well we are up to 23 people that are wrong in the poll.......... all you Lakers in 4 and 5 are out...... I would like to be wrong too.... I said Pistons in 6 but I am hoping for 5 now....... GO PISTONS!!!

Damnyankee 06-11-2004 04:44 AM

Yep, that was an awesome game, the ABC guys are killing me though! Can someone tell them these games are being broadcasted throughout the whole country. Not just in LA. And that Tim dude at halftime, just because you don't like tough "d" doesn't mean we don't. What do you want us to do, let them just make their shots so your happier! UHhhhhhhhhhhhh!

choskins 06-11-2004 05:11 AM

Um, can I change my vote?

JoeyB 06-11-2004 07:27 AM

What do the conspiracy theorists think of the series?

For a long time, the consensus has been that the NBA and the refs have a conspiracy to get the Lakers another championship.....

Conspiracy theorists, please step up to the microphone and restate your case.

Nimbletoe 06-11-2004 09:33 AM

I'd also like to change my vote from pistons in 7 to pistons in 5 :D

As much as you hate LA, they are the most popular franchise in the world. The Detroit way of playing the game is new and thus the casual basketball fan may not be cool with the slow, boring bace of the game. I suppose if you're a Detroit fan, you have grown to love this kind of basketball, but I'm rolling around on the floor in agony. Pleeeaaaaase.. someone hit an outside shot. Pleeeeeaaaase... someone run a fast break. Pleeeeeeaaaase... don't call another fucking foul.

Damnyankee 06-11-2004 11:54 AM

What would you suggest? Have our guys stop husseling, stop putting hands in faces and contesting every shot? That game last night was far from slow, unless you're talking about the Laker players standing around. I think the "west" isn't used to players working their collective asses off every time up and down the floor!

perripken 06-11-2004 12:02 PM

Man... I'm dying, they (Lakers) didn't even show last night!

JoeyB 06-11-2004 12:20 PM

This is old school Hoosiers stuff.

Jimmy Chitwood from outside-----GOOD!

Jesus Malverde 06-11-2004 01:15 PM

I love to see defense in every sport except boxing.

These Finals have been damn good, even game 2 which the bastards won. I don't think the Lakers are done just yet, but thats just because I'm hoping my Pistons in 7 prediction comes true. :)

grumpyolddude 06-11-2004 01:54 PM

Phil Jackson played the "ref" card today. What took him so long? He used it to great effect in the late 80's- early 90's when he was trying to get the Bulls over the hump against the Pistons. Now he's begging for some "Jordan Rules" for his lazy ass Lakers.

Phil! Effort gets rewarded. Motivate your TEAM!

Totally agree 100%. Thats what a coach is for, and thats why Jackson gets the big bucks. He isn't the winningest coach in the NBA postseason for nothing. Theyre already nailing sheed to the cross for looking crosseyed at them, what else do they need? These dead slugs need a huge shot of motivation if theyre to get out of Detroit alive.

And Rip Hamilton for MVP so far, by far. This mofo is playing like a man possessed. Looks like he picked up a few things playing with MJ in Washington. Rock solid money in the bank. Its a beautiful thing.

powerclown 06-11-2004 04:20 PM

mattgical 06-11-2004 09:29 PM

The Glove should now be known as the Oven Mitten.

Anyone he guards will become hot, i.e. Tony parker, Injured Sam Cassell and now Chauncey Billups.

Rdr4evr 06-11-2004 09:49 PM

The Hollywood Fakers are done for. The Pistons should be up 3-0 if it werent for that lucky shot. Pistons will finish them off soon.

same here :p

......if the LA bench stays dead for the rest of the series that is, which I find a bit unlikely and think that LA will/might win at least one more game .

You know i was just thinknig that in teh last game.

Here you have a team of pealep tha play as a team. they pass the ball work hard and are not playing to be on the highlight reel.

then you have the lakers the lagerest buch of show boaters you will ever see.

I really have, it's amazing to see how well we're shutting down the outside. Typically teams have had more trouble from the baseline or shorter jump shots, but LA has a different style I suppose. Sheed opened our game up so well and he hasn't even had a chance to get on a roll in this series. LA certainly knows how to perform damage control, cutting down our offensive threats. The unknown depth of Detroit is definitely playing to our advantage right now. True team basketball is what Detroit is all about.

choskins 06-13-2004 01:00 PM

Man, I can't wait until tonight. All except for hearing "Let's get it started" 400 times.

SonnyBono 06-13-2004 01:51 PM

I agree, one can only take so much Black Eyed Peas, I've noticed "Let's Get Retarded" hasn't been playing as much on the radio.

This makes me laugh.

I would have voted Lakers By 6, but I never checked out this topic 'til now. I hope the Lakers lose, simply because Malone and Payton sold out, in my book. I don't care much for the Pistons, but they're exciting the hell out of me right now by leading on Lakers.

Plan9Senior 06-13-2004 06:28 PM

We need to throw some Piston jerseys on the refs :p

Speed_Gibson 06-13-2004 08:07 PM

*funeral dirge starts playing quietly in background for the Lakers*

looks like I am probably going to be wrong on my guess, oh well Pistons in 5 or 6 works too.

I think Billups has a slight MVP edge, as he's been more consistent. He's been the only player out there putting up 20 pts a game. Hamilton is a better player, but he hasn't really been playing at his best. Billups has really gone above and beyond.

LA won't win 3 straight games, therefore game, set, and match to the Pistons. It's about time an east coast team took the title back.

As for the game being slow, I for one don't require a 48 minute highlight reel to enjoy the game. It's a basketball game, not a slam dunk contest. It's good that offense and defense are more in balance, and are more intertwined. The game is more focused on team effort, and that's a good thing.

I have been watching Rip since he was drafted by Washington, and he is definitely playing the best basketball of his career. I don't see how you would think otherwise.

However, I do agree that Billups has the slight edge in the MVP voting, but I just wanted to back up Rip.

Overall, the Pistons are playing great, but I would not be surprised if L.A. did win the next three. I don't expect it and would be devestated, but I am used to it:

Game 7, down 15 in 4th against Portland
Ball is tapped out, Horry for three, LA beats Sac
.7 seconds left, Fisher baseline jumper
thats just the playoffs

Regular season:
How about their huge comeback against Dallas last year in the 4th, or Bryant's heroics against Portland this year.

I aint trying to jinx Detroit, just setting myself up for the worst ;)

Although Rip has been averaging more ppg in this series, Billups has been great as well, and rock steady at the free throw line. But I gotta stick with Rip for MVP, just a feeling. I really like what he's been doing in the 4th quarters of this series, which is knocking down big shots. Obviously, tonight Sheed blew the fcuk up and was the x factor.

Still, I don't understand why Kobe didn't get more shots or Shaq more passes. Just doesn't make sense...

Halx 06-13-2004 09:35 PM

almost twice as many fouls.. i think it's evident that this series is being given to detroit on a silver platter.. by the league

dragon2fire 06-13-2004 09:39 PM

*do you hear that* its quiet

boy its amazing how there team losing shuts up lakers fans.

go pistons

H12 06-13-2004 09:47 PM

What was the score? I missed the game tonight.

Scipio 06-13-2004 09:52 PM

88-80, Detroit over LA.

only followed this last game on the espn.com flash thingy, but I watched game three and LA definitely was too passive on atacking the rim and drawing fouls.

Please. PLEAAAASE. LA lost it out there. The refs were missing a lot of calls, like shaq going over the hoop and putting in a SHOT from payton.

Jadedfox 06-14-2004 12:10 AM

Yeah seriously. Detroit isn't being handed shit. They are just waaaaay better than anyone thought and they are proving it against the Lakers. They proved against Indy and NJ before that.

It's a beautiful thing!

Honestly that's the case. Generic examples from today's game:

Rip comes down the lane, gets the lay-in up there, draws a little touch and gets a free throw to shoot.

Kobe attempts to get off a shot from the top of the key with three Pistons hacking at his arms, misses, falls face first on the floor, play on.

With all the Pistons clutch n grab and no calls to show for it, I swear I was watching the Calgary Flames in the Stanely Cup finals... again!

EDIT: This is not from a Laker fan viewpoint, just from a neutral that wants one of his childhood sporting idols (Da Mailman) get a ring.

Wrong. Hustle gets rewarded. David Stern was asked in an interview who he would like to see in the Finals and he said Lakers vs. Lakers. The Lakers are a huge ratings draw for the league so Stern drools when they get to the finals.
The Pistons look more athletic, hungrier, and more cohesive as a team. They are taking the ball to the hoop and drawing contact and being rewarded the fouls thusly.

If 3 guys are on him why the Hell won't he give the ball to someone that isn't covered???? OH, I KNOW..... Like all the Lakers he is trying to make ESPN's shot of the day. The Lakers have the most dominate offensive threat in the League (not you Kobe) get the ball to Shaq and you'll have some kind of chance.

Damnyankee 06-14-2004 04:54 AM

Yea, I watched the game and I didn't see any bad fouls. I may be wrong but it seems our guys are working their asses off, especially on the boards. As far as Shaq, if he catches it in the low post, let him score, whats the point in fouling the dude. A lot of Lakers have given up on the foul thing and admitting Detroit is playing better than them, when will the Laker fans start to admit this??????????????????????????????????????????????
