be official later Wednesday afternoon and addressed by coach Bill Parcells at his daily press briefing between practices. Owner Jerry Jones has confirmed the move. A three-year veteran, Carter had started 31 games in his career, including all 16 in 2003, when he led Dallas to a 10-6 record and a wild card spot, the first postseason appearance by the team since 1999. The former University of Georgia standout was a second-round pick in the 2001 draft. "I think I probably speak for all the guys of how disappointed we are that Quincy is no longer going to be part of this team," Testaverde said. "But at the same time we know we have to look forward to getting things down and go out and win games." After practice, Parcells gave the players some sort of explanation about Carter's departure, but players declined to comment on the discussion. Carter's career has been a roller coaster, with flashes of brilliance often followed by very uneven performances. Just days ago, when asked about his starter for this season, Parcells acknowledged that Carter had "a leg up" on the No. 1 job. What changed that, at least for now, is unknown. In his three NFL seasons, Carter completed 507 of 902 passes for 5,839 yards, with 29 touchdown passes, 36 interceptions and a passer rating of 70.0. He threw for 3,302 yards last season, his best year in the league. Testaverde, 40, was signed by the Cowboys in the spring after the New York Jets released him for salary cap reasons. Testaverde played for Parcells in New York and, even before the Jets freed him, it was obvious he was headed to Dallas for a reunion with the coach. The 17-year veteran has completed 3,334 of 5,925 passes for 40,943 yards, and he has 251 touchdown passes and 235 interceptions. The other two quarterbacks on the roster are rookie Drew Henson, the former Michigan star who in February abandoned his pursuit of a baseball career with the New York Yankees to return to football, and second-year pro Tony Romo. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/column...len&id=1852011 |
Hopefully their running game will carry them.
Out of playoff race in 5....4....3... |
the boys iare in spin control...
sems that if it was league administered he would have been suspended only if he tested positive, but... if the club had done it, then they would not have been able to release him under the bargaining agreement which is why they're not saying why... only that "it was not a difficult decision" per jerry jones... film at eleven |
Cocaine.. now there's a tough habit to kick.

No, they didn't cut him for coke because that would be against the Collective Bargining Agreement. That's a VERY bad thing.
The Cowboys wouldn't DARE cut anyone for testing positive for a controlled substance. (They're doing their job, they're reporting what they're told. Right now it currently looks like the Cowboys are in direct violation for the CBA but reporters are doing the right thing and NOT attacking the Cowboys. They're just doing what they're told.) |
What the hell is this. I don't even know what to say. All I can think of is this might be a blessing in disguise or a terrible, terrible decision. I have faith in Parcells, but how could Carter let the team down like this (whatever it is he did)?

He wasn't horrible. There were far worse quarterbacks in the league, and Quincy was showing some good progess.

CBA or not players need to learn what ZERO tolerance is. Unless they come and admit a problem BEFORE the test a second pop should be a year's suspension and rehab and a 3rd pop automatic cut and banned from the game.
If I worked at a job that tested for drugs and I popped, I would be fired on the spot. These players need to be welcomed to the real world and not babied and given passes. Tired of these million dollar pussies getting away with whatever they want. It only adds to their problems. Look at Daryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Steve Howe, and on and on and on. Keep getting passes and slaps on the wrist they have no real reason to quit and won't. You give out tough love and set examples people learn reral fast. You do the crime you do the time. Addiction is a problem, but sports teams have great resources to help, far better than anyone on the street can usually ever get. |
If I fail a company administered drug test even once I get fired. Athleats should learn that they are not exempt from the rules the rest of us have to fallow.

well, so far, here is what we know:
1. Quincy recently tested positive for an illegal substance. 2. at the least, this was Quincy's 2nd offense. 3. the Cowboys are NOT in violation... directly or indirectly... of the CBA! |
Carter was a good QB, very good out of the pocket, he does have a trend to throw some interceptions. I really don't think he was star material however. Vinny? Come on, well, at least we have experience in QB. They need to start Julius Jones at RB... I don't know what is going to happen this year, I have been a Cowboys fan for 10 years now, i have seen it all.....
|
If Jerry Jones wasn't such a jackass back when Jimmy Johnson was the coach, we'd be leading the entire league with Seven or more Super Bowl wins overall, but noooooooo.... Owner likes to play coach now and then, being on the field during game.... grumble grumble grumble. Sorry, severe hate still for Jerry Jones, at least he seems to not mess with Parcells too much.
|
Quincy could not play well under pressure, with or without him though, Cowboys are going nowhere.

Go Raiders! They're always fun to watch.
But I don't think they will get far without a running game. |

Ahem Rdr4evr...
Late Drive Pushes Cowboys Past Raiders, 21-20 The Cowboys didn't need to win the game Saturday night to show improvement over last week. But they were able to accomplish both after backup quarterback Tony Romo engineered a 17-play drive in the final five minutes, capped by his one-yard touchdown run with just six seconds to play. The score gave the Cowboys a 21-20 comeback win over the Raiders at Networks Associates Coliseum and a little bit of confidence as they head back to Dallas. What happened yo? |
