Mike is done
The result of the fight doesn't shock me, but it's hard to accept that he is finally finished. Holyfield's loss to Toney was painful but everyone knew he was spent many years ago. Tyson has found he can no longer get away with slugging at the advanced boxing age of 38, and in turn Danny Williams has made a name for himself. Don't be surprised if that K-1 contract really comes into fruition because I doubt the seven fight plan to get Tyson out of debt is possible with this loss.
|
It won't happen. This is it.
Every fight after this will simply be sold to viewers out of morbid-curiousity. I hope he's done, and figures out another way to pay his debts. His fights aren't good, they are simply sold on one word, Tyson. He's humiliating himself. Give it up, Mike. |
He was dominating until that 4th round. I don't know what happened, I guess he just lost focus.
It reminded me a lot of that recent Roy Jones fight that lasted so short. |
He got tired in the middle of the second round. All the hype about him training hard was complete bullshit. He may have been training hard for recent Mike Tyson standards, but that shit doesn't cut it.
Poor Mike. Poor, poor Mike. I almost feel a little sorry for the guy. |
He was "done" about 15 years ago. Since the Buster Douglas thing, Mike has beaten no one really and while he remained successful against the stiffs of the heavyweight ranks, when he went in against the Holyfields and the Lewis' he was exposed for what he was, a fighter on the way down. He's been propped up for years by promoters and fans and boxing councils but now he can't even beat a middle of the road English heavyweight of all things.
Personally, I feel no sorrow for him - he's shown time and again he is a lousy human being. He'll be fighting K1 soon enough and losing too. |
I'm sorry slam me all you want.
But... I see a reality series brewing. He needs money right? He is still highly marketable right? People still curious? My guess would be that Him and Cheech Marin will do a odd couple bit. They will be homeless and live out of a penn station locker. The goal. Mike Tyson has to train Cheech to fight and successfully win 3 mud wrestling bouts against women. Cheech has to train Mike Tyson how to act. Mike tyson will need to succesfully be able to do 3 soft porn movies where they actually have at least one full house in each state excluding Hawaii and Alaska at a local adult theatre. If they are both succesfull they get there debits paid off and a spot to co - host the next MVT music awards. If they both fail they have to become co-managers for Jimmy Walkers career (Good Times) If only one of them is succesfull the other has to become their bitch for 6 weeks. What ya think? Seems like the most practical solution I can think of. |
Danny Williams is a tomato can, and he took Tyson apart... its sad, the old Iron Mike would have demolished a no hoper like Williams in a minute... I think we all suspected that Tyson had a lot less left than was being marketed, but I agree its over, where can he go from here?
|
btw - I dont know too much about K1, but Tyson in a new rules brawl on the street would still be as dangerous a man as I could think of... as a boxer, he cant cut it anymore.
|
It is true that Tyson was very close to finishing Williams in the first round but not having the endurance to make it past the the third is the sign of being shot. I disagree, highthief, that he was finished after Buster Douglas. It's not as if he was an amazing fighter to begin with, but in the 90's he still had the raw ability to get the job done against the less-than-greats --now he is officially over.

I was flipping through channels and it said on Headline News that Tyson tore a knee ligament in the first round. If that is true, it would explain a lot, but it would likely mean the end of Tyson's career because he'd be 39 by the time he could fight again.
|
Yup, he tore his knee ligament very badly in the first round, so couldn't plant to throw a right hand from that point on. Regardless, this should be the end of his boxing career.
However, Tyson is still money. We'll see him pop up in the WWE in some fashion, or on some sort of "American Gladiators" type show as a commentator, I'm sure. As psychotic as he is, I still feel bad for him. |
Tyson was done when he married Robin Givens. That interview they did together with Barbra Wa Wa Walters was degrading and made him look like a pussy whipped child. After that it was the rapes and the high living and the fights vs. King and such that he just got old out of shape and I truly don't think he cares anymore, he just needs money and is trying ways to get it.
I see him going to the WWE or Jeff Jarrett's TNA-NWA. Tyson would get the publicity, fame and money he needs to survive and the wrestling promotion would get a box office name and ratings for the shows. He does have a past with McMahon and the WWE and in all honesty would be a good fit (at least till the novelty wore off then he'd have to carry his weight and I don't see him doing that.) There's nothing wrong with that though. Hell, Babe Ruth was even involved in wrestling as a referee for women's matches and midgets. |

The thing that scares me the most about him, is that it really wouldn't surprise me to come home from work and see on the news that he was involved in a murder/suicide or the like. He certainly "walks the tightrope" when it comes to his emotions. |

I think Tyson was a great fighter for about 4 years 1986-90. People blame Robin Givens, and Don King and going to jail and Cus D'Amato and they were all factors, but I do believe the biggest single factor was taking a beating from Buster Douglas. Fighters are not the same once they've been knocked out. Some come back (like Joe Louis after losing to Max Schmeling) and some don't. Tyson is no different. |
Its over, He didnt want to get up if you watch it he waited, the ref gave him the opportunity to carry on in fact he would of disqualified Williams if it had went any further, but Tyson knew he would ship more of the same. True a few year back he would of probably demolished williams but Williams did ok and followed Holyfields plan of punch often and not be bullied, If some other fighters had bullied the bully he may not of had the wins he had in his career. As for k1 if he is marketed right and put in with the right fighters may do ok but against any of the real fighters Tyson wouldnt last seconds. Choke holds and arm breaks are not what Tyson even with his biting etc are used to
|
Am I the only one that thinks Tyson would have won if he had not severely injured his knee in the first round? Everything from that point on was affected by that knee injury.
|
His talents are gone but it will be fun watching the train wreck continue as he tries to get out of deabt. I'll bet he'd give his left arm to have back just the money he spent feeding those fucking tigers. He's such a tool. Predictions.... he fights 4 more times getting beat 3 out of five. He stills has no money saved as he buys Bobo from Michael Jackson and lives out the remainingg 5 years of his life in squalor then ends up blowinghis brains out.

I eas reading espn.come arlier, they had an article about his surgery, and the doctor was suprised the tyson fought 3 more rounds let alone walked out of the ring. Said most atheletes would of had to been hauled off in a strecher. MCL tears suck, i didn't see the fight but i'm sure that would of greatly effected him during it..
|
I guess that does put a nw spin on things. I used to be one of the haters who couldn't stand Tyson. No I find myself almost feeling sorry for this maladapted and very very troubled man. He really has no one in his life that doesn't have their hand out or who doesn't kiss his ass. He has to have a very terrible quality of life... with or without millions of dollars.
|
Yea, tyson tore his meniscus in the first round, which explains a lot about the fight. Its horrible though for his career, as he is still badly in debt and cannot fight for a while. I feel bad for the guy after watching a couple of documentaries on him. He might not be the most stable person, but he has had a rough life and he's mostly a product of his environment.
