English Premier League Predictions 2004-2005.

There are literally ten's of people who follow the English Premier League and also post on the TFP.

This thread is for you.

I want your guesses who is going to win, who you think will be relegated and tell me how you think your team will fare this term.

What are your gut feelings on incoming/outbound transfers?

Tell us about it. We're all ears.

I've followed Newcastle United long enough to know that we will leak stupid goals, lose when we should have won, reach a semi-final or two and keep the leading pack looking down over their shoulders.

I quite fancy us to win a trophy this year. Any trophy, I'm not fussy. I've waited long enough. Anything. Just give me a fucking trophy to celebrate YOU FUCKING USELESS BASTARDS...*ahem* Yes. Trophy. We win. Ug.

My predictions:

Arsenal will win the league again. Chelsea second again. Man U 3rd. Same as last season.

Newly promoted Crystal Palace and Norwich City are relegation fodder to be joined by Portsmouth.

Spartak 07-21-2004 06:45 PM

I think Pompey will stay up, Yakubu will prove to be one of the surprises of the Premiership this season (interesting sidenote he was 5th in Fantasy scoring last year, behind Henry, Shearer, Saha and Forsell). I expect all of the promoted teams to get relegated, especially Palace, I wanted the Hammers in there.

If the current Arsenal team stays the way it is, I expect them to win , but should Vieira leave, Arsenal's season goes with him.

Chelsea have ridiculous depth and talent so I expect them to be runners up at least.

Toon to get 3rd. With Kluivert onboard surely it's possible.

Premiership: Arsenal. Nuff said :D

jwoody: What are your predictions for the Swedish Allsvenskan this year? :)

My crystal ball tells me that Hammarby will win the league this coming season with Djurgarden finishing as runners up.

Djurgarden will struggle to make it through the group stages of the Champions league but Hammarby will do well in the UEFA cup, I predict they will make it to the last 16 teams. Malmo will finish third.

My crystal ball is fading... it's going... it's gone.

Doos 07-22-2004 04:41 AM

Arsenal
Man U
Chelsea
Liverpool

Arse winning and the rest interchangeable, with Chelsea at an advantage if Mourinho manages to get the squad playing cohesively

Hmm...Djurgården just fired their coach so I don't see them doing very well and Malmö just moved up to lead the league :D

Being from Malmö myself all I can say is Di Blåe Di Blåe!

You got me, I just did a google search on the betting odds. Seems like I got some old info from before the season started.

Chelsea win the Premiership. Then Newcastle in second with Arsenal close behind.

Boro will be relegated.

blippo 07-27-2004 08:21 AM

I reckon:

1st - Chelsea
2nd - Manchester United
3rd - Middlesborough
4th - Arsenal
5th - Newcastle
6th - Liverpool

deselina 07-27-2004 12:52 PM

i cant wait for it to start! with kluivert, cisse, reiziger, carvalho, kezman, robben, van persie, drogba etc. all newcomers in a league where you already have so many worldclass players it's going to be one hell of a season!

1st - Arsenal (van Persie will surprise a lot of people)

2nd - Chelsea (Mourinho is a top coach, cocky tho')

3rd - Newcastle (Kluivert + Shearer = a lot of goals)

4th - Liverpool (Barros, Cisse, Owen up front, says it all basicly)

5th - Manchester United (they will strugle without Heinze and Rio in the first few games)

6th - Middlesbrough (I like their midfield and Viduka and Jimmy up front, not to mention Reiziger as their RB, Reiziger was voted in the XI of the La Liga last season)

Spartak 07-27-2004 07:29 PM

I'm quite surprised by van Persie's performances, his 4 goals in 3 friendlies is pretty impressive. Especially when you consider his goals are piledrivers from the left wing.

I have a feeling he will displace Pires as a starter in a couple of seasons.

jwoody 07-28-2004 12:53 AM

Middlesbrough? You'd think they would've learned some lessons from the Alan Boksic debacle.

Viduka and Hasselbaink seems like a formidable force on paper but, as the great man himself once said, "football isn't played on paper."

LOL...think Greece anyone? :D

Spartak 07-28-2004 02:12 AM

Wha ?

Oh I erased the travesty that was Euro 2004 from my memory.

Carry on :)

deselina 07-28-2004 03:36 AM

Middlesbrough's main problem last year was their scoring ability, with Hasselbaink and Viduka they now have 2 proven EPL goalscorers. Things are only going to look better for them, especially with creative midfielders like Zenden, Mendieta & Juninho feeding the two strikers.

clifclav 07-28-2004 04:34 AM

Big Year for the Blues!!!!

City will end up the year in the upper half of the table. As for the rest prob Arsenal, Newcastle, Man U. & Chelsea in whatever order they've spent the most.

castex 07-28-2004 05:20 AM

I can't believe Keegan's still there! Going down, I'm afraid...

Spartak 07-28-2004 07:48 PM

In a Les Ferdinand interview I read a while back, this is what he said about Keegan: "Tactically... he had no tactics. He'd say to us: Yean they might score two, but you're gonna get three!"

Porkchop 08-02-2004 06:31 AM

I think either of the North East teams, Newcastle or Boro will win a trophy as both made good buys. I cant see the title yet. Although would like Newcastle to win something as years of nothing is getting a bit much what with the cash spent. Yet still feel it will be almost but not quite, hope im wrong though.

Sphinkx 08-03-2004 04:27 AM

Chelsea bought a lot of new players, but will they play as a team? Prob'ly not... They'll get far but i think they'll fail just before the finish line  Except when the coach can make them work as a team, but this will be hard for his first year there I guess.

So Arsenal first, Chelsea 2nd. Newcastle, Man U & Liverpool will have a close battle for the 3rd position. But Newcastle will win the battle prob'ly...

akechi 08-11-2004 03:45 AM

Chelsea supporter here ~ so hope Chelsea will win it! Also reckon Middlesborough will be in top 3 with JFH and Viduka

I'd like to change some of my season predictions now:

Because Vieira is staying, Arsenal are now going to chase the Treble, and possibly get a double at least.

Because Owen is leaving Liverpool and Cisse turns out to be a bust, the Liverpool board is going to have to grovel to Diouf and partner him with Baros to have even a fighting chance of scoring goals.

Steady on there matey, I'd expect talk like that from a Manchester United fan - and we all know what they are.

If we're changing our predictions, I'm going to tip my team - The Toon - for second in the league. It may take a few games before the real Newcastle United are fully fit, but when we are I reckon we've got a team that could challenge anyone.

Spartak 08-13-2004 02:27 PM

The double is seriously doable, if not for a single Man U goal, it would have been one for the gunners.

Honestly, the Premierleague doesn't have many true contenders (Arsenal, Man U, Chelski, Newcaste, Liverpool.. that's about it), sure you have the occacional upset in the FA cup, but the way it has run over the last few seasons, the good teams eliminate each other and end up playing lower division teams in the previous rounds.

Of course I'd be happy with any silverware, but the current Arsenal team is the one of the best ones they've ever had.

almostaugust 08-13-2004 11:20 PM

I reckon Arsenal will triumph. Im hoping that Palace will also stay up. I have a good mate who was born with 4 knee caps and is a mad Palace supporter. A couple of years ago he had two removed. They now live in a jar in the fridge and are called 'Crystal' and 'Palace'. Despite being born like this he was a gun player and actually had trials with Palace and Notts County a couple of years ago.

castex 08-14-2004 02:10 AM

9. Everton 1 - 2 Arsenal

10. Chelsea 2 - 2 Man Utd

akechi 08-14-2004 02:49 AM

1. Tottenham 0 - 2 Liverpool

2. Norwich 1 - 2Crystal Palace

jwoody 08-16-2004 01:09 AM

Go me. I win a Highbury season ticket and weekly return flights to-from Australia with 5 star accomodation in The Ritz Hotel.

Unfortunately there is no prize this week.

_________

Not even Jimmy Hasselbaink's hand of god can dampen my enthusiasm for the coming season.

If we'd had two proper centre backs on the field, I don't think either of the Smoggies' goals would've gone in.

castex 08-16-2004 03:28 AM

We had to let you win, what with it being the first week of your new game, and everything:D

akechi 08-16-2004 05:17 AM

Go the BLUES! Hope Wenger watched that game ~ cos we gonna do the same to them

Spartak 08-16-2004 02:14 PM

What ? Play poorly and only get one goal ? ;)

I swear I laughed my ass off when I saw United's starting lineup, I couldn't believe the junk they had to field. Chelsea should have thrashed them.

akechi 08-17-2004 03:19 AM

Those Mourino defensive tactics worked quite well in the 2nd half ~ and mind u Chelsea was without Duff and Robben ~ as for Mourino ~ cocky guy ~ like his attitude
