Panthers

Scipio 01-18-2004 10:24 PM

New England should win it. Their coach is a genius, and they're solid on all sides of the football. Brady > Delhomme.

djtestudo 01-18-2004 11:24 PM

Their defenses are probably just about equal, so that doesn't work.

Brady may be better then Delhomme, but Carolina has a great rushing attack, and can pass the ball when needed. New England can't run the ball against a anything better then an average line, and Carolina has probably the best pass-rushing line in football to go with an underrated secondary, which stopped the Rams and the Eagles for most of the playoffs.

Now, Belicheck will have something to say about all this, and could easily shut down Delhomme and Davis/Foster. The Patriots' receivers aren't the best, but have an explosiveness that can overwhelm an unprepared team, or even a well-prepared one.

Also, the last four years now at least one road team won a conference championship game. In the past three, that team won the Super Bowl (Baltimore, New England, Tampa Bay).

I predict Panthers 23, Patriots 17, but it could definatly go either way.

ebeye 01-19-2004 01:50 AM

I'd love to say the Panthers, but I just can't go against the Pats this year. I mean, jeez, they just keep finding ways to win. They combine a rock solid defense with an opportunistic offense. Add in some awesome coaching and you have your next Super Bowl champions.

Halx 01-19-2004 03:15 AM

Patriots are on a roll! Gotta go with them 'cause that would suck for such a long win streak to end at the big game.

jay-g 01-19-2004 03:18 AM

The Patriots have been and experienced the Super Bowl. Their D is very stingy and good. The reason the Patriots are good is because of their defense. Then you have Troy Brown, Tom Brady and Antwane Smith. Not the best in the leauge but get the job done. Actually Troy Brown is pretty sick and you cant forget about Adam Vinitereri(he's money). Anyways, big Patriots fan. Since the days of Bill Parcells running the team. Pats by ten or more.....

dylanmarsh 01-19-2004 05:39 AM

When a team beats the co-MVP's twice in the same season, is undefeated at home, and is riding a 14 game winning streak that dates back to the final week of the basebal season, it seems pretty obivous who will win the Super Bowl. Ah, but if it were only that easy.

I don't expect the Pats to get big heads about themselves, but I do think the SB is gonna be a close affair with the Pats winning by 10 pts or less.

I said it once and I'll say it again: Tom Brady is turning into the modern day equivillant of Joe Montana. An average quarterback who is guided by a brilliant coach and beats every "great" quarterback in the league time and time again. Compare Joe's and Tom's stats through the first three years of their careers -- they're almost identical.

Pats 21
Panthers 12

GakFace 01-19-2004 06:36 AM

Panthers cause I dont like the Pats. :)

blkdmnd 01-19-2004 06:53 AM

Lots of similarities in these two teams. Both defenses dominated yesterday. Both have the advantage of terrific coaches. Few or no mistakes made by either squad. The inclination is to lean toward the Pats because Brady is better than Delhomme.

But, is he really? I think he has just been in the limelight more. I think Delhomme can definitely play with him. Panthers have been the underdogs all year long and look how far they have come.

GO PANTHERS!

Hanxter 01-19-2004 08:03 AM

gonna be a good one!!! pats lost woody for the year and brewsky may be out as well with a knee - gotta give the pats 7 but that may be high since both teams score low - total "D" is the key

forseti-6 01-19-2004 08:17 AM

Pats 35-17

I'm surprised the Panthers have made it this far. I wouldn't completely count them out yet though. They did beat some good teams to get this far. The Patriots have too good a defense though, and also Super Bowl experience. The bottom line is Tom Brady though. He'll lead them to another super bowl victory.

smarm 01-19-2004 08:36 AM

As a Panthers fan, I'd be more worried if the Panthers were favorites... I don't know if they have been in that position since the first half of the season! I think they could win it, but the Pats are just so damn consistant. Pats 23-20.

(but I hope not!)

Fantasma 01-19-2004 08:37 AM

It was 10-30-04 when Fantasma, now named Nostradamus, predicted that Patriots win SB over Carolina.

I am picking the Patriots but it would not be a shock if the Panthers pulled off another upset

The_wall 01-19-2004 09:09 AM

GO PATRIOTS!!

I've been a big Pats fan for years now, and if they complete this season with another super bowl victory I'll have a joygasm.

RAMONES!!! 01-19-2004 10:56 AM

panthers, look at who they beat and look at who picked them before, they are silent killers

jonb2serment 01-19-2004 12:43 PM

Its going to be a great game, and I will be pulling for the Carolina Panthers!

SAM821 01-19-2004 02:06 PM

Carolina with the upset... i say the score is going to be 13-7 carolina wins!

fearofmear 01-19-2004 03:34 PM

Before the season started, I bagged on the Panthers. No reason to stop now. I'll take the Pats.

ToiletDuck 01-19-2004 04:47 PM

I belive this game will ride on the leg of Vinitereri. Pats by 3

Would be cool to see the pats play in thier throwback uni's.

G_Whiz 01-19-2004 06:27 PM

Let's see now. The Pats have experience in the big game, they have the latest "genius" coach, they have a winning streak that's be unequalled since 1972.

For all of those reasons, it will be the Panthers who win. There is just too much lined up to make the Pats the favorites. The Panthers are where the Pats were 2 years ago. The Panthers have been the unappreciated, underdog all season. I think it will be a close game, but the Panthers have a nasty habit of winning those.

Pick the Panthers and surprise your friends. :D

present_future 01-19-2004 08:16 PM

I'm gonna have to go with the Patriots by a small margin. It would be a blowout if they found a way to make it snow in Houston, and have the temperature a balmy 15 degrees.

thephuse 01-19-2004 10:04 PM

man, I want the Panthers to win, I voted Pats, but i want the panthers to win.. :D ... Tom Brady just doesnt deserve to win 2 superbowl rings.. ...

yes I'm a Jet Fan :D

cchris 01-19-2004 10:31 PM

With a limited coverage of NFL down here it's difficult to really follow the game.(Got Foxtell three weeks ago so it's sweet now).
What a great final series it's been though with plenty of O/T games.

Panthers are the underdogs so thats my pick.

username 01-20-2004 07:37 AM

I'll root for the underdogs, just cause. So Panthers will win, but in a very close game. Just like all of their other playoff wins.

fishboy_250 01-20-2004 08:28 AM

Going to be a close game... as much as I despise him, Tom Brady is a very good QB. The guy consistently completes 5 or 6 7 to 10 yard passes each drive. (The offensive line gets a lot of credit for this, though.) From a D standpoint, no question, it's New England by far, although Carolina's secondary's kind of nice. A lot of people have been saying w/ out Davis @ 100%, Carolina is doomed, but where did Foster come from, anyone else see him break five tackles for the big TD @ the Linc?...I'm sooo glad the birds lost.... I could ramble on for days about this game, my heart's w/ Carolina because you have to have respect for what they've done, but in the end, I pick the Pats.

While I credit the horrendous tackling for that score, you gotta give him props for that run. Keeping his momentum with that many guys trying to drag him down was amazing.

Anyways, I'm all for the Panthers. I despise the Patriots (minus their coach) so I suppose I'm biased. ;) Either way, I hope they expose Brady for the tool he is. A little kid could throw on some of the defenses he's been playing against, especially with the way his offensive line has been playing.

UTRA 01-21-2004 03:15 PM

It should be a good Super Bowl, but the Patriots win it in a close one.

CandleInTheDark 01-21-2004 03:29 PM

Pats in overtime.

Ace_O_Spades 01-21-2004 04:09 PM

New England

their defense crushes people, especially their secondary

its going to be a slaughterhouse whenever carolina has the ball

sailor 01-21-2004 04:18 PM

GO PANTHERS!!!

Carry on... ;)

i also can see that happening.

i also expect the pats to win, but i would not count out the panthers, they seem to be having a cinderella playoffs.

jeremylafave 01-23-2004 01:11 AM

im with the panthers...i mean brady is starting to doubt himself in this game coming up and when a qb has a little doubt about himself and he is going to say it on tv. then that team has some issues coming their way...so im going to have to go with the panthers for now...sorry patriot fans! jeremy

bundy 01-23-2004 07:35 AM

i'm with Carolina.

20-13 scoreline. (maybe)

AlphaFox830 01-23-2004 10:45 AM

i'll take the pats.

Astrocloud 01-23-2004 12:08 PM

I say pats by 7

edmos1 01-23-2004 12:44 PM

Panthers win close games, and their D keeps them in games. However, I think the Pats are recently beating teams. The last odds I saw were Pats minus 6 1/2, I like the Pats right now since I do not think Panthers can keep up

Strange Famous 01-23-2004 01:27 PM

Tough call, but I think the Panthers can do it. The Pats can shut down the pass, but I dont know if they can stop the run against Carolina. It could go either way though.

Parker 01-23-2004 04:12 PM

I hope the Panthers win. There is a annoying Patriots Fan at my work who thinks that the Patriots walk on water. For example, he told me that the Patriots were nuts to get rid of Lawyer Milloy, but now after they made it to the Superbowl, that Lawyer Milloy is just an average player. He really pisses me off. Go Panthers.

Ace_O_Spades 01-23-2004 04:25 PM

Everyone's cheering for the panthers because they're the underdog, but this is not even going to be a contest

The Patriots are going to make the Panthers sorry that they made it to the big show, and they will be feeling it for weeks afterwards.

I havent seen a harder hitting defense than the Patriots in my lifetime.

AL9045 01-23-2004 08:49 PM

Panthers will win. I hope. :D.

santafe5000 01-23-2004 08:56 PM

I'll have to go with NE by 7.

silverback 01-23-2004 10:15 PM

The Patriots should win it but the Panthers have been surprising people all year. I think the Panthers will surprise everyone one more time.

Yes, a lot of us are. I know I am (Im also from Charlotte, so... :D). Im not sure about the rest of your post though. That team wants it, more I think that anyone else out there. To come from years of *horrible* teams, scandals, and everything else they have had thrown at them, to take a rag-tag group of guys and go this far, I think they can do it. We shall see, though. Either way, its great that they made it this far.

NoseyJoe 01-24-2004 08:24 PM

I like the Pats in this one, in a very low scoring affair.

wrongfullyaccuzd 01-25-2004 01:37 PM

Did anyone see that thing on Sportscenter a few days ago comparing this year's Panthers to the 2001 Patriots and this year's Patriots to the 2001 Rams? It was a little eerie. Anyway, it pointed to a Panther victory. I hate the Patriots, so i'm willing to believe it. Go Panthers.

H12 01-25-2004 02:02 PM

GO PANTHERS!!! If for no other reason than the fact that I haven't like any team since the Titans got beaten (by the Patriots, too...damn them), I gotta root for Carolina here.

In all likelyhood though, it would surprise me none if the Patriots took over in this game.

Omar12 01-26-2004 02:20 AM

this is going to be a good one.
I feel that the Patriots may win but Panthers will continue to give surprises. I guess this is a must see.

absorbentishe 01-26-2004 06:24 AM

I'm putting 50 on the winner :)

wipeout 01-26-2004 12:18 PM

final score will be
pats: 35
panthers: 26

and that is final

AL9045 01-31-2004 02:02 PM

I feel I need to bump this, since the game is tomorrow. :D.

woody69 01-31-2004 08:00 PM

I think the panthers will win this one unless they let the pats get 14+ points ahead early. If they can keep the pats from making big passing plays they will wear them out. Brady will also take a beating like he hasn't seen. Everyone talks about how good the Pats D is, but I think the Panthers are better.

wordssmith22 01-31-2004 08:03 PM

new england and it's gonna be a low scoring game. probably low ratings too, though that's just my hunch

CandleInTheDark 02-01-2004 09:24 AM

Today's the big game.

It's going to be an amazing game either way.

AL9045 02-01-2004 04:38 PM

Hoho, 2 missed kicks. Thank you, Adam.

slimshaydee 02-01-2004 05:48 PM

did anyone see janet jackson's tit pop out? eww

AL9045 02-01-2004 07:30 PM

32-29 Patriots.

That kickoff out of bounds killed the Panthers.

alec 02-01-2004 07:32 PM

yah your right, that kick off was horrible, oh well

ps why didnt they lateral it? that guy just stood there and got tackled -- not nearly as entertaining as numerous laterals

They didn't have the right formation?

I would've taken a knee, and just hail married it, I think you have better odds with a hail mary.

Eiresol 02-01-2004 07:35 PM

What a game.
Gutted for Carolina though, I thought they were the better side in the second half.

No, a Hail Mary will only get you maybe 60 yards. You have to get the pass into the end zone for that to work; otherwise, the defence will be there to tackle you if you catch it. Rod Smart is supposed to be a hotshot kickoff returner, that truly was their best option. Too bad Smart couldn't put anything together all night.

Bigt6909 02-04-2004 04:30 PM

I hope the pats keep their winning streak going all through next season
