Dallas Cowboys: RB of future?
I like the announcement that Jerry Jones made a couple of days ago, that Quincy Carter is the QB next year. However, I want to know what the situation is at Running Back. Am I the only one who thinks Troy Hambrick is a fat worthless back who can't even break tackles and lacks speed? Who do you cowboys fans think they should take in the draft?
|
Hambrick is not the speed guy, but a power rusher. He's a slow mofo all right and I havent seen too much power out of him.
Cason is out for the year, so it's gonna be Hambrick/Ritchie Anderson for the rest of the year. As for the draft, I havent seen anybody that amazing yet. There is a lot of hype about perry, but I'm not a believer. Darren sproles would be a good fit for the team, even though parcells is not a big fan of the small guys. but then again, i'm biased for k-state ;). Dillon/Staley might come to dallas. |
Actually they have Hambrick out of position, it has been stated that he will be moved to fullback next year because he is an excellent blocker.
As a Philadelphia Eagles fan I say you can have Staley, he is a solid runner/receiver but not a feature back. And please stay away from Dillon, I would be scared of Dallas if he goes there. |
Dillon has not been doing that good as of late. It's somewhat troubling because now he is opposite a very good passing game and cannot run for his big yardage.
Staley is not reliable enough to be a feature back. I also question his desire, seeing as though he didn't come back in shape to Eagles training camp. Yes, he held out, but he could have gotten in shape, it has been the only thing holding him back. When I read this, the answer popped into my head immediately and Dude stole it, Darren Sproles. He's fast as in Barry Sanders fast, can take a lot of punishment, can find the holes, and is so small he can fit through more holes than anyone else can. While Parcells doesn't usually like small backs, he has used them a lot throughout his career (Curtis Martin, David Meggett, etc.) |
Dillon would be perfect for the Cowboys, at least personality-wise :D.
But seriously folks, they need a quality back. Could go for someone early in the draft, or take a risk on a late-round guy (as long as it isn't Bruce Perry, he needs to go to a real team ;)). Is there any other position they have a desperate need, though? |
Trade with buffalo to pick up either Travis Henry or Willis McGahee.... Henry may be available if McGahee shows his stuff
|
Hambrick has potential...I think he has been solid.
Good call on Jones' part with sticking with Carter...he definetly has potential. Now if only we can mop out the rest of the season and make the playoffs. |
Who cares about Jerry Jones endorsing Carter? Parcells will surely look to upgrade the QB position next season. Quincy Carter is not untouchable and Jones will defer to the Big tuna.
|
There are a lot of good running backs that will be available (or hopefully available) in the upcoming draft.
My first choice would be Kevin Jones from VA Tech. He has Parcell's Guy written all over him. Unfortunately, I don't see him lasting long and Dallas will be picking in the low 20s. |
It wouldn't bother me if they scrapped the entire backfield and started over from scratch. I think they could probably come up with a more consistant offense if they picked them by lottery, or by sign of the Zodiac, or by folding up a list of players and sticking a pin through the paper and taking those the pin hits!
|
What about Carnell "Cadillac" Williams? When is the last day college prospects have to declare for the draft? He might be around long enough for the Boys to nab him.
|
I'd love to see Cadillac with a star on his helmet. This is going to be a good year for running backs, so a good one is to be had throughout the first round.

I think that Kevin Jones would be the best fit, but he probably is not goin to be around that late. I don't think darren sproles is big enough to be a feature back so my vote goes to either Carnell Williams or even possibly Chris Perry, or maybe a recently declared eligible Muarics clarett

hambrick looks like he can get it done. almost 200 yards for today.

Hambrick might be OK if there was someone else in the backfield that was a threat, and the Boyz had a quarterback. I've stuck with this team from day one and ... I think even Dandy Don could do a better job at QB, even today!!!
|
I think that Parcells can develop Hambrick into a good quality RB, just give him some time, it'll work out.
|
well... Hambrick DID have like... 180 yrds or something.. not too shabby if you ask me...
|
Hambrick definately has more yardage when Carter is having a better passing game. I'd like to see them work Anderson in more on first down.
|
The two definitely go together - the threat of a pass opens up the running game - and if you don't have a running game you won't get the time to pass.
|
Also, Anderson isn't a true blocking fullback. If you noticed, most of Hambrick's big runs came when Jamar Martin was in at fullback. Martin can open some holes past the linemen that Anderson cannot.
|
For those mentioning Clarrett, please just say no! I would hate to have this punk on the Cowboys' roster. While he does have talent, I really don't think he is the next great thing. He is injury-prone, and with his attitude, I see him having a career along the lines of Lawrence Phillips...
|
A thought occurred to me. How about Dominic Rhodes. He's the backup to Edgarin James for Indianapolis. He had some great moments in the AFC championship game. He's super fast, young, and he did a great job in 2001 as a backup for James, ruching for over 1,000 yards in an incomplete season. He got hurt in 2002, and James was back this year, so his stats don't look great. He's from Texas, and did not really have a college career. That's why no one has heard of him. I think he might just be the guy they need, and they could get him for relatively cheap.
What do ya'll think? |
I think the 'boys will have a shot at either Kevin Jones or Steven Jackson. So they should focus on that... They'll land one of the two for sure, even if they need to trade up..
|
Hmm....Dominic Rhodes, eh? That sounds good to me. Anything will be a welcome change from doughboy Troy. Rhodes had a hell of a year in 2001, I hope that wasn't a fluke.
