I'd put my money on Eli Manning. He's projected to go pretty early in the draft.

Funny you should say "bogus award." There was a great article in Slate this week called "The Lunacy of the Heisman." You could read it here: http://slate.msn.com/id/2092441/

Gregg Easterbrook argued similarly in TMQ this week on NFL.com

Truth is, the thing is a joke. After the Sugar Bowl, we won't hear from Jason White ever again.

I agree, jason white will be the next Danny Weurful or whatever and suck in the pro's nuff said

SACKINGSFAN 12-14-2003 03:24 PM

i would like to know why Jason white can win it this year but in 2001 they didn't give it to David carr

Gentlemen: Give a little credit where credit is due. Jason has had one of the best seasons of any QB in NCAA history. Yes he did it with great talent around him, but he made the throws and got them in the right plays and genarally did the job in outstanding fashion. Is he the MVP? probably. Is he the most outstanding player debatable for sure. Jason likely won't be the guy making huge bucks on Sunday at least anytime soon. Eli will but like so many others he will struggle early. Here's my point, living in Denver I watched the Bronco vs the Browns on the tube. There on the Cleveland sideline was Nate Hybl and Kelly Holcomb anyone ever heard of these guys? For reference Nate was Jason's replacement after the knee blew last year. Jason is a far better QB. He will make a roster and hold a clipboard for someone assuming he doesn't go for a medical redshirt. He might even play down the road. For what it is worth he is a great story and a heck of a good college football player, who played about as good aseason as anyone has in a number of years.

BigGov 12-14-2003 08:38 PM

He is not even close to the most outstanding player.

KSU showed it. White finally started to get hit, and he fell apart. It was blatantly visible as many deep throws were off by 10 feet or more, and White wasn't even touched.

Fitzgerald put up insane numbers against double and triple teams all year because Pitt doesn't have any other weapons.

Ole Miss is Baylor without Eli.

And Jason had a great season because he put up insane numbers against creampuff teams when OU should have been at least trying to run.

The Heisman award blows. it's as if there are no other positions thst matter besides RB and QB.

Jimmy4 ,

Better get your facts straight. The creampuffs got a pretty solid dose of the backups. The yards and TDs would have been much higher if he hadn't been on the bench for about 2 and a half games. The strength of schedule numbers that got them in the Sugar Bowl would beg to differ about the "Creampuffs" how about those Horns, Cowboys, Tigers, Red Raiders, Mean Green, Bruins all bowl teams. He did have a bad game against KSU but he was over 50% and 297 yards with a ton, I repeat a ton of dropped balls. You can't pin the loss on JW alone it was a TOTAL TEAM (lack of) effort.

dragon2fire 12-18-2003 08:42 PM

how could you not pick eli over white

eli will be drafted early and for good reason

just look at his brother for crying out loud

thephuse 12-18-2003 09:09 PM

Lets give White some credit... other than the KSU game, he showed that he was indeed, one of the top QB's in college football.
It is widely known that there are successful college QB's and successful Pro QB's
Everyone, including Jason White himself knows that he will never become an NFL QB, prolly wont even go in the first 5 rounds...,
but he was this year's best college QB

(I still agree Heisman has lost a lot of its splendor with all these new awards and all...)

aswo 12-18-2003 10:57 PM

The heisman award is like the college natl champ, bogus always has and always will be bogus.
